VOCATIONAL EDUCATION & TRAINING CELEBRATION ASSEMBLY
It is my pleasure today to acknowledge two of our former scholars, both of whom participated in the College’s VET Program.
Tori Wilmot graduated from our College in 2014 and during her time at the College was a very hard-working and committed member of our school. In 2013, at Year 11, Tori studied for 6 months for the Certificate II in Community Services and then decided to change and take up a School Based Apprenticeship working through a Certificate III & IV in Disability at CARA Woodville. Last year while in Year 12, Tori continued her studies for her qualifications in Disability with CARA as part of the School Based Apprenticeship Program, she also worked in this area. This year, Tori has been working full-time as a Community Support worker at CARA, Oaklands Park. She has taken time off from work earlier this year and travelled overseas to relax and do the touristy thing, (spend money). Tori is planning to go to University and study Teaching - Majoring in Special Education, to work with young people who have Disabilities. In July this year, Tori was the recipient of The Australian Vocational Student Prize, which recognises students who have demonstrated outstanding skills while completing vocational training in senior secondary years. Five hundred prizes of a certificate and $2000, are available nationally each year. Mrs Prue Wilkosz nominated Tori as a worthy recipient and we congratulate Tori.
Our second former scholar we wish to recognise is Josh Barrett. Josh Barratt graduated from our College in 2014 and during his time at the College was regarded as a very capable sportsman which he built upon to forge a career direction. Josh was in the VET program in Year 11 where he completed a Certificate II in Sport and Recreation at Hamilton College. Last Year in Year 12 Josh completed a Certificate III in Sport and Recreation and was part of the School Based Apprenticeship Program where he did his traineeship with Appleton Sport through the AFL Sports Ready Program. Josh is now employed full-time at Our Lady of Grace School at Glengowrie as a Coordinator of Sports. He is also studying for his Certificate IV in Sport and Recreation. Josh’s future direction is to work in the Management field - in the Sporting Industry. He is also looking at some university study. Josh was also a recipient of The Australian Vocational Student Prize for 2014 and had demonstrated outstanding skills while completing vocational training in his senior secondary years. Mrs Prue Wilkosz nominated Josh as a worthy recipient and we congratulate Josh.
The final part of our VET Department celebration involves us recognising our current Year 12 students who will by the end of the year, achieve a full or partial certificate in their chosen field. Many of these students are now actively looking for

SA University Visits On Monday 7th September Ms Robyn Sutherland, Dre Ngatokorua, Leona Fatt Clifton and I were lucky enough to visit all three SA university campuses. We heard some inspiring stories from students and also learnt of the great support offered to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. It was made more special by the fact that at Flinders Uni old scholar Kirstie Salter spoke to us and took us on a tour of the new building developments and at Adelaide Uni, old scholar Louise Mitchell also spoke to us and gave us some great information and AU freebies. UniSA were equally welcoming and on the tour took us into their moot court as well as their design and 3D printing facilities. It was a great opportunity to get a feel for campus life and to see the wonderful facilities offered at each of the universities. Mrs Prue Wilkosz Pathways Coordinator

TAFE SA Justice and Policing Studies Study Pathways: Paralegal (including pathway to Adelaide University Law school)
Conveyancing
Police & Law Enforcement
Paralegal: the Certificate IV in Legal Services (SATAC Code 701039 for face to face students and 701408 for online) is a one year course (longer part time) that is available by attendance or externally. There are excellent career prospects as a legal secretary, legal assistant or law clerk in law firms and justice agencies. Experienced paralegals are well paid. A significant proportion of students in this course are already working in law firms or justice agencies. This Certificate articulates directly into the Diploma of Legal Services. As almost all Diploma students are working in law firms the Diploma is part time, structured and paced with full time employees in mind. Diploma Graduates will be able to gain entry to Adelaide University Law School with some credits towards the law degree. There are now three law schools in SA which makes for an extremely competitive job market for new lawyers. The TAFE pathway to a professional legal career is worth considering because the practical training involved and relevant job experience in a law firm along the way could provide the edge to actually get a job as a lawyer.
Conveyancing: Students interested in careers related to the legal system could also consider the study and career pathway for Conveyancing. The Advanced Diploma of Conveyancing (attendance course SATAC Code 901316 or external course SATAC Code 901316) is a two year part-time course available by attendance or externally. The Torrens land titling system in use in SA is world best practice and requires diligence, attention to detail and skill. This qualification focuses on the development of legal knowledge and skills including those required for working in a conveyancing environment, reviewing and preparing documents and taking the file to settlement. This course will provide the students with the skills necessary for practical and clerical functions in the conveyancing industry. They will be able to seek employment as a conveyancing clerk, or in positions associated with conveyancing in the Land Titles Office, a financial institution or legal firm. Completion of the Advanced Diploma of Conveyancing satisfies Consumer and Business Affairs licencing requirements enabling students to become a registered Conveyancer and possibly establish their own business. Students who complete the Diploma currently enjoy generous credit recognition should they gain entry to the Bachelor of Government and Public Management at Flinders University.
Police: the Certificate III in Police Studies was designed by TAFE SA in collaboration with SAPOL as preparation for a career in policing. This 9 unit course runs as a semester length course (longer part time) either as an attendance course (SATAC Code 601319) or an online course (SATAC Code 601341). The course is delivered by a team of lecturers comprising lawyers and former senior police officers with extensive police training and policing experience. Participants receive extensive advice on the personal development and preparation required for successful recruitment into SA Police.

There’s plenty of info on it as well as information on what could be going on if it’s something more serious. http://au.reachout.com/tough-times/somethings-not-right/stress-and-anxiety Beating exam stress http://au.reachout.com/beating-exam-stress
