What is Yellow Fever?
Yellow fever, also known as Black Vomit, Yellow Jack or An American Plague, is a deadly viral infection transmitted by several species of Aedes and Haemogus mosquitoes.
Where is it usually found?
The CDC has identified 45 counties with a risk of yellow fever transmission, many of them with tropical climates such as parts of South America and Africa.
Is there a cure?
There is no specific cure for yellow fever. Typically, patients are treated for dehydration and fever with rehydration salts.
Intensive care is needed to improve the outcome for seriously ill patients.
How can we prevent it?

Making Connections
The connections between yellow fever,”An American plague” and “Fever 1793” are: They did bloodletting, 10 and 10 and poisonous root to prevent yellow fever but now there is a vaccine for it.
The books are talking about the epidemic of yellow fever in the United States but now it doesn’t exist there.
Interesting Facts!
There are approximately 200,000 cases of yellow fever, resulting in 30,000 deaths, each year in tropical endemic areas of Africa and the Americas.
Yellow Fever and Dengue are caused by the same types of mosquitoes.
Once someone is infected, the virus remains silent in the body during an incubation period of three to six days.
