Student ProgramSponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica Inc., With You Every Step of the Way. Saturday, Dec. 6, 7:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.Separate registration required by Nov. 1 at an additional cost of $100. Limited to 100 students.

Opportunities to develop the clinical and career-management skills essential to fulfilling your equine veterinary pursuits will include educational dry labs, lunch with a guest speaker and professional development table topics.

Educational Dry Labs8:00-11:30 a.m.Included with separate Student Program registration.

Dry labs are an excellent way to develop practical skills and increase your marketability to potential employers. Select any three dry lab sessions listed below and receive hands-on training in core areas of equine medicine from experts in the field. Participation is capped at 100 total students to ensure optimal training and skills development. Each dry lab session lasts 60 minutes. Mark your selected sessions on the registration form on page 12.

1. Into the Deep: Uterine Procedures for the Field Practitioner Learn to perform common uterine diagnostic techniques, including uterine culture cytology and biopsy. Additional discussion and demonstration will focus on techniques such as transrectal palpation, ultrasound and low-volume uterine lavage.

2. Making a Point: An Introduction to Equine AcupunctureDiscover the basics of acupuncture technique in horses, including needle types, acupuncture sites/indications and equipment use.

3. On Target: How to Deliver Medications Using Subpalpebral Lavage Systems and Intravenous CathetersLearn how to install subpalpebral lavage systems and intravenous catheters in equine patients, which are techniques used every day in practice!

4. Putting Your Best Foot Forward: How to Acquire Perfect Radiographs and Determine the Source of the LamenessPractice with diagnostic analgesia interpretation as well as radiograph performance and interpretation.

5. Sinus Strategies: Tips for Successful Dental Exams and Radiographs Learn to perform an efficient but thorough oral exam, including assessment of alignment and occlusal surfaces. Discover the best radiographic views to take for common scenarios, how to aim, and how to interpret the resulting films (no radiographs will actually be taken during the lab). Start to distinguish primary sinus pathology from dental pathology.

Pave the way for your eventual transition from veterinary school to the professional world by absorbing the wisdom of successful AAEP members during the Annual Convention’s robust slate of student offerings. From clinical skills training to professional development sessions to social and networking opportunities, the student events at the Convention can open the door to achieving your career aspirations.

These informal but highly informative sessions led by successful practitioners allow students to interact and discuss common concerns and solutions related to the hot topics facing veterinary students transitioning to new graduates in today’s economy.

1. Financial Management: Topics will include handling student debt, budgeting after graduation, the business of practicing veterinary medicine, and more.

2. Life: Topics will include making the right life and career choices, starting a family, achieving work-life balance, managing your career along with your spouse/partners, surviving vet school, and more.

3. New Horizons: Topics will include discovering your goals and mapping the path to achieve them, negotiating the job you want, starting out on your own, deciding if a residency is right for you, and more.

Student chapter presidents are invited to meet their colleagues and AAEP staff to discuss student perspectives on AAEP programming and the equine profession.

Join us for an interactive lunch and celebration of student accomplishments. Following lunch, teams of students will pit their knowledge of equine medicine against each other in the second annual Hoof Test Challenge, a fun and entertaining game show-style contest. Captained by volunteer practitioners, teams will answer trivia questions and compete in “Minute To Win It”-style challenges. Prizes will be awarded.

The AAEP has reserved a block of rooms for students at the Little America Hotel, which is four and a half blocks from the Salt Palace Convention Center. You may register online through the Students section of www.aaep.org. Annual dues must be current to register at the member rate.

To register by mail, you must send your payment with the form for processing. Unless otherwise requested, your canceled check will serve as your receipt. By includ-ing your credit card number on the form, you may fax us your registration at (859) 233-1968 or (859) 255-6289. You may photocopy the registration form if you wish to register additional people.

All attendees registering on site at the student rate must present verification of en-rollment in a veterinary school to be eligible for this special rate.

If You Can’t Make It

We’ll need your cancellation in writing. Refunds will be given for registrations canceled prior to Dec. 1, with a $25 service charge assessed on each canceled registration. Refunds will be issued after Jan. 15, 2015.
