We know this is a significant time in their lives as they transition to high school. We wish them all the best! This month we also look forward to participating in Jump Rope for Heart and track and field events. Throughout the school year, our students have been involved in many opportunities both within and outside of the school. We continue to be so proud of the way in which they demonstrate respect and leadership. We always receive positive feedback about our students, staff and school. The deadline to complete the survey for parents/guardians has been

extended to June 6th. You can complete the survey:

SchoolClimateParent2014.

Paper copies are available through the school in English and other

languages as requested.

The surveys provide the Board and our school with valuable informa-tion about how you feel about the school environment and your child’s education. The results will be used to identify areas that need to be addressed, monitor progress and plan strategies to support student achievement and well-being. We value parent input and encourage you to complete the survey. The information parents provide will be anonymous, considered confidential and kept in strict accordance with all relevant legislation. Please contact the school if

you have any questions.

Moving?

If you are planning to move prior to the beginning of September 2014, please let the office know as soon as possible. We are in the proc-ess of planning for next year and this information is extremely helpful when we make projections regarding student numbers. Also, if you know of anyone in the neighbourhood whose child was born in 2010, please remind them to come into the school as soon as possible to

register for Junior Kindergarten.

Student Medication

If your child has medication in the school office, please ar-range to pick it up on Thursday, June 26th or Friday, June

27th.

Lunch School Assistants

Thank you to our School Assistants who come in every lunch hour to supervise students. They do a great job and we really appreciate

their commitment to our school!

If you are interested in a paid position supervising stu-dents during lunch time beginning in September please

contact Mrs. Cranney.

News From the Library

Our library collection has continued to grow over the 2013-2014 school year. We have added over 1700 new books to the library this year! This has been done through the recommendations of our staff and students and the various opportunities to purchase newly published materials that would support the work being done in our classrooms. Our library has also benefitted from numerous donations from our community, the sup-port of our school council and the funds raised through our Scholastic Book Fairs. Students are enjoying having the opportunity to take out

our newest resources!

Joint Spring Concert

The Intermediate Band held a successful joint Spring Concert with Oscar Peterson on May 28th. The students worked very hard this year with Mr. Alexander and amazed parents and staff with a very moving perform-

ance. Congratulations on a successful and inspiring concert.

Bike to School Day

To coincide with Bike Month (May 26 to June 26) in York Region and in other regions throughout Ontario, the York Region District School Board is promoting Bike to School Day or Wheel Wednesday. We are encour-aging students, staff, parents and the community to bike or wheel to

school on Wednesday June 11.

June Eco Theme (Everything in its Place)

As we approach the end of the school year it is a good time to remind students to keep the 4R’s in mind when cleaning up and to be sure to “put everything in its place”. We encourage students and staff as they move into the summer months to Rethink their disposal options and

place items in the correct bins.

Bicycle & Helmet Safety—Did you know?

Cycling is the most popular outdoor activity among young Cana-dians; unfortunately, every year 50,000 children are seriously injured in bike related mishaps

Wearing a certified helmet can reduce the risk of serious head injuries by 85%

Children and youth (under 18) are required by law to wear a helmet with the chin strap clip fastened under the chin when cycling

Head injuries are the #1 cause of serious injury and death to kids on wheels — a helmet could save your child's life

Kids imitate their parents, 98% of children will wear their helmets if their parents do. Wear one every time you ride

Before age 10, most children do not have the skills to cycle safely on the road; they need help to make good choices

Children under 9 years should cycle with responsible adults at all times

A new location has opened up in Stouffville. The po-lice station is at 111 Sandiford Dr., in the same building as the Town of Whitchurch Stouffville. The entrance is located closer to the TEVA fields, which can be accessed from the east end of the park-ing lot. You can reach the local office by calling (905) 881-1221 ex. 7501 and they are open Mon-day-Friday from 10am-6pm.
