GREENUP COUNTY FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES NEWSLETTER
We had a great time at the NE Area Annual meet-ing held at Martin County Community Center in Inez on October 10. There were 6 members and
one agent in attendance.
As usual, the food was great as well as the time we got to spend with our sister Homemakers from vari-ous other NEA clubs. Greenup County had numer-ous ribbon winners in the Cultural Arts contest, with eleven (11) entries moving on to State competition in April 18-21, 2016, at the Northern Kentucky Conven-tion Center in Covington. Congratulations to all ribbon winners!
Those blue ribbon winners moving on to State com-petition are Dreama Craft, Cheryl Ellis, Frances Pe-terson, Sharon Shaffer, Janet VanBibber, Bonnie Keeton, Claudine Williamson, and Janet Birch..

Although there will not be an open house at Greenbo this year, we are still printing enough copies of the Home-makers Christmas Recipe books for each homemaker to have one.
Club presidents should contact the Ex-tension Office after Thanksgiving break to make arrangements to pick up enough books for each club member.
Members-At-Large can stop by the Ex-tension Office and pick up a copy also after Thanksgiving break.

The November, 2015, Homemaker Lesson “Managing Holiday Expenses: How to Reduce Spending to Reduce Financial Stress” is a mail-out that is included in this newsletter on pages 7-10.
Holidays are often an exciting time of the year. Spending time with family, enjoying time off work, and celebrating with family traditions are enjoyable ac-tivities. However, the holidays can also represent added stress due to the crunch on your wallet. Have you ever looked forward to a holiday while wor-rying about how you will pay for it? Have you even stressed about how to provide a fun experience for children without breaking the bank? Decora-tions, gifts, and food expenses add up quickly. The objectives of this program are to learn to develop a budget for up-coming holiday expenses, identify ways to re-use and make decorations, and identify cost saving strategies for specific holidays.
NOVEMBER HOMEMAKER
LESSON MAIL-OUT
The January, 2016, Homemaker Lesson “Maximizing Your Dollars in Retire-ment” is a mail-out that is included in this newsletter on pages 11-13.
Feeling financially secure is important at all stages of life. Unfortunately, due to recent changes in the economy many retirees are feeling financially vulnerable. A recent study conducted by Allianz Life Insurance Co., found six o ten baby boomers fear outliving their retirement funds more than they fear dying. The objectives of the program are: (1) to identify ways to stretch your retirement income by reviewing retirement assets and expenses; and (2) to understand methods to maximize your retirement as-sets while protecting against inflation.
JANUARY HOMEMAKER
LESSON MAIL-OUT
There will be a Homemaker Executive Committee meeting on Wednesday, Jan-uary 20 at 9am at the Extension Office.
The Homemaker Council meeting will follow on the same day at 10am.
HOMEMAKER COUNCIL
MEETING
REALITY STORE
Greenup County 4-H Council will spon-sor the 18th annual Reality Store on Thursday, December 10 & Friday, De-cember 11 at the Extension Office.
The Reality Store exercise introduces youth to the “realities” associated with adulthood—provision of food, clothing, shelter, etc. for a family and how these relate to career choices. They receive a salary for the career they have chosen, and go through the “store” booths pur-chasing housing, transportation, child care, etc.
If you would be interested in volun-teering at one of the Reality Store booths, please contact the Extension
Office at (606) 836-0201.
