11 simple and natural ways to reduce celluliteCellulite describes the uneven appearance of free-floating fat cells deposited just beneath the skin. The fat cells dimple because muscle pushes them up against collagen fibers, causing the skin above it to pucker.

Cellulite can be found on people of all shapes and size, but it primarily affects women. In fact, more than 85% of women will deal with cellulite at some point in their lives versus only about 10% of men. This is because men are more likely to hold their fat in their abdomen, whereas women tend to store it in their thighs, hips, buttocks, and arms. Women also tend to have less (and differently shaped) connective tissue to keep fat in place.

Though cellulite itself is not harmful, many people do not like the way it looks, and more importantly, it may be indicati-ve of other health issues. Sometimes it is hereditary, but the most common unnatural causes of cellulite are hormonal imbalances, an unhealthy diet, or a toxic lifestyle.

Our bodies are bombarded with toxins on a daily basis. Toxins accumulate quickly when exposed to things like refined sugars and salts, processed foods, preservatives, chemicals, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, indoor and outdoor pollu-tants, and many other things that are other than the best ever. Our bodies store these toxins in our fat cells to protect us by helping reduce exposing them to our vital organs. Therefore, cellulite may indicate a real need to clean up our act!

Here are 11 simple and natural ways to help reduce cellulite without breaking the bank:

1. Dry BrushingDry brushing is one of the most useful and effective ways to smooth away cellulite. It works by helping to remove stagnant toxins that can break down the connective tissue needed to keep cellulite at bay. Pressure against your skin helps move lymph fluid through the lymph nodes where toxins can then be eliminated. The lymph system is part of our immune system and is made of white blood cells (lymphocytes) and interstitial fluid that suffuses our cells, bringing our cells nutrients and removing their waste. Our bodies contain more lymph than blood, so it is vitally important - all detoxification occurs first and foremost via the lymph. Poor blood circulation means the lymph cannot properly do its job, resulting in cellulite, varicose veins, and a weakened immune system.

Dry brushing improves circulation to deliver oxygenated blood to the skin and supports the lymph flow, which helps reduce the appearance of cellulite. It also softens hard fat deposits below the skin while distributing them more evenly, promoting tighter skin and cell renewal.

Everything You Need to Know About How To Dry Brush:• Purchase a natural bristle brush with a long handle so you can reach all areas of your body. Add a few drops of Food for the Immortals® Organic Longevity Coconut Oil™ to the bristles.

• Dry brush when your body is dry. It’s best to do it right before you shower. Do it at least once a day - twice a day is even better.

• Always brush towards your heart because lymph flows toward the heart. Plus, brushing away from your heart can put pressure on your veins.

• Start on the sole of your right foot. (You may find it helpful to sit down.) Brush up your ankle, shin, calf, and knee. Then do the same on your left side. Next, stand up if you are sitting, and brush your right and then left thigh from the knee up. Move over to your abdomen, brushing in a counterclockwise motion. Brush each arm, starting with the palm, inward towards your heart. Gently brush the chest area, but not your actual breasts or nipples. Brush the neck area by starting at the nape of your neck and stroking over the shoulder to the front. Lastly, use the long handle to help get your back, or better yet, have your partner do it for you...

• Pay attention to the sweet spots. Be sure to get the the inner thigh and under the arms, which are key for removing toxins.

• Do not brush over broken skin (cuts, patches of eczema, etc.), sensitive areas, varicose veins, or bruises.

• Do not brush your face (unless you use a special brush made for this).

• The pressure you apply should be firm but not painful. Invigorate your skin, but don’t shred it! Your skin should be a light pink when you’re finished. If it’s red, lay off the pressure a bit next time.

• Take a shower after you dry brush. Consider taking a contrast shower (alternating between the hottest water temperature you can stand and the coldest) to stimulate blood circulation and lymph drainage.

• Shake your brush over the sink or trash to get rid of skin cells. About once a week, wash it with soap and water, then let it dry completely before using again.

