WELCOME!

NEXT STEPSLove the City Beautiful this Week. Did you know we serve breakfast to the homeless community of Orlando every Sunday morning? We average 150 people, offering a hot meal with coffee and a time of worship together each week, and there’s a spot for you to come and serve any Sunday. This is a great opportunity for families to learn about humble and respectful mission together. To join in, meet at 6:15am in Lee Fellowship Hall.

SAVE THE DATE

THIS WEEKThank you for your donations for Strike Hunger month in July. Together we collected more than 500 pounds of food for our friends at Conway Cares, who to give weekend food packages to hungry students in local elementary schools. Praise God for His generosity through this church family!

We worship together as a church family in four services on Sundays: Traditional worship in the Sanctuary at 8:30 and 11am, and Genesis worship in Lee Fellowship Hall at 9:45am and 11am. If you’d like to connect and learn more about this church, one of our leaders will be available at the front of the room after worship, or you can visit fpco.org/guest.

NOTES

Jesus, sought me when a stranger, Wandering from the fold of God He, to rescue me from danger, Interposed His precious blood Ode to grace, how great a debtor, Daily I’m constrained to be Let Thy goodness like a fetter, Bind my wandering heart to Thee Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, Prone to leave the God I love Here’s my heart, Lord, take and seal it, Seal it for Thy courts above - Come Thou Fount

Many of us come to God in prayer and find it very easy to immediately begin with a list of things we want to have happen, or circumstances we want fixed. After all, our mind is occupied with the world in which we live. Yet, when I read the recorded prayers of people in the Scriptures, I find their prayers begin very differently. Their words begin with the greatness of God. With this in mind, the opening prayer of our worship services always begin with what we call an “Ascription of Praise,” in other words, we come together as a community of worshipers ascribing to God – His greatness. This prayer is very vertical in its orientation. Psalms 95-100 are good examples of such. Let the words of the Ascription this morning be words of worship from your own heart as together we ascribe glory to our great God and Savior. - Dr. Dan Sharp

*Passing of the Peace St. Paul always greeted with the words, “The peace of God be with you.” This is an appropriate way to greet fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, and so we say, “The peace of the Lord be with you” and respond, “And also with you.” We then pass this greeting of peace to one another. At the passing of the peace we should earnestly desire God’s peace upon each person we greet.

ABOUT COMMUNIONToday we celebrate the sacrament of Communion, also known as the Lord’s supper, the story of which is found in Luke 22:7-19.

We believe in an “open table.” We invite every believer who has publicly professed faith in Jesus to join us in this celebration. We believe by the power of the Holy Spirit, that the bread and the cup become for us the living presence of the broken body and shed blood of Jesus. We do not believe it becomes actual flesh and blood, but the spiritually living presence of God through the Holy Spirit.

Presbyterian churches do not have altars like other churches may. We have a table, symbolic of the Great Feast of Thanksgiving we will one day enjoy with Jesus and the heavenly host, as illustrated in Matthew 26:29 & Luke 22:16-18. We view the cross of Christ as the final and sufficient altar, on which the ultimate sacrifice was made.

Suggestions for Celebrating Communion. Before serving the bread and wine (non-alcoholic grape juice), the pastor will lead the congregation in a time of prayer. During this time, confess your sins to God; ways you have violated His commandments; areas of your life where you are not living by faith; things you do in an attempt to earn His favor.

While the bread is being served, meditate on what the death of Jesus means for you; how the sins you confessed were laid upon Him and paid for with His body. Rejoice that you do not suffer God’s judgment because Christ suffered this judgment on your behalf.

While the cup is being served, let it wash away your guilt, much the way we are washed spiritually by the blood of the Lamb (Jesus). One day, you will feast with God and all that your heart desires will be fully satisfied. Take this time to confess specific things that capture your heart more than God (approval of others, success, your family, etc.). Rest in His presence.
