YMCA CAMP CAMPBELL TRADITIONAL OVERNIGHT CAMPS

OUR PROGRAM Our two-week program emphasizes growth and strengthening character values in all campers. Throughout the program, campers learn more about themselves and how to work together as a cabin group. Whether it is playing an all-camp game, learning new skills in an activity session, eating meals in the dining lodge, or dressing up for our Wacky Tacky Tuesdays, campers form meaningful relationships, try new things, and have tons of fun.

Camp is full of traditional outdoor activities like campfires, hikes, skits and songs, cabin cheers, and the chance to sleep under the stars. Over two weeks, campers disconnect from the technology and distractions of outside life. Here at camp, our number one priority is providing a safe, positive camper experience. We believe that campers are most successful when given the opportunity to push themselves out of their comfort zones and discover resiliency, responsibility and confidence in themselves.

SKILL DEVELOPMENTAt YMCA Camp Campbell, we value camper’s choices by giving them a voice. Campers are asked to pursue four activity areas they are passionate about. Campers participating in the traditional two week program will work towards progressing, developing, and achieving new skills in their two week long activity choices. Campers get to try additional activities on camper choice days.

Progressive: Throughout the two weeks campers develop their skills and abilities in these four activity areas.Discover: Campers are given additional activity choices during the week to try new activities and discover what he/she can achieve away from home and school.Achieve: Through these achievements campers build confidence, knowledge, and a new found sense of excitement to learn. Achievements are celebrated at the end of each two week session.

CABIN LIFE One of the best parts of camp is meeting new people and spending time together as a cabin. In cabins, campers of similar ages live together and learn to make lasting friendships. Campers develop camaraderie with their cabin mates and counselors as they learn to make decisions as a group. Our staff are positive adult role models that help campers take responsibility for themselves and others, work together to solve problems, and have fun at camp.

MEALSOur kitchen staff prepare wholesome, kid-friendly food. Meals are a great time to meet new campers and counselors and to learn a sense of responsibility. While supervised by counselors, campers serve their own food and clean up their own table. Our menu is full of variety and options for our campers and we can accommodate most dietary restrictions.

YOUTH AND TEEN SPORTS LEAGUES (Ages 5–16)Youth sports at the Y is for boys and girls who want the opportunity to play in an organized sports program. Skill development, participation and teamwork are stressed in this noncompetitive program. Teams will be organized to ensure that everyone plays and that all teams have equal ability.

PRESCHOOL SPORT LEAGUES (Ages 3–5)Pre-school is a weekly (meets once a week) parent/child program that emphasizes skill development, improving self esteem, fair play, and fun while teaching the fundamentals of sports. The whole family is involved in this program. Preschool League is for kids who have little or no experience and want to learn and improve their skills in sports. Don’t miss this excellent opportunity to introduce your child to sports with the introduction of league play. Due to the young age of the participants, we ask that at least ONE parent plan on participating with your child each week in drills and games.

VOLUNTEER COACHESAll our Youth Sports teams are coached by volunteer coaches. Many are parents who have children on the team. There must be at least one parent volunteer to help coach a team. We fingerprint and administer background checks on all coaches to ensure they are suitable to work with children.

To volunteer as a coach, call 408 513 3173 for details.

HELPING CHILDREN THRIVE Project CornerstoneAt the Y, we partner with Project Cornerstone to help adults connect with children and youth in a positive way to help young people thrive.

Research shows that there are essential elements that are crucial to their healthy development. We call these elements “Developmental Assets”—the positive experiences, relationships, opportunities and values that young people need to thrive. We integrate these into all our programs and services.

The essential building blocks for young people’s successful growth and development fall into eight categories:1. Support: Young people need to experience support,

care, and love from their families and many others. They need organizations and institutions that provide positive, supportive environments.

2. Empowerment: Young people need to be valued by their community and have opportunities to contribute to others. For this to occur, they must be safe and feel secure.

3. Boundaries and expectations: Young people need to know what is expected of them and whether activities and behaviors are “in bounds” or “out of bounds.”

4. Constructive use of time: Young people need constructive, enriching opportunities for growth through creative activities, youth programs, congregational involvement, and quality time at home.

5. Commitment to learning: Young people need to develop a lifelong commitment to education and training.

6. Positive values: Young people need to develop strong values that guide their choices.

7. Social Competencies: Young people need skills and competencies that equip them to make positive choices, build relationships, and succeed in life.

8. Positive identity: Young people need a strong sense of their own power, purpose, worth, and promise.

You have the power to change lives. By building assets with Silicon Valley’s children and youth, you can help them to become competent, caring, and responsible adults.
