The YMCA – It’s for Everyone! We’re more than just a place to work out; more than a place where families can spend quality time together; more than a place to swim; more than a place for kids to play team sports; more than a place for seniors to stay young at heart. With our varied programs and classes, the YMCA offers something for every member of your family.

• Members receive special rates on summer day camp, before and after school child care, youth sports, swim lessons and other programs for children. You could save $15 to $30 per week on summer camp fees, which may cover your monthly YMCA cost.

• We provide drop in Kids’ Club while you’re working out.

• We have an affordable one-time join fee and your monthly rate may be based on your total annual household income with no contracts to sign.

• Stop by for a tour and you will receive a guest pass for your family to try the Y!

“The staff was great. They taught my son the four core values. He was always busy going on trips, reading and playing games. He met lots of other children and they became friends. He hated to leave every day.”

Page 4: 2010 Summer Day Camp Brochure

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENTOur four core values and their respective colors are Caring (red), Honesty (blue), Respect (gold) and Responsibility (green). These core values provide the framework for our program and membership activities as we strive to build strong kids, strong families and strong communities.

40 DEVELOPMENTAL ASSETSThe Search Institute has identifi ed a framework of 40 developmental assets for children. The YMCA has adopted these assets and incorporates them into all YMCA programs. Three of the assets that our summer camp programs will stress every day are:• A safe environment that provides a

sense of belonging• Caring adult role models• Creative activities that include

children’s input

SAFETY ANDGROUP RATIOSOur primary objective is a positive camp experience in a safe environment. Staff are chosen carefully and are certifi ed in both First Aid and CPR. Enthusiasm, knowledge, responsibility and genuine concern for each camper are staff prerequisites. In order to provide maximum leadership and individual attention, 12-15 campers are assigned to each counselor in our 5-10 year old programs. No more than ten campers are assigned to each counselor in our 3-4 year old programs and no more than 20 campers are assigned to each counselor in our 11-14 year old programs.

SWIMMINGAll children will be swim-tested before they will be allowed to swim. Staff will then determine each child’s skill level and the child will receive a color-coded necklace. Red: child requires a fl oat belt and may only swim in the shallow end of the pool; Yellow: child may swim in the shallow portion of the pool only, but does not require a fl oat belt; or Green: deep-end swimmer. Due to water depth, there is no swim testing at Calypso Cove.

FIELD TRIPSField trip costs are included in the weekly camp fees. Transportation is provided by school bus. For safety reasons, children cannot be dropped off or picked up from the fi eld trip location.

REGISTRATIONRegistration is available online, at every YMCA Branch and also by mailing in the enclosed registration form. Enrollment in each camp is limited so we recommend you register well in advance. If you have any trouble registering online, call the YMCA at 582-3623 for assistance.

Financial AssistanceAssistance based on family size and income is available through the YMCA Spirit Program. Visit our website or call 587-9622 for an application.

LICENSINGAll YMCA summer camps follow similar policies and procedures recommended by the State of Kentucky. Designated sites are licensed by the State and are eligible for various third party child care reimbursements provided by 4-C, Foster Care, United Way, etc. Contracts must be provided at the time of registration to receive the discounted weekly fee.

SPECIAL NEEDSChildren with special needs who can function successfully in a group of 15 campers with one staff person are welcome to participate in any of the YMCA summer camp programs. Children who require additional supervision should register for a CEP site. Children who cannot board a school bus without assistance should register for the CEP Goldsmith site.

Get ready for the best summer ever!Get ready for the best summer ever!Camp Piomingo has offered co-ed summer camp programs for over 70 years, building a rich tradition of activities that are more than just fun for children. Overnight camps are often a child’s first extended trip away from the comfort of their home. The experience enables them to become a self-sufficient individual in a safe, fun, healthy, and friendly environment. Supervised by experienced and caring staff, our campers leave with new friends, new skills, and a lifetime of memories!

2010 will be better than ever with a new 3,000 sq. ft. pool and water slide! We’ve updated a lot this year, so campers will enjoy English horseback riding lessons, pipeline slide, kayaking, fishing, water trampoline, mountain biking, a ropes course and a zip line, plus numerous adventure activities, crafts and so much more! There are lots of fun options for ages 6-16; camp dates are June 6 through July 30.
