Week commencing: 06.07.2020
Daily – do these every day.
Reading: Make sure you read for a minimum of 15 minutes each day. It can be your reading book or a book
from home which you have chosen. Record this in your Learning Log. If your child finds the book a
challenge, re-read to ensure they are confident and fluent.
If you have read the reading books provided by school, Oxford Owl has a collection of free e-books you
can read. Parents will need to sign up and can then access the e-library. Please choose the level (Oxford
level) your child is working at. This can be found on the back of their current reading books.

Phonics: Practise all learned sounds from set 2 and 3 for a minimum of 15 minutes per day. Please refer to
page 28/29 in the Learning Log and concentrate on sounds your child finds more challenging to build their
confidence.

Year 1/2 Spellings:
Make sure you can spell all of the words in the Year 1/2 list.

You can almost feel like you are there. Questions to ask: Do you like this art? Why? Why not? How does it make you feel?
Activity: Can you create your own Turner-Style artwork? You could look to the sky on a cloudy day and do a picture to express what the weather is like. Sketch it first and then add colour based on how you feel, you could use paint (especially watercolour), chalk, colouring pencils or colouring pens. You could even use pencils and shade by rubbing your finger on the pencil.

Craft Weaving fun! Weaving is a simple but fun way to create many things. The up and over technique is great to learn before you move onto tackling sewing later on. There are many examples below of how to have a go. PE Virtual Sports Day. As we can’t have a traditional Sports Day at school this term, let’s have one virtually. See below for the activities and points allocated. Please send your points earnt for each event to your teacher by Friday 10th July. Certificates will be given to the children with the most points for each event per class. All points will go towards your house’s total. The winning house will be announced in the last newsletter.
1) Standing Long Jump
• Starting standing with two feet on the floor. Jump as
far as you can. Measure how far you jumped. Measure
from your starting point to the most backward part of
your body.
2) Speed bounce
• Find a cone or shoe. Get an adult to time a minute.

3) Target throw
• At home: lay three half sheets of newspaper on the
ground roughly 2m, 4m and 6m from a starting point.
Stand at the starting point and throw balled socks onto
the newspapers. Best score out of three goes on the
score sheet. 1 point for 2m 2 points for 4m and 3
points for 6m
4) Jog/bike/scooter-athon
• For every 100m you travel either walking, jogging,
biking or scootering have a point!
5) Egg and Spoon Rely
• Measure out 10m (if short on space you may need to
do more laps!) Choose a spoon and potato. Put the
potato on the spoon and see how many 10m runs you
can do in 3 minutes. Remember a run only counts if
the potato stays on the spoon!

Science 1. How is your bean or seed getting on? Make sure your bean
diary is up to date. What would happen if your bean or seed
did not have enough light?
2. Make a meal for your family.
This could be something as simple as making a sandwich for a
family member or more complicated like cooking a main meal for
the whole family (remember to ask for help with anything like
sharp knives and hot ovens). What ingredients go into making that
meal? Find out where each of these ingredients come from. Can
you find out how and where they were produced (made)?
PSHE There has been a lot of talk about ‘heroes’ over the past few months. I’d like you to think about what it takes to be a hero. Does it take extraordinary powers only seen in cartoons? Can a ‘hero’ simply be someone who does something good for someone else? Or does it need to be more than that? Can you think of someone who you think deserves to be called a hero? They can be famous, but they don’t have to be – they could be someone you know. Draw a picture of them doing what it is you think they are a hero for. Then explain why they are a hero underneath. You could even design a special medal for them and give it to them (or send it to them if they are someone famous). You’ll find a medal template at the end of this document.

Function of a sentence: the purpose behind what is written/said.
Command: sentences that tell you to do something
Questions: sentences that ask you something.
Statements: a sentences that tells you something.
Exclamation: a sentence that shows a sudden action or emotion e.g. shock,
pain, surprise.
Activity – draw a line from each sentence to the correct function.
Different sentences use different punctuation marks.
Exclamations = exclamation marks
