Conditions of MembershipSt John Youth is an inclusive, non-discriminatory organisation. Membership is offered to young people from 6 years up to 18 years of age, based on their ability to participate constructively and to follow the instruction of their St John Youth Leaders.

Cost of BelongingSt John Youth asks parents or caregivers for a donation towards their child belonging. This is a contribution towards the general running costs of attendance (such as stationary, hall hire and badge resources).

The donation requested is $10 per term ($40 per year) for the first family member and $5 per term ($20 per year) for each additional family member.

} We may charge extra activity fees for camps, visits or other activites on a case by case basis

} A uniform contribution of $50 for cadets and $25 for penguins is required before we can issue a uniform

} St John does have funds available to meet costs in cases of hardship.

The Youth DivisionCadets and penguins meet at their local youth division once a week during the school calendar. Youth divisions are where the majority of our programmes and core training are delivered.

Additional OpportunitiesOutside the exciting activities that happen in a division, there are heaps of other activities that happen throughout the year for you to meet new people, learn new things and have loads of fun:

} Overnight stays and camps

} Courses and training workshops

} Fun days and social functions

} Competitions and first aid scenarios

} Adventure activities

} Badgework and discovery

} Drill and formal ceremonies

} Operational events alongside St John Events Personnel

} Travel opportunities and scholarships

} and much more!

Ask your leaders for a copy of your Regional Calendar which lists local activites on offer for you this year!

FACT SHEET

Naturally as a parent or caregiver you will have concerns over the care of your child when they attend any activity outside of your home.

That’s why we have a policy developed by key people within St John and approved by the Department of Child, Youth and Family. The policy outlines all the things we do to ensure the safety and well-being of the young people in St John and includes everything from appropriate conduct to managing hazards effectively.

This page contains important information that you should be aware of as a parent or caregiver. If you would like to see a full copy of the policy, simply ask one of the leaders at your local division.

Our programmes are run by Youth LeadersThese are volunteers who are carefully selected on their suitability and skills in interacting with young people. All leaders go through a robust recruitment process and must meet the requirements of our Child and Youth Protection Policy:

} Initial interview, character references and proof of identity

} Biannual police checks

} Ongoing training in working with young people.

We also have a culture where inappropriate actions and behaviours are openly challenged by other leaders.

A safe environment in all our activitiesActivities outside of the regular meetings at a division such as visits, training, competitions, overnights stays and camps offer a great opportunity for young people to develop and challenge themselves. For this reason we encourage all members to attend and get involved.

As a parent or caregiver it is important to be aware that:

} If you have not been notified of these activities from St John (either directly from a leader or through a newsletter or flyer) then it is not a St John activity

} Young people cannot attend these events without written consent from their parent or caregiver

} Each activity has procedures in place to manage the safety and well-being of participants.

Compulsory reportingLeaders must report any allegations of abuse, misconduct or non-adherance of our Child and Youth Protection Policy. In cases of emergency, this is direct to the police or CYFS.

BullyingBullying can take many forms (physical, verbal and emotional) and St John Youth has a zero tolerance on all forms of bullying