• After getting out of the shower, dry off and massage your skin with Food for the Immortals® Organic Longevity Coconut Oil™ or David Wolfe Foods® Organic Raw Cacao Butter, warmed into liquid form.

• Bonus Tip: After dry brushing, drink a glass of warm water with lemon. It hydrates the lymphatic system, and supports a healthy body pH, detoxification, the elimination of toxins, and weight loss.

Many women who have cellulite are also dehydrated. This results in the body storing more fat deposits and toxins beneath the skin, which also reduces the skin’s elasticity and slows circulation. When skin is weakened, it has a much greater tendency to show cellulite than when it is thick and healthy. If you are not giving it enough water to do its thing, your body simply will not be able to break down cellulite effectively.

We need to aid our body’s natural detoxification process to help flush out toxins. Fat cells with high toxicity harden into bead-like clumps that contribute to the orange peel texture of cellulite. Proper hydration may help your body metabolize fat, cleanse itself of toxins, and grow thicker and more elastic skin, which may reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Plus, when cellulite is broken down, any toxins that were stored there will release back into your body. In order to flush these contaminants out, we must drink plenty of quality spring water. Water is a critical part of this process and not getting enough often results in more toxic buildup. The more water you consume the more you need to replace the electrolytes in your body. Add a little pinch of David Wolfe Foods® Icelandic Sea Salt to your water to ensure your body has all the electrolytes it needs.

2. Stay Hydrated

3. Do A Coffee ScrubCoffee scrubs have been shown to reduce the appearance of cellulite over time. The massage and exfoliation benefits skin by stimulating blood/lymph flow. The caffeine in coffee dilates blood vessels, which temporarily tones and tightens tissue. Plus it increases circulation and reduces water retention, both of which help smooth the rumpled look of cellulite. The antioxidants in coffee may also help to release toxins, which is not only helpful for cellulite, but for healthy skin overall.

Here, we combine coffee grounds with moisturizing, skin-soothing coconut oil, and a bit of sea salt for an extra exfoliating kick. By massaging these ingredients onto any problem area with firm pressure, you’ll stimulate blood flow resulting insmoother, firmer skin. Use 2-3 times a week. Results should be visible within a few weeks:

Massage can aid the circulatory and lymphatic systems. Massaging cellulite is also beneficial for targeting those difficult areas that can’t always be reached through exercise, such as the inner knee and upper thigh.

1. Apply (or have your partner apply) warmed Food for the Immortals® OrganicLongevity Coconut Oil™ or David Wolfe Foods® Organic Raw Cacao Butter to theaffected areas.

2. Start massaging at the lowest point and go up towards your heart:

A. Knuckle Massage: Apply pressure to the skin, alternating between long strokes and circular ones using your knuckles and fingers. Use your fists to push into cellulite bulges. By pressing hard enough to break up some fat deposits, your body’s own metabolism will be able to better deal with them naturally.

B. Kneading Massage: Grasp your skin with your thumb and all fingers and massage it in circular motions as if you were kneading dough. Use finger kneading for smaller areas (inner knee, upper arms, calves) and hand kneading on larger areas (hips, thighs, stomach) to bring the blood closer to the surface. This is a squeeze-and-lift type of massage which aids the body with eliminating waste deposits.

4. Include Massage

C. Wringing Massage: Relax your muscles. Grasp portions of flesh with both hands and twist as if wringing out water from a towel. Use this massage on the bottom, thighs, and fleshy hip areas.

D. Pinch and Pull Massage: Pinch the skin gently between your thumb and fingers and pull it slightly away from the body.

E. Effleurage: Finish off with some effleurage (broad contact strokes) from the extremities upwards. This is to relax the body and encourage the upward flow of freed deposits to their ultimate elimination: lymphatic drainage.

Bonus Tip: Using a deep tissue foam roller regularly can work for those hard to reach places too!

