Welcome to the North Carolina State Miss Heart of the USA Pageant Program! My name is Jacque Listau and I am your State Director! My job is the make your trip to the North Carolina State Pageant a fun and memorable experience. So….if you have any questions please contact me. I have a few tips: Along with competing for your Divisional Title, choose at least one of our “Signature” Titles © or “Optional” Titles and go for it! You may just end up with both crowns! Our SpokesModel © title is for people who love to talk and aren’t afraid to introduce themselves. We need help in getting the word out about our program in the State of North Carolina! SpokesModels© spend their time talking to oth-ers about our program, putting up posters, posting on the internet, riding in parades and passing out lots of referral cards. Our Queen of Hearts © title is for people who love to get involved in food drives. Helping to supply our local food banks is what we are all about! Our Cover Miss title is for people who love to promote the program, collect money and WIN PRIZES! Our Community Queen © title is for the contestant who has a heart for community service.....helping those less fortunate.....they spend their time actually volunteering their talents and energy to local non-profit organizations that benefit their communities!

Now...personally...I would love each of you to do a little of it all during your reign as a Miss Heart of the USA Queen. However, you will most likely find an area of our program that you really like being involved in … Great! … then go for that additional title! Please remember, you must do the paperwork! Reports for the SpokesModel© Program, Community Queen© and Queen of Hearts© titles are due MONTHLY! I am going to be a stickler about this this year. They MUST be turned in monthly! Our Cover Miss Program is called “Partnership”! All Queens are required to sell a minimum of one quarter page ad for our 2016 North Carolina Miss Heart of the USA State Program Book ($100) … The Queen who sells the most Partnerships will receive the Cover Miss Queen title! The National Directors and I would like to welcome our New Queens and their families! We are extremely dedicated to the Miss Heart of the USA pageant program and to you our

Miss Heart of the USA family.

We believe in our vision of a pageant system that is low cost, family friendly and helps to build the self esteem of all our contestants while teaching them the value of community

service! We are proud of the fact that our Queens have collected over 10,000,000...yes...that is ten million nonperishable food items to local food banks and

charity organizations across the country.

All we ask is that you as a Miss Heart of the USA Queen are aware of how you represent the system that means so much to so many! Little girls across the country are watching you. You are their role model! So, with that being said, please read the guidelines below:

Appearances & Events: Your crown and sash cannot be worn with: Denim Pants or Denim Shorts Bathing Suits Inappropriate/Provocative/Revealing clothing (Keep in mind, NO B’s; No booties, bellies, or boobies)! We prefer your crown and sash not be worn with shorts period (unless you are one of our very little ones). ***If you are volunteering at an event or attending a fair/festival where it is hot outside or you need to be in comfortable clothing, we have Miss Heart of the USA Community Ser-vice Tee Shirts that can be worn! www.missheartoftheusa.com/heartwear or email sherry@missheartoftheusa.com This is the ONLY exception to the no denim rule! Pageants: Casual Wear Preliminaries: If you are attending a Miss Heart of the USA prelim to help crown/volunteer, we would greatly prefer that you be in a dress (a Sunday type of dress or cocktail dress would be perfect) with your crown and sash. Please Note: To actually be a part of the Queens that crown a new Queens Team you should be a Junior Miss +! We love our little ones, however, crowning can be a stressful and confusing time! Instructions MUST BE FOLLOWED TO THE “T” and sometimes this is beyond our “little” ones.

