Infant Program

The focus in the Infant Program is to serve as an aid to life. Rather than using the classroom to pacify and restrict the actions of the child, the Montessori environment offers hands-on, real-life experiences to develop the whole child and to maximize the potential of that human life. Our Montessori teachers guide the children through experiences to develop their independence, thought processes and senses. The infants are lead by a highly-trained and certified Montessori teacher and are immersed in the Mandarin and Spanish languages. Music is important in the Infant Program.

Primary Program

At this stage of life, children possess what Maria Montessori referred to as an “absorbent mind.” The child absorbs information from the environment like a sponge. Our Primary Program is a unique cycle of learning designed to take advantage of the child’s sensitive periods. The classroom is a carefully prepared environment specially modified to allow the young student to be independent, curious, and focused. Our Montessori teachers guide the children through lessons in practical life, sensorial, language, math, culture, and science. The Primary students also receive instruction in Mandarin, Spanish, art, chess, and music by specially trained teachers. Suzuki piano and string instrument instruction is also offered during the school day.

Lower Elementary Program

At this stage in development, children have a great hunger for knowledge, understanding, and justice. Students at this level yearn to become self-proficient. The student is transitioning from concrete experiences into the world of abstract thinking. The imagination enables the student to make connections across time and space. Lower Elementary students learn how the earth was formed, how plant and animal life are deeply intertwined, and how humans have met their basic needs. A strong emphasis is placed on basic academics as well: reading, writing, grammar, math, and geometry. This age is an important period for both mental and emotional growth. Our Montessori teachers guide students through lessons in individual, small group, and large group settings. The students also receive instruction in Mandarin, Spanish, art, chess, and music during regular academic hours. Suzuki instruction is offered for piano, strings, woodwind, and brass instruments.

Upper Elementary Program

Students in the Upper Elementary Program practice respect for themselves, others, and for their environment. Children at this age are given lots of freedom and are expected to be self-motivated and extremely responsible. Students engage in a challenging curriculum with respect for their interests, abilities, learning preferences, and personalities. Students have a dedicated teaching team composed of Montessori, Spanish, Mandarin, chess, art, and music instructors to guide them. Suzuki piano, strings, brass, woodwinds instruction is a part of the regular school day.

School Policies: Hours and Attendance

• Intero Montessori School is a year-round school. Seasonal breaks are built in to the school schedule to accommodate holidays, vacations, and family time. When Intero Montessori School is closed, all Intero Montessori School activities are also on break.

• All Intero Montessori School programs are Monday through Friday. It is expected that all students, infant through 6th grade, maintain excellent school attendance. Children ages infant through preschool have the option to attend part-time (9:00 AM- 2:00 PM). All students ages kindergarten through 6th grade, must attend school full-time (8:00 AM - 4:00 PM).
