Year 7 Curriculum Overview
Curriculum Delivery
The school operates a 25 hour teaching week. Additional learning opportunities are
provided after school at KS4 and 5 primarily.
The Year 7 Curriculum is a combination of a wide range of the subject areas. They are
English, History, Geography, RE, Computing, Mathematics, Science, Spanish, Music, Dance,
Drama, Art & Design and PE.
Three subject blocks exist within each band. A Maths, Computing and Science block, a
Geography, History, Modern Foreign Languages, Religious Education and ICT block as well as
a block of subjects taught in mixed ability form groups. The form block contains Physical
Education, Music, Dance, Drama and Art.
In addition to these subject areas a small focused group of students will be withdrawn for
extra literacy and mathematical support.
All core subject lessons are taught by are taught by subject specialists. Only a very small
number of foundation subject lessons are taught by non‐specialist teachers.
The balance of lessons is orientated so that English receives the greatest number of lessons
followed closely by mathematics, Science and Languages (Spanish).
The school also operates a class within each of the two bands in Year 7 that follow the
international CLIL project. This delivery of wider subject matter through another language is
part of Broughton Hall’s commitment to the challenge for our most able students and
escellence in Modern Foreign Languages.