Formal Wear Preliminaries: If you are attending a Miss Heart of the USA prelim to help crown/volunteer, you need to be in a pageant gown. *** If you are a State Queen crowning at your State Pageant, you will need to be in cocktail attire all weekend except for crowning … crowning is pageant gown only! Floats and Parades: We highly encourage you to ride in all the parades! The more the better! Remember, this is SpokesModel © points! IF the Miss Heart of the USA Official Float (this is the float that is actually owned by the Miss Heart of the USA Organization) is in the parade, we would prefer that you ride on the official float! If your local Miss Heart of the USA Queens are putting together a float … we ask that it be functional and most of all SAFE! Please use the Miss Heart of the USA colors to decorate it (pinks, silver, white, black). You can always email Sherry (sherry@missheartoftheusa.com) for ideas and permission to use the logo. Queens riding a Float or in a Private Car should be dressed appropriately. That is you should look like the Queen you are. A nice dress (cocktail for our older Queens) and your sash and crown. NO DENIM PLEASE! If there is not a float available for your hometown parade, ride in a car! You can get per-mission from your National/State Directors to have magnetic signs made for your car! Manners and General Behavior: You are a Queen! Act like one! Be polite and courteous at all times. Watch your lan-guage! Queens are kind and courteous to EVERYONE they meet! Facebook and other Social Media: There is no such thing as privacy in Social Media. Everything that you post or “like” is public! Again, our younger Queens are watching you! Ask yourself if the language you use or the subject you are talking about is worthy of a “Queen”. When in doubt DON’T! If you aren’t sure about something, just ask! Please take pride in the title that you hold! When you wear your crown and sash, you are representing our program and ALL of your sister queens. You may be the only “Miss Heart of the USA” a person ever meets and they will base their opinion on our program and all our queens on you, your appearance, and your behavior! The Miss Heart of the USA pageant began as a food drive for a rescue mission whose pantry was low and blossomed into a National Pageant Program that has distributed over 10,000,000 nonperishable food items to nonprofit organization, collected toys for Toys for Tots, and even collected and distributed much needed baby items for a Women’s Hope Center. Areas of Competition

Required: Self Introduction — Baby, Tiny, and Future Little Miss Divisions will compete in their Miss Heart of the USA official State Tee Shirt, black skirt, shorts, slacks, or ca-pris and official Miss Heart of the USA Crown. Their introductions will be read by the emcee. Little Miss—Ms. Divisions will compete in their Miss Heart of the USA official State Tee Shirt, black skirt, shorts, slacks, or capris and official Miss Heart of the USA Crown.....they will have 60 seconds to introduce themselves: Name, Title and something about your Miss Heart of the USA reign. (i.e. something you liked about your reign, something you learned, etc.) Formalwear - Baby, Tiny, and Future Little Miss Contestants will need a short Pageant Dress to compete. Little Miss Contestants may choose either a short or long Pageant Dress and Petite Miss—Ms. Contestants will need a long Pageant Gown to compete. Contestants will be judged on Personality, Fit and Style of Garment (overall appearance), Poise and Smile (Stage Presence), and Beauty. * Dresses should be age appropriate * No Tea Length Dresses; No Heirloom Dresses * Although we are not a glitz system, we do allow dresses with rhinestones, etc.

Optionals: Photogenic – Photos MUST be 8 X 10 but do not have to be profession-ally done! They may be a headshot or full body shot. Photos are scored on personality projection, clarity and overall photogenic qualities of the contestant. Photos need to be turned in at the Registration Desk as soon as you arrive for State Check-in. No Photos will be accepted on Saturday! Your basic entry fee includes 1 photo. You may submit up to five (5) extra photos for judging (additional fee of $20 per photo). Photos that are not submitted on time will not be judged. All photos must be picked up immedi-ately following crowning at the Registration Desk.

Heart Themed - This area of competition is a chance for you to show us your sense of style. Get creative with your outfit! This outfit may be cus-tom made or “off the rack”. Model like you are in a fashion show. You will be judged on overall appearance, stage performance, personality, and beauty. Interview with the Judges — For Little—Ms. Divisions The Attire for this Interview is Interview Suit (Sunday Dress is acceptable for Little Miss and Petite Miss). A 3-5 minute Interview with the panel of judges focusing on how the contestant feels about the community service part of our program. Essay— For Little—Ms. Divisions A one page essay entitled “What Community Service Means to Me!”.

