Blessed Are We
Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. (Matthew 5:11–12)
When you heard the Beatitudes
announced today, which one struck
you most strongly?
Who is welcome in the reign of God? Who would you like to tell about the reign of God?

PIVITOL PLAYER SERIES Nativity of Our Lord Parish, along with Our Lady of the Eucharist Parish, Pittston will be offering a four-part series using Bishop Robert Barron’s CATHOLICISM: The Pivotal Players, a multi-part series that illumines a handful of saints, artists, mystics, and scholars who not only shaped the life of the Church but changed the course of civilization. On the four Lenten Tuesdays of March, 2017, we will be undertaking two of the saints from the series.
ST. FRANCIS, The Reformer Rebuild my Church! That’s the mission Christ gave to St. Francis and it’s the perennial task of the
Church in every age of its life. But how is the reform and renewal of the Church to be accomplished? The life of St. Francis demonstrates that Christ intends the foundations of true and lasting reform to be built on the solid rock that is the radical witness of the saints.
ST. CATHERINE of SIENA, The Mystic Is the physical world all there is? Is science the only path to ascertaining truth? St.
Catherine of Siena witnesses to a higher world beyond the material. Though the fourteenth century mystic never studied theology, and never learned how to read or write, her life constitutes a powerful challenge to the flattened-out secularism of our time.
Morning sessions will be held on Tuesdays, March 7, 14, 21, and 28 from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Eucharist parish hall. Please contact Sister Mary Ann Cody, IHM at 570-654-0263 or [email protected] to register. Evening sessions will be held on Tuesdays, March 7, 14, 21, and 28 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Nativity of Our Lord’s former convent (across from Holy Rosary School). Please contact David Tighe at 570-457-3502 or [email protected] to register. Study materials will cost $20 per person and all are invited to journey with Bishop Barron to explore the lasting influence of these Pivotal Players.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS—There are NO classes this week due to the Catholic Schools Week Open House at Holy Rosary School. Classes will resume next Sunday at the usual time. Volunteers are needed at Sacred Heart Hall today to make pierogi, so any interested families from our Religious Ed program are more than welcome to come up and help. CANDLEMAS – BLESSED CANDLES The Feast of the Presentation occurs on Thursday of this week, February 2. The custom of the groundhog and his shadow originate from the day’s Feast being a celebration of the Light of Christ entering the Temple. Candles will be blessed at the 7:00 a.m. Mass on Thursday. They will be available at all Masses next weekend, near the Shrine of Our Lady. ST. BLAISE – BLESSING OF THROATS The Feast of Saint Blaise occurs on Friday of this week. Throats will be blessed following the 7:00 a.m. Mass, and from 11:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Throats will also be blessed following Masses next weekend for those who can’t make it on the Feast. HOLY ROSARY SCHOOL GIFT CERTIFICATES The gift certificates that support Holy Rosary and our other Diocesan schools may be purchased on Thursday from 8:00-10:00 a.m. FIRST FRIDAY The First Friday of the month occurs this week. Telephone calls will be made to set up convenient times for the monthly visits. If you or a loved one are in need of a pastoral visit, either for a monthly First Friday call, or just because, please let the rectory staff know. The 9:00 a.m. Mass on First Fridays is open to the public. Holy Rosary School students fullfill the various ministries of the First Friday Mass. Parishioners, grandparents, neighbors and friends are invited to attend the Mass each month, and honor our Lord in his Most Sacred Heart. JUNIOR AND SENIOR CHOIR Both choirs continue singing each week as usual. Rehearsals will continue in a few weeks after a much needed break for our singers after the Christmas Season. If you have ever considered joining, or would like to simply try it out, come upstairs to the loft at any weekend Mass. The Junior Choir sings each week, usually at 9:00 am, while the Seniors sing in small groups at any Mass. Musicians are also welcome anytime. We hope to see you there!
There will be a YOGA SESSION on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Holy Rosary Church Hall. FOOD PREP Today (Sunday) at 10:00 a.m. we will be making pierogi. Rollers, cutters, pinchers, boilers, carriers, flippers, and packers are all needed…no experience is necessary. Many Hands Make Light Work!!
