Hallam Senior College in association with Bowens the Builders Choice are proud to be associated with a community-based
project at Myuna Farm in the City of Casey.
As part of their VCAL studies in the Building and Construction specialised program, 15-year 12 students constructed three
chicken coups for the farm. These are not your usual chicken coup as they are 3.6m long, housing an enclosed nesting, and
breading area. With the volume of timber and materials required being substantial, Bowens the Builders Choice, through
their generosity, donated ALL the materials ensuring the only thing the students were required to do was to construct
them.
In keeping with the community theme, the students through the use of portable powered and air equipment such as drop
daws, electric planners and nailing guns produced the three coups to reflect industry standards .During construction
students also had to adhere to strict OHS standards and not compromise safety at the expense of production.
This wonderful opportunity, which incorporates work placement, charity and a sense of well-being enables students to
make a valuable community contribution as well as enhancing their own career goals. To date almost ALL of the 2017
students have secured employment including apprenticeships on completion of their year 12 schooling.
This project would not have succeeded without the assistance of Bowens the Builders Choice and we look forward to a
continued relationship in 2018 where further community projects can be undertaken.

We can help you plan for the NDIS
We can help you be ready for your NDIS planning meeting by teaching you skills in how to speak up for yourself and support you to imagine a better future.
If you are not eligible for the NDIS, chat to us anyway to see how we can assist. If the NDIS is not yet in your area, we can help you to plan and be prepared for when it is. Who are we?
Our passion to ‘achieve a good life for all’ was ignited in 1987. In three decades we have learnt much from our experience of working with people who face disadvantage and vulnerability. Our aim is to assist people who want to build their capacity, their quality of life, and importantly expand their connection with community.
We operate as part of the wider UnitingCare Australia network which provides social services to over 2 million people each year in 1,600 sites in remote, rural and metropolitan Australia