This title is what our pageant program is all about. The “Queen of Hearts” State title goes to the (1) contestant who is responsible for the collection of the most

non-perishable food items during her reign.

All our pageants are food drives, City/County Queens are encouraged to work with their communities to collect additional food items above

and beyond the required 25.

City/County Queens are also encouraged to work within their own communities to organize and help promote activities that will result in more canned food items

collected. City/County Queens can turn in canned food items collected all year long and get credit for our State Pageant Program.

All Food Items Must Be Turned in at a Preliminary this Year! This does not mean that you can only turned food in at the preliminary you win! What it does mean is that you must turn all food that you want to be counted for your State Queen of Hearts total in at any Miss Heart of the USA Preliminary! You will need to get a

receipt from the director in charge of that preliminary for your records!

Community Service Scrapbook- “Your year as a Miss Heart of the USA Queen”

As a Miss Heart of the USA Queen you are encouraged to get involved in your com-munity. This can be by volunteering at a local children's hospital, working at your lo-

cal food bank or getting involved with a local charity. . . We also want you to help promote the Miss Heart of the USA program and mission (Stomping Out Hunger One County at a Time) by riding in parades, making appearances at a local fairs/festivals etc., the opportunities are endless...the reward is that you will help to grow the num-ber of contestants who compete in our pageants and therefore help to increase the number of hungry families we help feed. To compete in this optional category use a scrapbook to keep a record or all the things you do to represent Miss Heart of the

USA........Remember “It’s your reign......make it a great one!” This Scrapbook must be turned in at check-in!

Important! Sportsmanship Guidelines

The Miss Heart of the USA Pageant Program has four (4) titles that are our “Signature” titles. They are Queen of Hearts © , Community Queen © the SpokesModel © Program and our Partnership Program. These titles were created by Ciera and Sherry to reward those Queens who truly work toward our goal of “stomping out hunger” from their hearts! For this reason “Sportsmanship” and the way you represent our system is as important to us as the total amount of points your acquire while competing for any of our signature titles. The fol-lowing is a list of some of the activities that will be closely monitored AND will be taken into con-sideration when determining the Queens who will represent the Miss Heart of the USA Pageant Program as one of our very highly honored and respected “Signature Title” Queens! **Courtesy to all Directors, Contestants and Queens —disrespect to anyone will not be tolerated! **Facebook Posts—You are a Miss Heart of the USA Queen 24 hours a day—Facebook post are very public and any “bashing” or unseemly comments on one of our pages or your own Facebook page will not be tolerated! **Falsifying a report of any type will result in immediately disqualification! **Queen should be doing their own activities (unless the Queen is too young....then we under-stand that a Baby Miss, Tiny Miss, or Future Little Miss cannot do posting or put up posters....we also understand that the Queen’s Mother is responsible for completing these activities in this case.)

2016 SpokesModel © Program 10 POINTS — for each completed “On-Line Posting Sheet” you turn in! (20 Posts per sheet)—Must be complete—with URLs. See Special Rules Regarding Posting 10 POINTS — for each completed “Poster Placement” sheet you turn in! (20 Posters per sheet)—Must be complete—with names of businesses and signature of owner, manager, etc. 10 POINTS — for each contestant who you refer who registers and competes in a MHoftheUSA Preliminary! 10 POINTS — for each contestant who you refer who registers and competes in a MHoftheUSA State Pageant 10 POINTS — for each contestant who you refer who registers and competes in the MHoftheUSA National Pageant 10 POINTS—for each “Press Release” or article about you and your reign as a MHoftheUSA Queen that you get printed in a local Newspaper! 10 POINTS—an Interview that is televised by a local station....must be about the Miss Heart of the USA Program. 10 POINTS—an Interview that is broadcast by a local radio station....must be about the Miss Heart of the USA Program. 10 POINTS—for riding in a parade representing your MHoftheUSA title.....can be either the MHoftheUSA Official Float or a private car. 10 POINTS—for a “fair or festival” appearance (at least a 3 hour shift). 10 POINTS—for making an appearance in your MHoftheUSA Sash and Crown at another pageant programs pageant.......the appearance must be made for our program ONLY! 10 POINTS—for all other PUBLIC appearances not listed above—Remember sash!

