Grad Lab for Credit Recovery An opportunity for juniors and seniors who have

failed a class to recover the lost credit and graduate on time.

All work is done through APEX and is mostly online. Students may work from home on classes; however,

there is a greater opportunity for successful completion when scheduled to work in the lab.

Courses are designed to take 6-9 weeks to complete, meaning that students are expected to complete at least two (or more courses) in a semester.

Page 30: Class Fundraiser Academics – GPA,Class Rank, and Standardized Tests Preparing for College and Career STAAR Testing Off Campus Reminders Attendance

Grad Lab

Grad Lab for Acceleration:Example…

You have recovered the lost credit from a class, and it is too late in the semester to return to a face-to-face class. You can take another class that you need to graduate in the Grad Lab. Caution, however: you must complete it in the required time frame, and you must pass the class.

Extracurricular commitments allow a student to make more room in their schedule.

Futures Academy students are currently taking Economics classes that will not easily fit in into their schedules next year.

There is currently a student who had one class to recover in the Grad Lab, but has been able to complete both Economics and Government as well because she completed her required course before the deadline. She worked on her classes diligently from home and is now ahead rather than behind.

Grad Lab

1. The Grad Lab is not the easy fix. self-motivation self-discipline Immune to distractions

(i.e. social media/fantasy football/Beyonce’s outfits)

2. Grad Lab is a last resort; accountability is high Not for everyone, see above Consistent progress, or you will be removed Once you’ve been removed, you cannot return NCAA Clearinghouse Policy

Page 32: Class Fundraiser Academics – GPA,Class Rank, and Standardized Tests Preparing for College and Career STAAR Testing Off Campus Reminders Attendance

Grad Lab

4. Demonstrate Work Ethic Everyday Quite possibly more challenging! Expected to work all of the time Meet your deadlines. Independent reading is plentiful

5. Academic Work Tasks Digital quizzes/activities Hard copy essays and exams. Paper assignments are submitted & graded by a certified Westside teacher.

Grades reflect accuracy and effort, not simply that you turned in piece of paper.

Final Thoughts…Grad Lab

LAST RESORTThe Grad Lab means you are behind and graduation is at risk. This is not a good thing.

SECOND CHANCE

MAYBE YOUR LAST CHANCE

PRIVILEGE vs RIGHT

SO, get down to business!

be a graduate-make your family

proud!STRIVE TO STAY IN CLASS!Truth be told, as much as we are

addicted to technology, nothing replaces face-to-face learning from a teacher. Nothing.
