The frog seen is a spinal frog. A menu allows users to select from ten possible experiments. A medullary reflex can be triggered simply by applying an acetic acid solution on a specific spot (the toes) of the spinal frog's left foot. When solutions of increasingly concentrated acetic acid are applied, the contractions will extend to a greater number of muscles. This allows users to see increasingly more complex reflexes in the stimulated animal. The use of ether, curare, scissors, a needle, and a scalpel allow users to modify functional elements of the frog's reflex arch and thus check the role played by each one of the elements in the exteroceptive medullary reflex. Students can study the frog's exteroceptive medullary reflexes on their own or by following a series of instructions. They can explore the animal's responses at different anatomical and histological levels by using various parameter combinations.
