15 anti-aging secrets for sexy sourcers

After attending Sourcing Summit Europe in 2013

I published this on SlideShare:

It got more traction than any other content I ever published before.

Realizing their potential, sexy sourcers also

see their competition growing and they’re not getting any younger. So how do you stay a sexy

sourcer as you age?

By stepping up your game of course!

Yeah ok, but how?

You could start by applying these 15 tips top sourcersshared at the 2014 edition of Sourcing Summit Europe:

1. Change your setting.

Many people that start actively sourcing are used to responding to applicants, which means their standard setting is assessment mode. Realizing you and everybody involved in the hiring process has to change their setting into selling mode makes a very big difference.

2. Pick up the phone.

Only 6% of sourcersuse the telephone to reach out to candidates as primary tool and sending connection requests delivers the worst engagement rate. You do the math…

3. Deliver personal, relevant messages.

Being able to deliver a message that will make somebody want to do anything else than hitting the delete button or end the call

is something not many people can do.

4. Create and show the easy route.

People take the easiest route. If you have the easiest route to something they want and you want as well, you win. Did you know that not including a link to a vacancy has a higher response rate than including a link?

5. Don’t be too direct.

Go to a bar. Who really wins? The person who just walks up to people asking them to sleep with him or her?

6. Dress to impress.

A lot of sourcers could easily be more successful by making people think they take care of themselves.

If it seems you don’t respect yourself, how are people supposed to trust you to respect them?

7. Ask questions.

People like talking about what they know and what they like and will like you for enabling them to do so.

8. Research

When approaching somebody in the bar, you don’t immediately disclose that you already know their favorite drink, food, movie, color

and music. But it’s really nice to have that information at the moment when the other

person is ready to be impressed, right?

9. Have many short conversations.

A first conversation doesn’t have to be a long one.Make sure you leave a good impression and find out when and how to approach the person again.

10. Timing is everything.

Find out at what times of the day you are more successful. For most people it’s best to call/sell in the morning

and to research in the afternoon.

11. Don’t be scared of the low-hanging fruit

Yes, it’s cool to impress other sourcers with a very weird way of finding one candidate, but nobody (who is paying your salary) cares about where candidates

come from, so don’t make your job harder than it has to be and and use your own ATS, referrals from employees and CV databases to find the other ones.

12. Use employee data to perform better

Find out where your current employees are coming from and what schools/universities they attended. Use this data to become a more efficient sourcer.

13. Don’t just use Google.

Certain databases for example are not indexed by Google, but people search engines such as Pipl are

able to send requests to them.

14. Scale sourcing

Create standard, repeatable procedures that can be owned by others, automate whatever can be

automated without decreasing results and focus on continuous process improvement.

15. Set conversion targets

This is the only way to find out how much input you need

for what output and to improve your process.