While massage alone will help reduce cellulite, there are many essential oils that will give your massage that extra oomph it needs to really kick your battle against cellulite into high gear. A potent combination of essential oils can penetrate the lipid layers of the skin and stimulate the lymph and circulatory systems.

These essential oils are not only astringent and toning, but further support cellulite eliminationfrom our systems with their diuretic and detoxification properties:

Juniper Berry : Juniperus communis. Supports healthy fluid balance in the body and steady lymphatic system movement. Renowned as a detoxifying and purifying aid, juniper supports a healthy excretory system. Massage it on the influenced locations every day in order to support toxin removal via a healthy lymphatic system.

Rosemary : Rosmarinus officinalis. Diaphoretic and supportive to a healthy circulatory system, rosemary is tonic, astringent, and supportive to strong connective tissue. Rosemary is a great essential oil to use against cellulite due to its ability to support the lymphatic system.

Cypress: Cupressus sempervirens. Supports healthy fluid balance in the body. Stimulates healthy lymph flow and is excellent for healthy, strong vein support due to its vasoconstricting effect. Cypress is a strong astringent that supports blood circulation and detoxification.

Geranium: Pelargonium graveolens. Supports healthy fluid balance in the body and supple limbs and muscles. Supports a healthy lymphatic system, encouraging the elimination of toxins; Balances skin tone and sebum, and supports healthy connective tissue.

Standing Forward Bend - Uttanasana

#26

Yoga is a form of resistance exercise that increases muscle mass and improves muscle tone. It consists of poses placing your body in positions requiring muscle contractions against the resistance of your body weight and/or gravity.

Lunging poses in a standing position strengthen your buttocks and thigh muscles. Twisting poses stimulate your internal organs, aiding in digestion and the removal of waste products. Inverted poses encourage fluid drainage and strengthen your circulatory system. Intentional breathing improves the circulation of oxygen and nutrients throughout your body. All of these activities can help with cellulite. Yoga tightens, tones, and lengthens the muscles, making your skin look smoother.

Here are 10 yoga poses that target cellulite:

1. Standing Forward Bend - UttanasanaThis pose stimulates the liver and kidneys, supports digestion, and strengthens the thighs:

Stand with feet hip-distance apart. Exhale and bend forward from the hip joints, not from the waist. Place your hands next to your feet or on the ground in front of you. Lay your chest on your upper thighs as you let your head fall toward the ground or bend your elbows and hold on to each elbow with the opposite hand. Let the crown of your head hang down. Press your heels into the floor as you lift your sit bones toward the ceiling. Turn the tops of your thighs slightly inward. Do not lock your knees.

Be careful not to push too hard. The more you relax into this pose, the deeper your stretch will be.

Chair pose - Utkatasana

#28

2. Chair pose - UtkatasanaThis pose strengthens the thighs and ankles, while toning the shoulders, buttocks, hips, and back. It also tones your digestive organs, and holding this pose for several breaths increases the heart rate, stimulating the circulatory and metabolic systems:

Begin in Mountain Pose, stand with feet together, big toes touching, and ankles slightly apart. (Beginners can stand with their feet hip-distance apart.) Inhale and raise your arms perpendicular to the floor. Exhale and bend at the knees, reach hips back (as if sitting onto the edge of a chair) and lift your chest up to the sky. Do not bring the hips lower than the level of the knees. Make sure that the knees are pointing straight ahead.

At the same time, reach your arms up by your ears and lengthen through the fingertips, keeping shoulders relaxed. Lift your spine as you tuck your tailbone underneath you, drawing your lower abdominals in. Sit down more deeply as you continue to focus on your breath. Hold for 5 - 8 breaths before standing back up into Mountain Pose.

3. Eagle Pose - GarudasanaThis might be the best exercise for fighting cellulite because you have to tighten and tone your inner and outer thighs to hold this pose and really squeeze the thigh muscles firmly. You also have to engage your core and entire lower half of your body:

Bend your knees slightly. Lift your left foot up and, balancing on your right foot, cross your left thigh over the right. Fix your gaze at a point in front of you. Hook the top of your left foot behind your right calf. Balance for one breath.

