STATELINE

Page 2: YFC Stateline Booklet

We all love a great story, don’t we? Think about it: all of your favorite movies, songs and books capture you with stories of love, wonder, heroism, redemption, adventure, or inspiration. Chances are, the thing that made you love that story wasn’t the ink on the paper or the angle of the camera shot. You loved it because of your personal connection with the story. You found yourself there, in the moment, with the character in the conflict, empathizing in their struggle. It is in this moment, at the pivotal point in the story where character and conflict come head to head, that powerful emotions manifest themselves within us. It is at this point that we cheer, cry, yell, or stand because we have been moved. Great stories move us.

Here is the bottom line. We love stories because we live in stories, we think in stories, and we create stories because we intuitively know that our life is a grand story. Everybody wants a great story. However, many young people today feel

that isn’t possible. They think great stories are for the movies and real life is meant for tragedy. As a byproduct of this faulty thinking, young people lose their sense of hope, wonder, and eventually love for life. The truth is many young people have stories of pain, regret, rejection, broken lives, troubled pasts, abuse…stories that leave them feeling hopeless and purposeless. As they look at the reality of their story, why would they believe their future story would be any different than their past or present story?

What so many students see as a final chapter in their story, Stateline YFC sees as a turning point; a moment where crisis becomes the climax moment for something greater. There is a different way; a better way. Our story doesn’t have to end in sadness or hopelessness because there is a Storyteller who is an amazing author of new stories. He tells the greatest story ever told…the story of a Creator who loves us and sent His Son to rescue us from our stories of tragedy.

This Storyteller can rewrite or renew stories to bring life and hope to them. In His story, He uses our brokenness as a catalyst to find a new sense of meaning, fulfillment, and opportunity.

This is the work of Stateline YFC. We want to bring life to young people’s stories. We want to see hope brought to stories of regret. We want to see redemption brought to stories of tragedy. We want to see purpose brought to stories of hopelessness. All of this is possible when we link arms as a community to bring life to the individual stories of our students. When a student gets hope and life, something amazing happens.

Not only does their story change, but also the story of our community begins to change. Hope and life spread. They are contagious. Why? Because we all love a great story and want to be a part of one!

So join us in bringing life to stories in the Stateline area!

Every day in our region, Stateline YFC staff and volunteers are at work building the ministry and programs of YFC. That work is all done through community partnerships and relationships. We share our story, learn the story of others, and center everything on God’s story.

OUR MISSIONStateline Youth for Christ reaches young people everywhere, working together with the local church, schools, and oth-er like-minded partners to reach at-risk youth through mentoring, tutoring, healthy relationships, and creative programming. Our goal is bring life to each student’s individual story so they can see hope in their social, academic, personal, and spiritual lives.

Campus Life ministry combines healthy relationships with creative programs to help young people make good choices, establish a solid foundation for life, and positively impact their schools. Campus Life provides a balanced approach to life; meetingstudents where they are mentally, physically, spiritually and socially. TUTORING

CLUB

Tutoring Club is an outreach program to “at risk” kids in grades K though 5 who are at a disadvantage academically, economically, socially, and/or spiritually.• Clubs meet weekly during the school year• Students receive FREE one-on-one tutoring • Students share a meal with their tutor on

club night• Students are introduced to basic Christian

values and are given an opportunity to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ

• It connects the local church with needy families with the potential to further reach out to those in need

(according to Rock Valley College)

According to a study by MIT, 67% of students who are incarcerated as a teen will end up in jail by the age of 25. • What if it didn’t have to be that way? • What if every student in our local detention

center had the opportunity to be partnered with a mentor after they’re released.

• What if they were taught life skills, had internships, and opportunities for a better life?

We don’t have to share statistics that let you know that teen suicide, dropout, substance abuse, and teen pregnancy rates are at all time highs.• What if Rockford had a safe place where

every student could find help and hope, no questions asked?

• What if there was a loving, caring, trained team of adults who could help students in crisis?

WHAT IF?

There are thousands of high school students in this region. The majority of these students do not have a relationship with Jesus.• What if in every high school and middle school there was a core group of

students and leaders committed to not only following Jesus, but also showing his love?

• What if there were easily accessible and safe clubs for students to come to throughout the region to talk about life, culture, and God?
