Grad Assistant FAQ’s• Do I need to work during break periods (i.e. winter break, spring

break, etc.)?– On holidays during which the university is closed, you do not need to

report to work. However, you are contracted to be here during break times on non-holidays. It is up to your supervisor to decide your schedule. They may ask you to work, ask you to make up the missed hours at other times, or just give you the time off.

• What if I can’t come to work because I am sick or need to study?– Again, this is something you need to discuss with your supervisor. As a

GA, you are salaried and have no paid leave to use on those days. He or she may ask you to make up the hours. Excessive missed days could lead to the termination of your assistantship.

• Do I need to do a timesheet?– GA’s are salaried employees so HR does not require timesheets to be

submitted. However, your supervisor may ask you to complete time sheets to track your

hours or a weekly or monthly basis.