Cross your arms at the elbows, left over right; press your palms together. Squeeze thighs tight and pull your belly to your spine while you sink lower, bending slightly at the knee and a bit forward at the waist.

Eagle Pose - Garudasana

Hold for 5 breaths, then repeat with arms and legs reversed.

Modifications: If double-crossing your legs is too challenging, cross just once at the thigh and rest your top foot’s toes on the ground for balance. If your shoulders are too tight to double-cross your arms, wrap one under only and press the backs of your hands together.

4. Inclined/Reverse PlankThis pose is great for toning the backs of the thighs where cellulite tends to be most prominent:

Start seated with your legs out in front of you. Bring your hands slightly behind you with your fingers facing forward. With straight arms, press firmly into your hands and feet and lift your hips up into an inverted plank. Hold here for 5 to 8 breaths then lower down and repeat one more time. If you experience any shoulder discomfort, stop the exercise.

5. Warrior III - Virabhadrasana IIIWarrior III improves balance, memory and concentration, and tones and invigorates the whole body:

Standing with your feet together, point your left toe behind you, tipping your weight forward onto right leg. Look down at the floor and stare at a point for balance. Inhale as you raise your arms over your head and interlace the fingers, pointing the index finger up. Hinge forward and reach out through the left toes and the crown and fingers making one straight line. Make sure your left thigh, hip, and toes (pointed or flexed) stay facing downward (imagine balancing something on your lower back.) Keep the muscles of both legs actively engaged. Straighten your standing leg as you continue to lift the left leg, but do not lock your knees. Hold for five breaths, then slowly return to standing to switch legs and repeat.

Modifications: If balancing on one leg is a challenge, reach your arms out to the side like airplane wings to help you keep your balance.

Cow Face Pose - Gomukhasana

Cow Face Pose - Gomukhasana

6. Crescent Lunge Twist - Parivrtta AnjaneyasanaThis pose stretches and tones the legs, hips, and buttucks; and opens the chest, shoulders, and arms. Twisting the torso applies pressure to your internal organs, toning them and supporting their abilities to detoxify your body:

Standing with feet together, press your hands into prayer position at the center of the chest. Tighten your abdominal muscles and lunge your left foot back so the right knee is directly above the right ankle. Hinge your chest forward as you twist from the waist to the right. Rest your left elbow just outside the right knee, keeping hips level and facing forward. Hold for five breaths. Bring torso back to center, lift chest, and return to standing. Repeat with legs reversed.

7. Cow Face Pose - GomukhasanaThis is a more challenging seated pose. It is a deep hip opener and can be difficult for people with tight shoulders. It is known as a restorative pose as well because of its ability to support full muscle release.

Sit on the floor. Bend your knees up while keeping your feet on the floor. Then cross the right leg in front of the left, and walk both ankles out to the side walls. Slowly walk the hands to the tops of the feet or ankles. Use your arms as support while you slowly lower the hips down to the floor or to your heels. You will feel a great release in your hips and buttocks and a gentle stretching of the thighs. Breathe deeply and hold for 5 breaths, then switch legs and repeat.

8. Bridge Pose - Setu Bandha SarvangasanaAmong many other benefits, Bridge Pose stimulates the abdominal organs and thyroid glands to support digestion and help regulate metabolism:

Lie on your back. Bend both knees and place the feet flat on the floor hip width apart. Press down into your feet, and lift your hips and butt off the ground. Lightly squeeze the knees together to keep the knees hip width apart. Press your shoulders down away from your ears and interlace your fingers under your hips, pressing your fists into thefloor. Engage the legs, buttocks and core to lift the hips higher. Hold for 5 breaths. Lower slowly to the ground. #33#32

