3.E.O. News August 28, 2015

Happy Friday 3.E.O. family! We had a wonderful week! We are getting into the groove of 3rd grade and having lots of fun! Many of our caterpillars are in their chrysalises and we are eagerly awaiting our beautiful butterflies. This process has been so fun to watch! The kids are full of excitement and are learning so much at the same time.

We did a practice word sort this week and will do one more week of practicing the word sort. Because of technical difficulties, we were unable to take our initial spelling pre-test and plan do that next week!

We finished up our first round of MAP testing this week and I couldn’t be more proud of the kiddos. They took their time and tried their hardest…that’s all I can ask!

Weekly Recap & Looking Ahead

Math- We started our first unit and we are taking things slow to make sure we have a good understanding of the concepts. This math series gets rolling pretty quickly and I want to make sure we have our concepts before we start cruising! We will continue unit 1 next week! I look forward to hearing all of the great math strategies the kids have learned! Reading- We participated in a stamina challenge with the other 3rd grade classes this week. We worked on building our reading stamina. We also explored non-fiction texts and learned about text features in non-fiction texts. We will continue exploring non-fiction

Writing- We started generating ideas for our writing and talked about the writing process. We will jump right into our first writing piece next week- a see-saw memoir! I’m so excited to work with the kids and learn about them as writers! Science- We learned all about butterflies this week and started learning about plant parts today. We will continue working on both butterflies and plants next week!Social Studies-We will start learning about communities next week as well as some more map skills.Spelling-We did a practice sort this week and will do another one next week. We will also take our pre-test next week so I can determine
