Ask ‘What was the story about? What happened?’ Elicit ideas Students in pairs – quickly discuss the story. Monitor 10 Reading Hand out the story. Students scan the story and underline all the verbs. Check in pairs. Elicit and board all the verbs. 20 Presenta tion Teacher highlights the verbs which demonstrate the four spelling rules for regular past simple verbs. Elicit/explain spelling rules. 30 Controll ed practice Hand out the gap-fill grammar worksheet. In pairs, students complete the sentences with past simple regular verbs.