Easy Plow Pose - Purva Halasana

#34

9. Easy Plow Pose - Purva HalasanaPlow Pose opens the neck, shoulders, and back. By compressing the abdomen, it massages and tones the digestive organs, which supports detoxification. It also supports the healthy function of the thyroid gland:

Position a folded blanket under the shoulders. The head and neck should be off the blanket. Lie on your back and bend your legs. Using your abdominal muscles, lift the legs over the head until the toes touch the floor behind the head. You can press your palms against your back or interlace your fingers behind your back and straighten your arms. Beware of the natural tendency to allow weight to fall into the neck and back of the head. Body weight must be held and controlled by the arms with hands placed on the lower back. Return slowly rolling your backbone back on the mat.

10. Legs Up the Wall - Viparita KaraniInverted yoga poses help aid the lymphatic system. This pose gives you all the benefits of an inversion, but it is suitable for all body types and fitness levels. By reversing the effects of gravity on your legs, you can really help move stagnant fluids that may build up there, support healthy blood pressure, support your digestion, and support hormone balance. In this posture, you will be using gravity to your advantage.

Find an open wall space. Start seated beside the wall, with your feet on the floor in front of you and your left side body in contact with the wall. On an exhale, gently lie down on your back and pivot yourself so that your heels and sitting bones are supported against the wall. If you have any discomfort in your lower back, adjust your body slightly back from the wall so that your sitting bones are not touching it. You may need to wiggle around a bit to find your way into this position. Relax your neck and place your hands on your belly or at your sides with palms facing up. Focus on your breathing and with each breath release any stress or anxiety, starting from your feet and down through your body.

To come out of the pose, slowly bend your knees and roll over on to your right side, curling up into a fetal position. Linger for a few breaths and then press up until seated, being mindful that you may feel a bit lightheaded.

By eating a healthy diet, you can help reduce cellulite. First and foremost, avoid all processed sugars, which get stored in fat cells and cause them to expand. Next, try adding in some of these eleven powerhouse foods that have been shown to help fight the appearance of cellulite:

Top 11 Cellulite-Fighting Foods:1. GrapefruitPerhaps the most famous cellulite-blasting food is grapefruit. This healthy fruit has a special combination of vitamins, minerals, and methoxylated bioflavonoids that help support healthy cell proliferation, metabolic processes, blood circulation, and collagen production in the skin. Grapefruit also supports the lymphatic system in the release of toxins from the body, and supports balanced fluid removal. A few notable ingredients are pectin, a soluble fiber that supports the digestive system, especially the intestinal tract which clears your body of waste; Naringenin, a type of flavonoid that is considered to have a bioactive effect on human health as an antioxidant, carbohydrate metabolism promoter, and immune system modulator; and an enzyme called AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), which helps support steady metabolic function.

2. TurmericTurmeric is a true superfood. In fact, mixed with honey in equal proportions and taken twice a week, turmeric works wonders for reducing body weight by initiating cleansing and reducing water retention, making the body look slimmer and more toned. It contains Curcumin, which is a powerful substance that supports detoxification. Turmeric is readily absorbed by the body, so you can also gently massage it over cellulite deposits. The Curcumin in turmeric then starts directly releasing toxins and triggers fat burning in those areas as well.

For a daily body detox, try adding in a few tablespoons of Superfood Cider Vinegar into your salad dressings or mix two tablespoons of Superfood Cider Vinegar with one teaspoon Raw Honey, and drink it two times a day on a regular basis.

Drinking apple cider vinegar provides key nutrients and minerals to the body that improve circulation, support blood flow, and contribute to your overall health. It acts as a digestive tonic, helping to stave off harmful bacteria in the intestines, flush out toxins and stress hormones, rebalance estrogen, and relieve water retention around the thighs and stomach – all of which helps to reduce cellulite.