Special Guidelines and Rules regarding our 2016 SpokesModel © Program—Internet Posting

**You Must use the official “Post” for the pageant you are posting for (you can obtain the official post for the Director of the Pageant!) **You Must post to websites, blogs, Craigslist, Voy Boards (see special rules), Facebook pages (see special rules), etc. that are pageant related or community service related (On Line News Organization’s sites and Community and Event Calendars are also encouraged!)..... **The Post must benefit the pageant .....in other words you must find pages that people in the area that the pageant is being held will see! You cannot count a post for an Orlando pageant that is posted on a Michigan page......a 75 mile radius of the pageant is a good rule! **VOY BOARDS SPECIAL RULES: Voy Boards are a great place to advertise pageants.....however, you have to be careful! No “Bash” boards or boards that do not fit the Miss Heart of the USA’s wholesome image will be allowed! **You may post to the same Voy Board every three days .....no more often than this! **FACEBOOK POSTING SPECIAL RULES: *If you are posting on a group and you scroll down and a Miss Heart of the USA post is still visible. DO NOT POST! It is never our goal to SPAM a board. *DO NOT post pageant information on business pages like boutiques, salons, etc. without permission. We do not want our girls spamming business pages because we don’t like it when businesses spam our pages.

POOR SPORTSMANSHIP! It is considered “poor sportsmanship” to post on top of another contestant or Queen’s posts. If someone else has already posted our post to that site .....move on.....we realize that it will happen occasionally by accident...

....but someone who consistently posts on top of another Queen will be disqualified from our SpokesModel Program!

2016 COMMUNITY QUEEN PROGRAM©

The “Community Queen© ” title will be awarded to the one Miss Heart of the USA Queen who uses her reign to make the biggest possible positive impact on her community. How do you win this title? By volunteering your time to community service organizations that benefit your community and hold a place in your heart. Simply put, the Community Queen title is about giving your time, talents and energy to help benefit those less fortune in your communities! Organization like (but not limited to) Children’s Hospitals, Food Banks, Relay for Life, Non-Profit Organizations, etc. If you are not sure if what you are participating in is Community Service, ASK! You will find a Community Service Tracking Sheet attached. You must fill out one sheet for each and every Community Service Shift you participate in (one per day or shift please). You will need to mail these forms to our office by the 5th day of each month. The Community Queen Point System is simple — you get 1 point for each hour of Community Service you perform. You get 5 bonus points for each Miss Heart of the USA Team you are responsible for organizing.....example “A Walk for the March of Dimes” or a “Relay for Life Team”! However, the team MUST carry the Miss Heart of the USA name to count! You must wear either your Miss Heart of the USA Sash and Crown or your Miss Heart of the USA Tee Shirt while performing your community service work for your hours to count! Also please remember that your “Sportsmanship” during your reign will be consid-ered when awarding any of the Miss Heart of the USA “Signature Titles© ”! Each contestant is required to sell at least one 1/4 page ad in our 2016 North Carolina State Miss Heart of the USA Program Book. You can do this by

selling the ad to a local business or by selling “Signatures for Sponsorship” to your friends and family.

Ask 10 friends and family members to give you a $10 donation

(or 20 friends and family to give you a $5 donation), then sign their name on one of the lines below. Be sure to ask them to PRINT their name so I can read it. That can count as your 1/4 page ad. $10 x 10 friends/family members = $100! We will include it in the program book with your photo listing

the 10 friends and family members that supported you, making it possible for you to compete this year.
