What is Zappi’s Pro Cycling? Zappi’s pro cycling is a development cycling academy based in Oxford. It is managed by ex-professional rider Flavio Zappi. Initially Set up at the end of 2009 on a small budget, the young riders punched above their weight racing at Premier Calendar level in the UK and the equivalent European races. During that season we won 25 races and had over 100 top 5 results, including both the men's and women's British university titles. All of these results culminated in a top 5 position in the National team ranking, which includes all the professional teams in the UK. After a successful season, one Zappi’s women's team rider was given the chance to represent Great Britain, racing around Europe, both on the road and track. In 2012 the team will start a 5 year long plan, with an objective, in the short term, to establish a professionally run academy house. All of our motivated young riders dream to become professional riders racing in the world’s biggest events. We believe through a tried and tested ‘European style’ model a number of our riders can achieve this within 5 years. A separate feeder team, as well as a women's squad and sportive team all help the structure and promotion of the Zappi’s Pro Cycling project. A thriving cycle club has already been established, boasting 150 fully paid up members and 450 Facebook members in its first year. Members are able to buy the team kit and race under the Team Zappi’s name, as well as taking part in club rides and social events.
Zappi is an expert in cycling
Flavio is a former wearer of Green Jersey in the Giro D’Italia and top 20 finisher of Milan San Remo and Paris Roubaix. He has ridden nearly all of cycling's most prestigious events alongside some of cycling's greatest stars. His passion for our great sport is infectious and his knowledge of the art of bike racing is world class. A team can really well directed with someone so driven as Flavio, some one who has been through the same process as our young riders. More recently after some 25 years off the bike, Flavio has made a comeback to racing and has certainly held his own. Gaining his 1st category licence in his first year back is an achievement in its self. In 2011 he has taken on the ever popular sportive events; including the Anthony Maynard 195km Sportive and Blenheim 100 mile Sportive, generating huge interest in the ‘Zappi’s’ brand. He’ll be keeping the team on their toes for sure!

UK cycling in the media Televised races are featured throughout our season (February till September). All our riders are taught interview skills and corporate branded clothing is worn at all team events, both on and off the bike. The Premier Calendar series, for example, has 10 rounds held around the UK, from Salisbury in Wiltshire to Dumfries in Scotland. These events are shown twice weekly on Sky Sports each showing had over 40,000 viewers in 2011. Other key events such as the national championships are televised live for ITV4. National elite circuit series (12 rounds) televised on Sky sports; as well as over 3,000 spectators at each event. The Tour of Britain attracts 4 million spectators per year and is also Televised on ITV and Eurosport . All major cycling news from the UK, and around the world, is published in ‘Cycling Weekly’ which has an ABC of 29,000 copies per week. Team Zappi’s has had lots of coverage to-date and there is obviously much interest for our new project. More than 298,000 people have participated in UK SKY ride events since 2009. These are amateur events that Zappi’s sponsors and partners can also participate in.
Our Plans
We have drawn up a five year plan to fall in line with our mission statement. Over this period we will:
• Start a new academy in the UK, mixing old school theories
and modern technologies
• Develop a UCI Professional cycling team
• Have at least one previous academy rider, racing at
a Pro tour level after 3 years
• Continue to grow an informal club of 500 members
• Run an annual sportive and training camp events
• Establish and grow Zappi’s brand

Our strategy
Whilst we have a 5 year objective, we are purely focussing on 2012 at the moment. Our mission is as follows: Team size: 6 full time cyclists competing in UK and Europe inc. UCI races across
Europe , Foreign national races in Belgium and France and Premier Calendar races.
Costs: Financing to be raised to cover accommodation, food, racing and travel.
Results: Achieve our objectives. Win races! Create high degree of awareness for
sponsors.
Media: Cycling weekly rides and Updates, Procycling feature, Pezcycling online
blog and news, Twitter, Facebook group (450 members), club base of 150 riders.
Future: Build strong foundations for future team development.
