Results Enabled successful CT fishingreturning well to production aftertwo-year shut-in

    Cleaned debris from producing interval

Facilitated decision making byproviding real-time data and imagesto onshore staff

Challenges Well located on offshore Norwegiancontinental shelf

High-production well shut in for twoyears because of lost fish across theperforated interval

    Perform operation as perNORSOK requirements

Kill well, recover fish, and clean outdebris in one run

Baker Hughes solution Implemented TeleCoil intelligent

coiled tubing services with cameraand fishing tools

Followed up with Tornado cleanouttool with motor and mill

Provided real-time camera servicesand differential pressure, temperature, and depth correlations

    Transmitted live data to customer

operation center and theBaker Hughes BEACON Center fordata analysis and operational support

A high-producing oil well on the offshore

Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) had been

shut in for two years because deposits and

sand in the wellbore had caused a failed

intervention and temporary abandonment of the

well. Seventy-two ft (22 m) of the tool string,

consisting of a production logging tool (PLT) a

dual e-line tractor, and approximately 1,148 ft

(350 m) of seven conductor cable, was left in

    the well.

The length of the fish and lubricator height

precluded live well operations or any

hydrocarbon returns to surface. After multiple

attempts to retrieve the string had failed, the

operator asked Baker Hughes for a solution

that would return the well to production.

    Baker Hughes recommended the TeleCoil

    intelligent coiled tubing (CT) services.

TeleCoil services provide an advanced andreliable approach to complex offshore

    interventions by acquiring accurate downhole

    informationdepth correlation as well as

    pressure and temperature measurementsthat

    eliminate the guesswork and assumptions

associated with traditional CT operations. In

addition, a video camera can be attached to

a standard TeleCoil BHA. The camera captures

    real-time, high-definition images of downhole

conditions to facilitate planning and operations.

The TeleCoil service included a camera and

    normal fishing tools run on a 2 3/8-in. (60-mm)

CT string. Debris was removed and a clear

image was established for further evaluation. This prevented time-consuming and expensive

well fluid displacement. The quality of the image

was controlled from the surface and provided a

    greater insight into downhole conditions.

Live downhole data and video was transmitted

to both the operators onshore operation center

and the Baker Hughes BEACONCenter for

analysis and operational planning. The data and

images were used to facilitate decision making

in an extensive and meticulous planning sessionthat refined the fishing strategy.

Using the strategy, the TeleCoil service assisted

in retrieving the entire BHA fish in one run after

    the cable was out.

Baker Hughes then used the Tornadocleanout

tool with motor and mill to return the treated

well to its previous production rate. Returning

this well to production also helped the field to

achieve its target of greater production efficiency.

Based on a significant collaborative effort

between Baker Hughes and the operators staff,

the operation was completed without any HSE

incidents. Baker Hughes provided a technically

and commercially suitable solution to meet the

    operators needs.
