BASIC USE AND APPLICATIONS ZIP System Roof and Wall sheathing panels are oriented strand board (OSB), wood structural panels with built-in protective overlays that eliminate the need for building wrap or roofing felt. Install the panels, tape the seams with Huber’s ZIP System tape, and the building is rough dried-in. A wide range of roof coverings and wall claddings can be installed directly over ZIP System sheathing.
When used on a wall, ZIP System sheathing functions as a combination wall sheathing, code-recognized water-resistive, and air barrier. The sheathing panel seams are sealed with ZIP System tape, protecting the wall from water intrusion.
When Huber’s ZIP System sheathing is utilized for roof applications, felt underlayment is not required. In wall and roof coverings system requiring multiple layers of water-resistive barriers or underlayment, ZIP System is intended to replace on the first layer.
ZIP System sheathing uses a tough, phenolic resign-impregnated overlay to provide permanent weather resistance, in contact with a proprietary seam tape that has been extensively tested for long-term adhesion and flexibility. This combination meets performance requirements for Grade D weather-resistive barriers in accordance with ICC Acceptance Criteria AC38.
ZIP System sheathing may be used for roofs and walls in Type V construction, in Type III construction as roof sheathing only, and other construction permitted under the International Residential Code.

BASIC USE AND APPLICATIONS ZIP System Liquid Flash is a liquid‐applied flashing membrane use in combination with ZIP System Sheathing to create a continuous air/moisture barrier. ZIP System Liquid Flash is compatible with ZIP System Sheathing’s phenolic resin‐impregnated protective facing, and works in conjunction with ZIP System Tape to permanently flash and seal all building penetrations and panel seams.
ZIP System Liquid Flash loads into a professional sausage‐pack caulking gun and is easily applied to form a resilient, seamless membrane. Intended for use on both commercial and residential buildings, ZIP System Liquid Flash provides great versatility in sealing panel seams and irregular, curved, or hard‐to‐flash areas such as a curved window and door rough openings, through‐wall pipe, conduit, and vent penetrations, and terminations of metal flashings.
ZIP System Liquid Flash transforms ZIP System sheathing into a seamless protective barrier, providing a superior airtight and watertight seal that resists harsh elements. The combination of ZIP System Sheathing and ZIP System Tape or ZIP System Liquid Flash eliminates the need for a separate application of building wrap or roofing felt. Install the sheathing panels, seal the seam with ZIP System Tape or ZIP System Liquid Flash, seal the penetrations with ZIP System Liquid Flash, and the building is permanently weatherized.
ZIP System Liquid Flash Allowable Exposure Period 180 Days
Sealant Composition Single component silyl‐terminated polyether (STPE)
Surface and ambient Application Temperature
Between 35 °F (2 °C) and 110 °F (43 °C)

ADVANTAGES ZIP System Liquid Flash is specifically formulated for compatibility and durability as a component of the ZIP System air/moisture barrier. It is also effective in similar applications utilizing a wide range of sheathing and weather barrier products. Test results for air/moisture assemblies utilizing ZIP System Liquid Flash as a component demonstrate its effectiveness in preventing air infiltration and water penetration at vulnerable barrier penetrations of vents, piping, and conduits as well as transitions from sheathing to adjacent masonry construction.
The result is a superior, reliable, durable seal. ZIP System Liquid Flash displays excellent resistance to deterioration from aging and from weather exposure – a critical need for components of the air/moisture barrier that are not visible and readily renewable. In addition, its elongation accommodates the normal expansion and contraction found in wood construction.
ZIP System Liquid Flash is easy to gun, spread, and tool in harsh and demanding weather conditions. It bonds to damp or dry surfaces and does not need a primer when bonding to the ZIP System panel surface. It becomes opaque when the minimum required thickness achieved, ensuring a good quality control and efficiency.