David Wolfe Foods® Organic Raw Unfiltered Superfood Cider Vinegar is organic, naturally gluten-free, vegan, and contains no preservatives or additives. It is raw, unfiltered, and unpasteurized, so all the nutrients are intact. A slightly cloudy appearance indicates naturally occurring strains of proteins, enzymes, and friendly bacteria. #42

8. Omega-3 Fatty AcidsAnother theory is that consumption of the wrong kinds of fats leads to an imbalanceof the fatty acids that the body needs for smooth skin and tissue. Consuming enoughOmega-3 fatty acids and fat soluble vitamins may help reduce cellulite over time. Omega-3s stimulate the production of collagen and help support a healthy inflammatory response throughout your body, which both help reduce the appearanceof cellulite. 10. AvocadoAvocados are the perfect food for supporting balanced insulin levels andkeeping cellulite at bay. This popular superfood is chock full of potassiumand folate, and is a good source of other anti-cellulite nutrients includingvitamin C, vitamin E, and B-complex vitamins. It’s also high in EssentialFatty Acids (EFAs), which can help to strengthen skin and keep it supple andelastic. It is also high in fiber. Oleic acid found in avocados can be convertedinto OEA (oleoylethanolamide) in the small intestine. OEA, a type of fatty lipidhormone, activates an area in the brain area that increases the feeling ofsatiety and fullness to help naturally curb appetite and contribute to weightloss. It’s also packed with the ever important antioxidant Glutathione, whichsupports the removal of toxins from the liver.

11. PineapplePineapple contains potassium, which supports the extraction of fluids and toxins that may cause lumps and cellulite accumulation. It also contains vitamin C, which may stimulate collagen production, vitamin K, which supports healthy blood circulation, as well as Bromelain, known to support a healthy circulatory system.Try rubbing the stem of a fresh pineapple over affected areas and fasting onCitrus Kola’s (*see The Beauty Diet for recipe) for three days and see what happens!

Still not sure what could be causing you to have cellulite? It could be your hormones. Hormone balance is essential to begin and maintain weight loss.

Estrogen dominance wreaks havoc on a woman’s body and exacerbates cellulite. As estrogen is released into the body, fluid builds up in fatty tissues. It also weakens the septa, causing a “lumpy” appearance and may promote increased storage of fat cells. Other contributors to cellulite can be low thyroid function (hypothyroidism), adrenal dysfunction (overactive adrenaline and cortisol), and blood sugar imbalances.

So, what can you do to help balance your hormones? Recognize common culprits and take steps to minimize your risk. Here are a few:

1. Weight gain: Having too high of a percentage of body fat causes testosterone in the adipose tissue to be converted into estrogen with the help of the enzyme aromatase.

What to do? Exercise! Focus on the largest muscle groups: legs, back, and chest. This will boost your testosterone. Plus, doing a little weight training can help build firmer muscles to replace or minimize fat. In the beginning it may seem to worsen the cellulite, but in the long run there will be less estrogen production, and you will notice a difference.

2. Exposure to Xenoestrogens: Xenoestrogens are estrogen-like chemical substances found in plastics, pesticides, processed foods, cosmetics, and the environment. Chronic exposure contributes to estrogen dominance, which is at epidemic levels in our society, and is associated with severe PMS, fibrocystic breast disease, bloating, infertility, troublesome menstrual cycles, depression, endometriosis, mood swings, and yes, excessive weight gain!

3. Burdening the Liver: Estrogen is removed from the blood by the liver. If there are more toxic substances circulating in the liver, it will give priority towards removing these substances from the blood over estrogens, causing more estrogen to remain in the blood.

What to do? Limit alcohol intake and eat as clean as possible to put less strain on the liver. Also, consider doing a liver flush every three months to keep your liver free of stones and build up. When your liver is able to function at maximum capacity, it’s better able to clear out unnecessary estrogens.

