The greatest fear of all is that one day our faith will fall so low, we find ourselves in a true spiritual crisis. We, just like the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), need to continuously ask Allah (SWT) to guide us and keep us on the straight path. We need to realize that a crisis in this lowly world is nothing in comparison to a crisis in the next and eternal world. Israa’ literally trans- lates to a journey traveled by night, and Mi’raj refers to a device that is used to lift, or elevate something. Islamically, Israa’ was the journey that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) undertook within a single night, during which he traveled from Makka to Jerusalem, and from there ascended to Paradise from the seven heavens on the buraq (hence the term Mi’raj makes its appearance). This journey was a miraculous one: the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) rode on an animal from Paradise (the buraq), he met with previous Prophets (Peace and Blessings be upon them), he witnessed the people of Paradise and Hell, and he spoke with Allah (SWT). This a very significant jour - ney that took place during Prophethood. FITNESS: Zumba/Yoga with Maysoon Yassin South Level 5 S501 WORKSHOP: Custom PC Builds with Ibrahim El-Natour North Level 2 N227

1:30 PM - 2:30 PM INSPIRATIONS FROM PROPHET MUHAMMAD’S (PBUH) JOURNEY OF ASCENSION – ISRAA’ AND MI’RAJ Speaker(s): Suhaib WebbSouth Level 1 S100B “Blessed is the One who took His Servant during part of the night on a journey from Masjid Al-Haram to Masjid Al-Aqsa, whose precincts we did bless” [Quran 17:1] The Journey of Israa’ and Mi’raj was a very powerful and spiritual experience for the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). 14th MAS-ICNA ANNUAL CONVENTION

December, 26-28 2015

2:30 PM - 3:00 PM BREAK: Asr Prayer for locals will be held at the Prayer Area in Hall B at 2:50 PM.

3:00 PM - 3:45 PM “OH ALLAH, FORGIVE MY PEOPLE, FOR THEY DO NOT KNOW.” PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PBUH) Speaker(s): Omar Suleiman *Joint Young Professionals and Youth Session: South Level 4 Vista Room S406 The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “O Allah, forgive my people, for they do not know.” It is impossible to imagine that someone could show high character and morals at all times, especially in the face of their enemies. But the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) always did, and there’s something very valuable here for us to learn.

4:00 PM - 4:45 PM WHEN DIFFICULTY STRIKES Speaker(s): Farhan Abdul Azeez *Joint Young Professionals and Youth Session: South Level 4 Vista Room S406 Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “the Angel of the Mountains greeted me, and said, ‘O Muhammad, or-der what you wish. If you like, I will let the mountains fall on them.’” The Prophet said, “‘No, I hope that Allah will bring from their descendants people who will worship Allah alone without associating partners with Him.’” [Bukhari and Muslim] Difficult times are part of Allah (SWT)’s Laws in this universe. They are part of the tests that people go through in their daily lives. Even though these trials seem so tough and maybe evil, they are not. A difficulty we go through could be a learning experience, a reminder, purifi-cation from sins and mistakes, a test of patience and diligence, or all of these together. Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the perfect example of what to do when a difficulty strikes. His trip to the city of Taif is one of many examples of those tough times. He traveled, walking, for over fifty miles to deliver his message to the people of Taif and ask for their support. Not only did they disbelieve in him, mock him, and let him down, but they also asked their slaves and children to throw stones at him for a few miles until his sandals turned red from his bleeding. We tend to want to cut off all that got into our way when difficulty strikes, but our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had patience. Maybe our actions can be a form of a calling to Islam. From this horrible situation in his life along with the death of many of his companions, the death of his uncle, and the death of his wife, he (PBUH) stood strong.

10:00 AM - 11:15 AM HIDDEN BEAUTY Speaker(s): Imran Salha and Muslema PurmulSouth Level 1 S100B Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) once said, “Shyness does not bring anything except good.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim] Haya’, or modesty, is a sense of morality that prevents one from committing actions that are dis-pleasing to Allah (SWT). It is beyond just a mere description of how one’s outer appearance should be: it is a complete embodiment of an individual. It is the way in which he or she acts, it is the manner in which he or she presents themselves, it is the manner in which he or she interacts with others. Modesty is entwined with faith, and if it is absent, faith itself can also be absent.

11:30 AM – 12:45 PM LIKE EARLY CONVERTS, ADOPTING ISLAM BY CHOICE Speaker(s): Suleiman Salem and Majed Mahmoud South Level 1 S100B

“And who is better in speech than one who invites to Allah and does righteousness and says, “Indeed, I am of the Muslims.”” [Quran 41:33]The greater majority of us were born into a Muslim family. Although that is a GREAT blessing from Allah (SWT), sometimes it leaves us unaware of the true meaning behind being a Muslim. Praying, fasting, and worshipping Allah (SWT) because your parents told you it’s what you should do, is not a good enough reason. Not only do we need to understand what it means to be a Muslim, but we need to learn how to be one, for the sake of The One.

