Our summer sermon series, Encounters with Jesus begins May 31 as we look into the parables and stories surrounding Jesus life. Well look at His response to skepticism, having an inner circle of friends, real sin and much more. Are you ready for an encounter with Jesus?

Thank you for coming to First Presbyterian Church of Orlando this morning! So glad youre here. We worship together as a church family in four services on Sundays: Traditional worship in the Sanctuary at 8:30 and 11am, and Genesis worship in Lee Fellowship Hall at 9:45 and 11am. If youd like to connect and learn more about this church, visit our Legacy Room adjacent to the Sanctuary, or you can visit fpco.org/guest.

Pastors, missionaries and lay leaders from around the world will be visiting our church this June for the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. We want to create a warm welcome and help this special group be encouraged in their ministry. Can you volunteer for 4 hours during the week of June 23-27? Pick your ideal spot at fpco.org/ga or visit the table under the Angel Wing this morning (between the Sanctuary and Allen Hall). Register today and be a part of the team!

This coming Thursday will mark exactly forty days since the resurrection. It was on this day that Jesus ascended to take His rightful place at the right hand of the Father. The King of kings returned home! Jesus earthly physical body ascended to heaven. There is no way that it would ever be possible for humans to ascend to the holy environment in heaven in the presence of God. Because Jesus Christ took on flesh and was incarnate, it became possible for humans to attain heaven through Jesus Christ alone. Christians are joined with Christ in the heavenly place. At our departure from this earth, those united to Christ in faith, immediately enter the presence of God. It is Christs ascension into heaven that makes all of this possible. Next Sunday we will celebrate this transformational event. - Dr. Dan Sharp

ABOUT COMMUNIONToday we celebrate the sacrament of Communion, also known as the Lords supper, the story of which is found in Luke 22:7-19.

We believe in an open table. We invite every believer who has publicly professed faith in Jesus to join us in this celebration. We believe by the power of the Holy Spirit, that the bread and the cup become for us the living presence of the broken body and shed blood of Jesus. We do not believe it becomes actual flesh and blood, but the spiritually living presence of God through the Holy Spirit.

Presbyterian churches do not have altars like other churches may. We have a table, symbolic of the Great Feast of Thanksgiving we will one day enjoy with Jesus and the heavenly host, as illustrated in Matthew 26:29 & Luke 22:16-18. We view the cross of Christ as the final and sufficient altar, on which the ultimate sacrifice was made.

Suggestions for Celebrating Communion. Before serving the bread and wine (non-alcoholic grape juice), the pastor will lead the congregation in a time of prayer. During this time, confess your sins to God; ways you have violated His commandments; areas of your life where you are not living by faith; things you do in an attempt to earn His favor.

While the bread is being served, meditate on what the death of Jesus means for you; how the sins you confessed were laid upon Him and paid for with His body. Rejoice that you do not suffer Gods judgment because Christ suffered this judgment on your behalf.

While the cup is being served, let it wash away your guilt, much the way we are washed spiritually by the blood of the Lamb (Jesus). One day, you will feast with God and all that your heart desires will be fully satisfied. Take this time to confess specific things that capture your heart more than God (approval of others, success, your family, etc.). Rest in His presence.

  • WELCOME!

Our church campus will soon be the permanent home of a new sculpture, Homeless Jesus. Depicting a covered figure on a park bench, with distinctly pierced feet, the bronze sculpture is the work of Canadian artist Timothy Schmalz.

The same piece has already been placed in several cities throughout the world, including Toronto, Washington DC, Dublin, and is set to be installed in several more, including London, and the Vatican in Rome.

Our hope is that the presence of the statue will not only bring more attention to the cause of homelessness, but also motivate all of us to think differently about the homeless, and see them as image-bearers of God and worthy of respect and care, regardless of their circumstance.

Given by three anonymous donors in memory of their loved ones, Homeless Jesus will be placed next to the sidewalk on Jackson Street, close to the corner of Rosalind Avenue.