BASIC USE AND APPLICATIONS ZIP System™ stretch tape is a code-recognized flashing tape that stretches and forms around irregular and difficult to seal areas like window rough openings, curved window heads, and wall and roof penetrations. It is UV radiation resistant and highly effective at sealing up the exterior building envelope. Unlike most other flashing tapes, ZIP System stretch tape is compatible with flexible PVC windows.
ZIP System stretch tape easily stretches to fit difficult to flash areas with a single piece without having to piece tape segments together. This avoids tape seams or joints. ZIP System stretch tape is made of a high-performance composite acrylic adhesive and a strong, yet stretchable, acrylic foam core. The tape conforms to challenging applications and locks out moisture over mismatched surfaces when correctly applied. ZIP System stretch tape can be pulled up and reapplied for easy, fast, and hassle-free installation that provides a tight seal against weather intrusion.
ZIP System stretch tape can be used for a wide range of applications including:
• Window rough opening sill pans.
• Wall penetrations
• Curved window heads
• Cantilevered beams
ADVANTAGES ZIP System stretch tape is a multi-purpose acrylic tape with a robust and aggressive acrylic adhesive. The intertwined polymer chains provide excellent internal strength and durability. The tape’s advanced acrylic adhesive is made of highly polar molecules; the resulting attraction pulls the tape to the ZIP System® panel. This helps the tape wet out and flow into panel ridges and produce a weather tight seal. The strong, yet stretchable, acrylic foam core allows for continuous single-piece flashing around pipes, beams, rough openings and other difficult to flash applications. The ZIP System stretch tape satisfies the requirements of AC148 and AAMA 711-13 as represented in IAPMO ER-365.

Install the panels, tape the seams with ZIP System Tape, and the building is permanently weatherized. ZIP System Tape has four layered components:
• Heat and UV resistant acrylic adhesive that forms a lifetime bond with ZIP System Sheathing overlay
• Bonding layer that permanently joins the acrylic layer to the body of the tape
• Dimensionally stable inner layer of polyolefin that incorporates UV protection and antioxidants that make ZIP System Tape a lifetime product
• Slip resistant surface layer ADVANTAGES ZIP System Tape is a multi-purpose acrylic tape with a robust and aggressive adhesive. The intertwined polymer chains provide excellent internal strength and durability. The tape’s advanced acrylic adhesive is made of highly polar molecules; the resulting attraction pulls the tape into the ZIP System panel. This helps the tape wet out, and flow into panel ridges and produce a permanent bond. The installation satisfies the requirements of AC148 and AAMA 711-13 as represented in ESR-2227. The product’s specially formulated acrylic adhesion forms a superior bond making it a great versatile option to seal a variety of surfaces in all kinds of projects. ZIP System Tape also displays superior elongation, accommodating the normal expansion and contraction found in wood construction.
The use of ZIP System Tape as flashing material is recognized for use on Type V construction under the IBC and non-fire-resistance-rated construction under the IBC and IRC.

SUBSTRATE ZIP System Tape is not considered a substitute for self-adhering
ice and water barrier applications in roofing system; when such
materials are required, provide them in addition to application
of tape.
SUBSTRATE Ensure that the tape substrate is dry and free of frost, dust, dirt, loose fasteners, and other protrusions. Apply tape when ambient air and substrate are above 0 °F (-18 °C).
TAPE INSTALLATION Refer to manufacture’s ZIP System Roof and Wall Sheathing Installation Manual for detailed instructions and illustrations for application of ZIP System Tape to sheathing, flanged windows, brick mould windows and, penetrations openings. Apply tape as
prescribed in ICC-ES ESR-227, ESR-1473, ESR-1474, and ESR-3373. Tape should be covered with a code-complying roof or wall covering within 180 days of installation. ZIP System Tape is a pressure sensitive tape that must be rolled in (ZIP System Tape roller) to achieve maximum bond to the panel.
PANEL SEAMS Apply tape over sheathing joints in manner described in manufacturer’s written instruction, overlapping end joints a minimum of 3-inches (75 mm). Press tape firmly against substrate using a rubber-faced roller until smooth tape conforms tightly to the substrate.
WINDOWS AND PENETRATIONS Apply tape at sheathing penetrations as indicated in tape manufacturer’s written instructions. Apply tape at wall openings in manner described in window or door manufacturer’s written instructions.