4. Stress: Stress increases stress hormones, namely cortisol. Continuous increases in cortisol levels disrupt hormone balance. Stress will also decrease progesterone levels and make your body believe there is more estrogen. This is important because progesterone is the precursor from which all other hormones are created, including adrenal hormones. Stress instigates the production of adrenocorticosteroids to defend against stress. If you’re constantly stressed, your body can’t produce enough progesterone and this leads to adrenal exhaustion. Additionally, stress lowers melatonin levels.

What to do? Try meditation. Meditation can provide a dramatic boost in human growth hormone (HGH), serotonin, and DHEA hormone levels while decreasing cortisol. People who meditate are also able to maintain healthy levels of melatonin by reducing stress and restoring balance. As a result, they sleep more soundly and wake up feeling refreshed each morning. Ideally, add at least 20 minutes of meditation twice a day, but even just 5 minutes will make a difference.

3. Lack of Sleep: Lack of quality sleep is your worst enemy when it comes to hormones. Sleep affects several hormones and metabolic processes in the body. Even just one week of sleep deprivation can cause significant changes in glucose tolerance. Chronically not getting enough zzz’s is also associated with weight gain, lower leptin levels (an appetite-suppressing hormone made by fat cells), increased ghrelin levels (a hormone released by the stomach that can increase hunger), cortisol imbalances; not to mention what it does to your cognitive skills and immune system! The bottom line: If you aren’t getting adequate sleep, your hormones are not doing you any favors.

What to do? Get some shut-eye, my friend. And make sure it counts. Not everyone needs a full eight hours of sleep. Just make sure you are getting what you need. You’ll be able to tell if you are meeting your daily requirements by how you feel. It’s that simple. Here are a few bonus tips for getting the biggest bang for your bed-time:

• Prepare: About an hour before hitting the sack, avoid “blue light” found on TV and computer screens. Try turning off all lights and use 1-2 salt lamps for minimal light needed during your evening routine. Eat a handful of nuts to support tryptophan production. Right before bed, drink a warm cup of herbal tea, like chamomile or Spring Dragon Longevity Tea (Gynostemma). These support natural relaxation when needed and the warmth of the tea will temporarily increase your core body temperature. The resulting drop a few minutes later will help you stay asleep once you’re out. Don’t drink too much! Waking up to pee 15 minutes later can disrupt the whole party.

• Breathing Techniques: Have trouble falling asleep quickly? Try the 4-7-8 breathing technique and fall asleep in 60 seconds!

Breathe in through the nose for four seconds, hold the breath for seven seconds, exhale for eight seconds, and then repeat three more times. This exercise will slow down the heart rate and prepare the body for relaxation.

• Turn Out the Lights : Light seeping in from windows or from your alarm clock can have profoundly negative effects on the production of sleep hormones melatonin and serotonin. Invest in a sleep mask or some blackout curtains if where you sleep is not completely dark.

• Create a Sleep Sanctuary : Unplug all electronics and turn off your Wifi and cell phone for the night. Try grounding yourself with an Earthing™ Connection Universal Mat, Earthing™ 100% Cotton Sleep System, or an Earthing™ Grounded Beauty Pillow Case. Keep the temperature on the cool side.

• Sleep On Your Left Side: The left side of the body is the dominant lymphatic side. Your lymphatic system supports detoxification.

Infrared sauna may be helpful in our quest to lose weight and cellulite! The deep penetration of infrared heat can help mobilize heavy metals and toxins out of your fat cells, which can contribute to the appearance of cellulite. Stagnant pockets of fat can be storehouses for chemical toxins...and the more toxins that accumulate in our bodies, the more fat our bodies can create to store the toxins! A vicious cycle. As we flush these chemical toxins, our fat cells can shrink. An infrared sauna can help accelerate detoxification by stimulating the release of fat, acidic waste, and retained water trapped within areas riddled with cellulite.

Now that you are on the road toward a cleaner lifestyle that will help reduce the appearance of cellulite, remember to steer clear of these common pitfalls that may sabotage all your hard work!

