12.35 – 13.00 TRAVEL DISTRIBUTION, REBOOT Amadeus buys Navitaire. Sabre buys out Abacus. Travelport’s latest acquisition as of July was Mobile Travel Technologies. Each of these traditional Global Distribution Systems are making moves to position themselves for the future. What’s the thinking and strategy?

Talkback:

A conversation with the world’s largest accommodation company which owns no property. On July 7, 2015,

It also reported a total of 35 million customers in May, 10 million of whom came on only in 2014. What role does Asia play in this juggernaut’s growth story?

According to a new Phocuswright Global and European Edition publication, the private accommodation market in Europe is significantly larger than in the US. More than twice as many British, French and German travelers – as a percentage of the respective traveler populations – have stayed in private accommodations over the past year. France, Germany and the UK alone are home to some 33 million rental travelers versus just 22 million US travelers. Now there are no clear stats available yet on the Asia market but you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to figure out the upside is enormous in this fragmented, diverse travel region. This panel looks at the opportunities in China and across the region.

Talkback:

A conversation with the world’s largest transportation company which owns no vehicles. Love it or hate it, it’s a brand that has truly disrupted ground transportation. Cars have been burned, drivers fined and city authorities are grappling how to deal with this phenomenon. But customers love it, the numbers tell the story. In 2014, it

17.15 – 17.50 AVIATION REBOOT Up to 80% of the Thai domestic flight market is now controlled by low-cost carriers. And low-cost forms close to 60% of the South-east Asian flight capacity. In this session, we look at how flying has been rebooted and the airlines leading the transformation, from a low cost player in Asia to a premium global carrier based in the Middle East.

GLOBAL TRAVEL: FACTS & FIGURESBASEMENT 2, HALL F, F61, ITB ASIA CLINICSThe Global travel industry is facing many challenges: in an ever more fragmented and complex market, customers with short attention spans searching for holidays from multiple locations on multiple devices. 14.20 – 14.30 Q&A

2014 saw that over one hundred million Chinese participated in the overseas travelling business. And the trend was accelerating in the first half of 2015. Everyone knows that China has a huge demand for outbound tourism; and yet, many overseas travel resource suppliers could not keep up with the pace. Some of the common questions are how to efficiently provide competitive travel resources, how to understand and fulfill the travel appeals from the Chinese tourists, how to conduct effective cooperation with China’s domestic travel agencies with low communication costs and how to confront the low information level of Chinese travel agencies. Tuniu.com (NASDAQ: TOUR), a leading Chinese online travel agency, has been working with many global resource suppliers ranging from guided tours, FIT, cruises, MICE, and etc. Tuniu.com will share its in-depth views and rich experiences, and will present the solutions via its proprietary Supply Chain Management System.

BIG DATA REVOLUTION AND HOW IT DISRUPTS CHINA’S TRAVEL & TOURISM INDUSTRIES (STB AND ITB ASIA)LEVEL 3, BEGONIA 310214.00 – 18.00 TOPIC 1: USING BIG DATA TO ACCURATELY CAPTURE THE RIGHT CONSUMERS In this realm of big data where business decisions are made from examining data sets, it is imperative for businesses to understand the importance of analytics findings to identify new revenue opportunities, develop effective marketing strategies and competitive advantages. Ctrip.com International Inc, China's largest online travel agency, had announced that it will be setting up a new platform that will focus on big data analysis for the hotel industry. With technology advancement and reduced data processing cost, the data collected and analysed will provide critical insights for the industry to understand consumer preferences and improve services. Join us as we hear from major players of the industry on how they are leveraging big data coupled with mergers and acquisitions, as well as continuous investment to consolidate their foothold in an increasingly competitive industry.

TOPIC 2: ENHANCING EXPERIENCE OF VISITORS USING TECHNOLOGY China travel and tourism is expected to register strong growth as consumer confidence and appetite for outbound travel remain strong. In 2014, over 109 million outbound travellers contributed to a travel expenditure of up to CNY3, 250 billion, this is due largely in part to how the internet has revolutionised the way Chinese consumers learn about the world and find out about new destinations and travel services, and an increasing percentage of Chinese travellers using mobile apps and services during the travel purchase circle. Most of the destinations and travel industry are also putting in more effort to attract Chinese consumers through enabling online reservations, e-ticketing and other digital interactions. Join us as we discuss how destinations, hotels, attractions, airlines can take advantage of the online platforms to upgrade their consumer travel experience at various point of the consumer purchase cycle. The session will also explore relevant case studies and forecast upcoming trends in technology for the travel industry. The sessions will be conducted in Mandarin, and simultaneous translation in English will be provided.

But the downside to the Human agent is that there is SO MUCH data that you can’t possibly know all of it. Where the Human agent further scored was she/he knew how to manipulate the data tools that the Travel Industry used such as a GDS. Does that still hold true when in the APAC region more than 25% of all flights and their associated products are not fully bookable? Further downside is that Humans who are really good at this are actually dying out. But Machine Learning and Big Data tools hold the promise of addressing the human capability deficiency.

Does this mean the Human Agency is toast? Can these two - the machine avatar and the human agent – co-exist or does one represent the death knell of the other? This Clinic will explore the likely future of the Human Travel Agency and share tips to adapting to the current changing environment.
