Since 2005 Erik Van Loon unveil each year a new I Will Win painting of 33 x 20 ft. (10 x 6 m.) near mile 20 of the New York City Marathon.

American DreamHe show those XL paintings guerilla artwise (without endorsement / permission) to realise his American Dream 6 to 7 seconds of fame by showing his painting to the 50.000 runners and 260 million people in 120 countries who watch this largest one day sport event in the world.

I Will Win was never broadcasted though and that’s why he came back every year since with a new I Will Win painting.

Erik Van Loon portrayed himself using the colors and elements of the American flag and the Dutch Royal House of Orange. On his chest he painted his official runners number.

Like his first I Will Win painting The News is also a self-portrait. This time an autobiographical work in which he painted himself in past, present and future.

Erik Van Loon portrayed himself as the Statue of Liberty by painting himself as the Greek soldier Pheidippides, who was sent from Marathon to Athens to announce the Greek victory over the Persians at the Battle of Marathon.

Erik Van Loon portrayed himself running naked in Central Park. This selfportrait is inspired by Eadweard Muybridge “A Man Running” one of the founders of the Motion Picture Film, and the exhibition The Bodies (New York, Tokyo, Moscow, Amsterdam, Paris, London).

Photoshoot in Central ParkIn order to make The Body Erik asked Paul Posse to make a nude photo from him at the finish line of the New York City Marathon. Dallas Pesola made a short video about this photoshoot.

Erik Van Loon painted an election poster to memorate the 2012 US Elections. In this poster he painted USA (except Alaska), all 50 states (border), the US flag, a star and the text Vote Van Loon – It’s time for love and Vote Love Now. The star represent his mother who died that year.

White HouseIn 2012 Sandy stopped the NYC Marathon. After two days helping the victim’s of the storm Erik decided to show The Elections, at election day, in front of the White House.

Erik Van Loon made a painting inspired by the love and peace movement which started in 1967 in Washington DC and many other cities throughout the US. For The War he copropriate and honours the photo “La Jeune Fille a la Fleur” from Marc Riboud. This photo shows the young pacifist Jane Rose Kasmir planting a flower on the bayonets of guards at the Pentagon during a protest against the Vietnam War on October 21, 1967.

PeaceThe photo would eventually become the symbol of a peace, love and flower power. The characters are from the 1969 Woodstock Pop Festival posters.