1:30 PM - 2:30 PM HELL AND PARADISE ARE REAL, BUT ARE THEY REAL TO US? Speaker(s): Imad Bayoun Joint Young Professionals and Youth Session: South Level 4 Vista Room S406 “...then fear the Fire, whose fuel is men and stones...” [Quran 2:24] In a society full of optimism and positivity, it seems the agenda has put an extraneous amount of emphasis into mercy and paradise. hell has become something that is not real or tangible in the hearts of Muslims anymore. Hell is real, but is it real to us? The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the Sahabah (may Allah be pleased with them) used to fear it as if it was in front of their eyes. What is the reality of hellfire? How can we strike a balance between earning paradise and fearing the hell fire?

14th MAS-ICNA ANNUAL CONVENTION

December, 26-28 2015

3:00 PM - 3:45 PM DEFINING SUCCESS Speaker(s): Dalia Fahmy and Dalia Mogahed Joint Young Professionals and Youth Session: South Level 4 Vista Room S406

“Turn to Allah every one of you, believers, so that hopefully you will have success.” [Quran 24:31] Throughout life, different perceptions and standards of “success” are constantly being thrown our way. Our parents, friends, work and school environments barrade us with talk of owning a big house, making a lot of money, or having a prestigious job. And while we chase these shadows hoping for satisfaction, our Creator urges us to rethink what makes an individual successful and what makes them a “loser”. Through His Wisdom, we see that whomever we perceive as a successful person may in fact be the biggest loser.

4:00 PM - 4:45 PM THE HIGHS, DESPITE THE LOWS Speaker(s): Nouman Ali KhanJoint Young Professionals and Youth Session: South Level 4 Vista Room S406 “Or do you think that you will enter Paradise while such [trial] has not yet come to you as came to those who passed on before you? They were touched by poverty and hardship and were shaken until [even their] messenger and those who believed with him said,”When is the help of Allah?” Unquestionably, the help of Allah is near” [Quran 2:214] Life’s a roller coaster. It seems easy to hold onto faith during times of ease and be pleased with Allah but the occurrence of trials and tests can make it difficult to keep the same amount of faith. How does one go about keeping their Iman high in a spiritual sense in times of difficulty? Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) went through the toughest times and had a solidity of faith going through these trials. How does one practically get to this level of understanding and even satisfaction during times of difficulty?

10:00 AM – 11:15 AM THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS Speaker(s): Majed Mahmoud and Siraj Wahhaj *Joint Young Professionals and Youth Session: South Level 4 Vista Room S406 “Those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah), and have done righteous deeds, happiness is for them and a beautiful place of (final) return.” [Quran 13:29] We all want to be happy: the rich and the poor, the old and the young, everyone. But what IS happiness? What does it look like in this lowly world? We all know (from personal experience), that happiness is something that comes and goes and not something that can be easily achieved or bought. So if we can’t buy it how do we attain it?

11:30 AM – 12:45 PM THE WEIGHT OF SINNING Speaker(s): Mohamed Abutaleb and Altaf HusainSouth Level 1 S100B “But those who committed evil deeds and then repented afterwards and believed, verily, your Lord after (all) that is indeed Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” [Quran 7:156] All humans are sinners, even the people we look up to. We all sin. It’s a stated fact. But what is the effect of sinning on our soul? How does it change us? If we all sin why are some of us more affected by it than others? And is there a way to stop sinning all together? The prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that the best of sinners are those who repent. But, in this life, what happens to the soul of the one who does not repent?

Physically, we can go to the doctor and get our heart checked, but how do we know if our heart is not spiritually sound? What are the diseases of the hearts? And what is the prescription to heal it?

2:30 PM - 3:00 PM BREAK: Asr Prayer for locals will be held at the Prayer Area in Hall B at 2:50 PM.

3:00 PM - 3:45 PM “I’VE ACCEPTED ALLAH AS MY LORD” - PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PBUH) Speaker(s): Yasmin MogahedSouth Level 1 S100B Anas bin Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “If the son of Adam had a valley full of gold, he would like to have two valleys for nothing fills his mouth except dust. Allah will forgive whoever repents to Him.” [Muslim] This life is never what we expect it to be, and sometimes it’s not enough. We find ourselves constantly wanting more, and we refuse to be happy until we get more. We find ourselves constantly chasing after this worldly life seeking joy, as we forget all the warnings we have had about it destroying our happiness.

And if you are patient and keep your duty -- this is surely a matter of great resolution.” [Quran 3:185] Living in a non-Muslim society we are constantly being bombarded by questions from all directions: the one seeking knowledge, the curious, the ignorant, and the prejudiced. How do we respond when we know the questioner’s intentions are to back us into a corner? How do we respond when they ask about the controversial topics? Is it our responsibility to know all the answers?