1. Avoid processed foodsThey’re often full of trans fats, additives, table salt, carcinogenic substances, or sweeteners, which can cause toxin-overload in the body. Remember, toxins in the body can affect the dermis and contribute to cellulite formation.

2. Don’t Just Drink Any Old WaterDrinking water may be one of the simplest cellulite treatments available. Water works as a natural cleanser and helps flush toxins right out of your body. Make sure you aren’t adding in more toxins than you are flushing out by drinking poor quality water, such as tap water, which is often laden with chemicals, hormones, pesticides, bacteria, pharmaceuticals, and many other contaminants and known carcinogens. Instead of water straight from the tap, drink fresh spring water whenever possible, or at least the highest quality water you can get, preferably in glass - and make sure you have filters on your shower and faucets.

3. No Refined (Table) SaltIt is important to eliminate refined salt from your diet because it contains sodium chloride, which can contribute to fluid retention and poor circulation. This, too, leads to cellulite. Choose sea salt or Himalayan salt, which are rich in minerals and trace elements that are, in small amounts, necessary for the body. Switch from processed salt to a natural sea salt like David Wolfe Foods® Icelandic Flake Salt or Himalayan Pink Salt. These have minerals that will help with metabolism and hydration.

4. Throw Away Chemical-laden Beauty ProductsYour skin is your largest eliminative organ - you should be able to eat whatever you put on it. It sounds obvious, but always be sure to read the labels of anything you put on your skin. Even products you trust and may have been using for years can change their ingredients at any time, and they do not have to tell you.

11. Avoid Toxic Habits That Can Sabotage Your Efforts

#55

Our bodies develop fat cells to protect us from toxins. Therefore, using unnatural lotions that are loaded with petrochemicals, pesticides, and heavy metals to target cellulite is a temporary fix that will eventually result in more fat cells!

5. Clean Up Your Cleaning SuppliesMany popular cleaning supplies are dangerously toxic. Not only are they horrible for the environment, they are usually loaded with endocrine disruptors. There is no end to the tricks endocrine disruptors can play on our bodies: increasing production of certain hormones while decreasing others, mimicking certain hormones, transforming one hormone into another, disrupting hormone signaling, aging cells prematurely, competing with essential nutrients, binding to hormones, accumulating in organs that produce hormones. Remember, balancing your hormones is an essential step toward reducing cellulite. Switch to natural home cleaners, or make your own!

If you are planning on making your own cleaners, purchase some of these basic ingredients and you can clean anything - safely:

6. Tame toxic thoughts (and this is a BIGGIE!)Most importantly, don’t obsess over getting rid of cellulite. If it doesn’t completely disappear, that’s okay, because at the end of the day cellulite itself is not a real ‘problem’ or flaw. With 80-90% of women having some degree of cellulite, even if we don’t love the way it looks, it is a relatively normal function of the way women’s bodies store fat. But negative self-talk, now THAT’S a real problem.

The average person has over 30,000 thoughts a day. Research shows that fear alone triggers more than 1,400 known physical and chemical responses, and activates more than 30 different hormones. And some believe that toxic thoughts are stored in each cell of our body, just as much as toxic chemicals. So you can see where how we think can impact how we feel in our body, and how that can manifest itself with exacerbated cellulite.

Stress and negative self body-shaming can sabotage even your best efforts to reduce cellulite by actually causing weight gain and more cellulite build up. Consciously controlling your thought life by being grateful for all the amazing things your body does for you every day without you even having to think about it is a great way to start to detox your brain from negative thinking and start appreciating your body for the magnificent and beautiful thing that it is!

Try repeating a mantra in the morning in the mirror, or anytime doubt or unkind thoughts sneak into your head. Pick one of these that speaks to you the most, or create one of your own, and make it part of your daily positive self-talk habit. Print one (or all) of these out and post in locations you will see throughout the day :

I am strong. I am beautiful. I am enough. I am breathtaking. I am a masterpiece. I am love.

I am healthy and happy. I am radiant. I love my body. I love myself.#58 #59
