your giftsWe have faith that our Parish community will rise to this challenge. As you prayerfully consider making a sacrificial gift to our Capital Improvement Campaign, we hope you will reflect on what our churches mean to your faith and your community. The chart below illustrates how we can reach our ambitious goal with a few extraordinary gifts, and many more modest donations. We rely on your generous hearts to find the best giving level for you.

There are several options for giving that will help make your goal both meaningful and impactful:

We ask you to make your pledge commitment on or before July 27-28. Please bring your completed pledge form and envelope with you to Mass, and drop your pledge in the offertory basket, or mail it to the parish at the address shown. You can also make your pledge using a form on our website. Donations are accepted at any time. You can make Capital Campaign donations using the special collection envelope, by mail, or on the website. We thank you for all you do for the parish.

www.stpeterthefisherman.me

Pledges & donationsWe invite you to consider a three-year pledge, payable between August 1, 2019 and July 31, 2022. Many contributors will pay a portion of their pledge each week or month, which makes larger gifts more affordable. Some will pay on an annual basis. Others make a one-time contribution through cash or a gift of stock. You can select a payment schedule that works for you. For those who are able, you might consider an upfront gift to the campaign. Your upfront contribution will be immediately applied to our renovation projects.

Memorial giftsGifts made in memory of a friend or family member are a wonderful way to honor deceased loved ones, former parishioners, or those who have guided you on your faith journey. Simply include their name on your pledge card, and they will be listed and shared throughout the campaign.

Family giftsMany of our parishioners have been attending Mass at our churches for generations. Consider pledging as a family, even if some family members are now living outside the parish. Your gift then becomes a tribute to your own family tradition of faith.

Letter From

FatherMy Dear Parishioners,

It is a true delight for me to have been assigned to St. Peter the Fisherman Parish, my first parish assignment in the Diocese of Portland, Maine. While it is true that I had no idea where Downeast Maine was located when first told of my assignment, not only have I come to know it, but I’ve also come to love it. Rich in history and culture, our extraordinary Catholic community has been a beacon of light in this area for almost 200 years. For these and many other reasons, I will always consider Downeast Maine and St. Peter the Fisherman Parish my home away from home.

As with any home, over time repairs and proper maintenance are necessary. When I approached our Parish Finance Council with a lengthy list of critical repairs, which we did not have the resources to make, we explored several possibilities before concluding a capital campaign was necessary and could be successful. Volunteers readily stepped up and formed our Capital Campaign Planning Committee and it has been meeting weekly to get things in place for our campaign’s launch this summer.

As we move forward, it is important to remember the sacrifices of the many Parish families who have gone before us who built and maintained our beautiful facilities. We are blessed to have a gener-ous Parish family today who loves our churches and helps care for our community and worship spaces. As a family who cares for each other, the Foundation for the Future Campaign is an ambitious oppor-tunity to continue this legacy of a sustainable faith community and create an enduring commitment to stewardship that will ensure future generations have the same.

If our Parish is to remain a beacon of light in our community, we need the participation, support, and prayers of all our families and seasonal visitors. Therefore, I ask you to carefully review the details of this document and prayerfully consider how God may be asking you to help us achieve our goals. By uniting our hearts in love for Jesus, may we faithfully serve the Lord now and for many generations to come.

With prayers for your holiness and God’s abundant blessings,

our challenge

St. Peter the Fisherman Parish has faced many challenges over the years. Our Parish facilities include three aging churches, two rectories and three Parish Halls, all suffering from deferred maintenance. Our Parish membership has been dwindling, and we struggle to meet operating costs such as heat, which alone costs $24,000 annually. We have found ourselves without con-sistent administration for many years, depriving us of the leadership we needed to meet our challenges.

We are encouraged by the many recent efforts of our Pastor and our faithful community to assist the Parish, such as the energetic Friends of the Fisherman Parish Guild, the talents of Veronica’s Veil Altar Society, our new Men’s Group, and the Coffee and Catechesis seminars. All of these efforts and others are engaging parish members and building our community.

our faith

We are blessed with hard working volunteers and loyal, generous parishioners. We are fortunate that Father Clement is eager to provide the spiritual and administrative leadership we have needed for so long. We believe that a combination of physical improvements to our facilities, planned stewardship for future needs, and increased evangelization and education will help to strengthen and grow St. Peter the Fisherman Parish. We know that now is the time to take bold action to ensure we are successful.

our plan

Our Capital Campaign Committee has set two goals, which we plan to meet over the next three years.

Maintenance Goal: $153,350Our Maintenance Goal is the amount needed to address urgent repairs at many of our facilities: replacing the shingles and boiler, and rebuilding the chimney at Sacred Heart Church in Lubec; replacing the shingles at St. Michael’s Church in Cherryfield; replacing the boiler and chimney on the Holy Name rectory in Machias, and repairing the chimney on Holy Name Church. More details on these projects are available in the Campaign brochure and on our website: www.stpeterthefisherman.me.

Stewardship Goal: $230,025Our Stewardship Goal is the total amount we hope to raise. It will allow us to meet our immediate repair needs, and set aside an additional amount for future repairs and capital improvements. An ongoing commitment to stewardship is necessary to sustain our parish, and maintain the 15,000 square feet of building space in our care.
