Dear Hoosier Hospitality Conference Attendees:

It is truly my pleasure to welcome you to South Bend, Notre Dame and St. Joseph County as we host you for the next few days for our annual industry conference. We’re especially excited to feature the conference in the midst of our most visited attraction – and one of the most visited attractions in Indiana – the University of Notre Dame campus. From the newly reopened AAA Four Diamond Morris Inn to the ideal facilities of the Notre Dame Conference Center, we have attempted to plan a comfortable, convenient, and above all, worthwhile 2014 Hoosier Hospitality Conference.

It’s the first time north central Indiana has played host for this conference and we’ve enlisted many of our CVB and attraction colleagues to help us literally give you a taste of our area of the state. Many thanks to the invaluable efforts of these fellow

northerners. In addition, I have to specifically thank Notre Dame and the staffs of the Morris Inn and Notre Dame Conference Center for their support, flexibility, and eagerness to help us spotlight our destination. Together, our local planning committee and organizers have taken this opportunity very seriously to put our best foot forward and take ownership of the concept of Hoosier Hospitality for a few days.

Throughout the conference please look for any volunteers wearing a blue “Welcome Home” button – these individuals are at your service to answer any conference, community & facility questions to make your experience as pleasant as possible.

On behalf of my amazing staff, I just want to personally thank you for making the trip to South Bend and Notre Dame. I know we’re a little further away for many of you, but we are so proud of our rejuvenated community and internationally recognized campus. I can honestly tell you we’re thrilled to share our destination with you, if only for a few days. Thanks again so very much for attending.

Hospitably,

Rob DeCleene, CDMEExecutive Director

Welcome Hoosier Hospitality Conference Attendees!

Thank you for coming to beautiful South Bend for this year’s conference. As always, this event offers an outstanding opportunity to learn and network with other hospitality and tourism professionals.

The Indiana Office of Tourism Development, the Restaurant and Hospitality Association of Indiana, the Indiana Hotel and Lodging Association and the Association of Indiana Convention and Visitors Bureaus have planned informative sessions addressing topics from customer service and marketing to current trends in technology.

This is an exciting time for Indiana’s travel, tourism and hospitality industry. Indiana welcomes 71 million visitors a year who spend over $10 billion dollars in our state.

Tourism is the sixth largest industry in the state and supports over 186,000 jobs. Equally important, the hospitality industry, combined with the many parks and attractions spread across our state, provide enhanced quality of life for visitors and Hoosiers alike. Governor Pence and I thank you for your commitment to grow this important industry.

The best is yet to come and our new statewide marketing platform serves as a way to unite all regions of the state and elevate the undertold stories that make Indiana such an attractive destination.

Enjoy the conference, and please take advantage of the sessions and networking opportunities. Your friendships, collective networks, and sharing of ideas are an important part of the hospitality industry.

Thanks to each of you and all those you represent. Every day you help create the authentic experiences and bring the undertold stories to life. You make our state a great place to live, visit and work. That’s Honest-to-Goodness Indiana.

Sincerely,

Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann

If so this course is for you!In this day and age, more than ever, we find ourselves immersed into a digital age where transactions, business deals, and day to day communication is done almost exclusively online. This makes networking and having a strong communication set essential to achieving your and your company’s goals. It can be too easy sometimes to view networking as a transaction to be completed and forgotten by the end of the day. KATIE FRANK, ZINGERMAN’SIt was Katie’s love for food that eventually led her to Zingerman’s. As a young girl growing up in Dayton, Ohio, she baked large K-shaped cookies and many cakes. Years later, she went to Vanderbilt for a B.A. in Human and Organizational Development. While at Vanderbilt, Katie played basketball as the team’s captain, not just to burn away the K-shaped calories, but to also hone her leadership and teambuilding skills. Katie stayed on at Vanderbilt for a Masters in Human Resource Development.

After leaving Vanderbilt, Katie’s education, passion for team building, leadership skills and love of baking all came together at Bread and Company, Nashville’s premier bakery. She started at Bread and Company as a retail staffer, eventually working her way up to Director of Retail Operations, and ending her four year tenure there as General Manager, bringing their fourth store on line.

In 2005, Katie came back to her Midwestern roots and joined Zingerman’s Bakehouse as a manager. She led a team of 12 people to create “The Zingerman’s Experience” at

Zingerman’s Bakeshop, a tiny (800 sq. ft.) retail space in the industrial park where Zingerman’s Bakehouse bakes all of its artisanal breads and pastries. Undaunted by the challenge of the location and space limitations, Katie responded to the tough economy by growing the annual sales by 40% to $1.6 million during her six years there!
