Independent Learning

Guidance

At Ark Boulton, we are dedicated to helping our young people to develop a love

of learning and to providing students with the necessary skills and knowledge

needed to reach the career of their choice. The daily independent learning

programme at Ark Boulton will help to equip our students to develop vital

study skills needed to be successful during their time at the Academy and

beyond. Furthermore, all independent learning activities are based on

knowledge retrieval from the previous year- a strategy which has been shown

by numerous researchers to significantly improve student learning.

What does my child need to do to complete their independent learning?

This booklet has different 30 minute independent learning tasks for all

subjects for the first half term. Every subject has created a different task each

week to recall learning from the previous school year or topic. Students will be

informed by their subject teachers as to which day their homework will need to

be handed in. All tasks need to be completed in the back of their subject

exercise books or on a task sheet which will then be glued in to the back of

their books. It is the student’s responsibility to be organised and take their

subject books home on the appropriate day of the week. The independent

learning booklets can also be found on the school website for easy access to

any tasks with internet links.

How do I support my child with their independent learning?

As well as supporting your child by providing a quiet space for them to

complete their independent learning, please carry out a daily check on the

quality of the work that your son/ daughter has produced and sign in the

appropriate place. If you are in any doubt that the presentation or detail of the

work is not up to standard, do not hesitate to advise your child to reattempt

the task.

We thank you for your continued support regarding independent learning.

Should you have any questions please feel free to contact your child’s Form

Tutor or Achievement Leader.

Think back over your Drama Lessons

in Year 7. Which was your favourite

performance? This should be the

performance that you were most

proud of.

Make a poster for your performance. Your

poster must include the name of the

performance, the room in which the

performance took place, the date and the

time. (If you can’t remember these details,

you can make them up!) Your poster should

be colourful and include an eye catching

design. You must also include the names of

performers that were starring in the

performance and what role they played. You

Week 2

Different types of audiences.

Different arts events have different types of audiences and

different ways for audiences to behave. For example, an audience

at rock festival may be noisy and dance and cheer, whereas an

audience at a classical concert will sit in complete silence to

appreciate the complexity of the music.

What are the differences between an

audience in a cinema and the audience in a

theatre?

Write a paragraph that describes three ways that you

think these two different types of audience will

behave differently and why.

Sentence starters:

An audience attending a theatre performance will

be…

This is different for a cinema audience who may …

This is because ….

Remember to write about three ways that

these audiences’ behaviours will be different.

French Week 4:

‘Aller’ is an irregular and important verb in French. ‘Irregular’

means that it is not conjugated following a regular pattern. Here is

the way it is conjugated.

Go to Youtube and watch the video several times:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4ktRrWUzCw

From memory, write out the conjugated form of the verb.

J’______ Nous ________

Tu _____ Vous _______

Il ____ Ils_____

Elle ____ Elles _____

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qldscL5R3s4

From last lesson you have noticed that some French places have ‘à

la’ in front of the place, some have ‘au’, some have ‘à l’…’ and some

have ‘aux.’

‘a la’ = for those places that are feminine and have ‘la’ in front

‘au’ = for those places that are masculine and have ‘le’ in front. (à +

le = au)

‘aux’ = for those places that are plural

‘à l’…’ = for those places that begin with a vowel

Now it’s your turn to translate the following sentences.

I go to the swimming pool.

Je vais au restaurant.

Use the information and websites below to help you complete the tasks

Christians believe that the Trinity is God is three-in-one or in three persons; the

Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Although lots of Christians believe in the

Doctrine of the Trinity some admit they don't fully understand it, and some that

think they understand it are still confused about it. However, the Trinity is an

important belief for Christians because it allows them to understand God in different

ways; the varying nature of God and get closer to God.

Religious Studies Week 2: Jesus' parables and miracles:

Use the information and websites below to help you complete the tasks below.

Christians believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and believe that both the miracles performed and

parables told by Jesus prove this; they demonstrate both Jesus' omnipotence, omnibenevolence

and omniscience.

Jesus showed lots of Courage whilst He lived, but especially when performing his miracles and

parables at a time when the Jewish authorities were skeptical (unsure) and quite worried about

His claim to be the King of the Jews (the Son of God). Throughout His life, Jesus was questioned

and critiqued on His claim to be the Son of God and the Jewish authorities were plotting to stop

Him because He was convincing many Jewish people to follow Him.

Throughout his life Jesus demonstrated many virtues, but perhaps most can be seen through his

actions, specifically the miracles He performed and parables He told. Although He was very

courageous He demonstrated many virtues; for example, He did not succumb to the Devil's

temptations (whilst He was fasting) and didn't leave those who were suffering to continue

suffering.

Some websites which will help you are:

https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/learner-english/

5. What other Virtues did Jesus demonstrate because he was courageous?

Think: What did His parables and miracles do or teach? What was the impact of His

miracles or parables?

eventually devoted his life to living the 'middle way'. Buddhists believe that one day, seated

beneath the Bodhi tree (the tree of awakening), Siddhartha became deeply absorbed in meditation

and reflected on his experience of life until he became enlightened.
