Thousands of students have come to Shawnee State University for a quality education in all sorts of fields but the university has more to offer than simply class- room education. The Verne Riffe Center plays host to student perform- ances as well as top-notch enter- tainment that comes in at regular intervals. From concerts to stage plays, the Vern Riffe Center surely hosts something your entire family will enjoy. The university’s theater depart- ment is presenting “Bat Boy: The Musical” Feb. 25-28 and senior student- directed one-act plays, “The Real Inspector Hound” and “Bad Blood (La malasangre)” on April 23-25 and May 1-2. “Bat Boy: The Musical” is a lively show loosely based on an early 1990s tabloid account of a half bat/half boy found living in a cave in Hope Falls, West Virginia. The musical comedy is meant for adult audiences. The one-act plays, which are comedy/farce for adult audiences, are very different in content but cho- sen to amuse and provoke thought. Other upcoming shows at the Vern Riffe Center include the musical “Anything Goes” on Feb. 12; ArcAttack, as seen on America’s Got Talent on March 3; and the Portsmouth Wind Symphony on April 12.
