Iren Acqua Gas manages the natural
gas distribution service in the Genoa
area and, on behalf of the Group, co-
ordinates the activities involved in
the management of the integrated
water services.
Due to its consolidated position in
the natural gas distribution sector,
Iren Acqua Gas distributes natural
gas in the city of Genoa and about
twenty municipalities in the hinter-
land, serving about 350,000 custo-
mers, through the company Genova
Reti Gas.
With over 1,700 kilometres of under-
ground medium and low-pressure
pipes, Iren Acqua Gas also designs,
maintains, upgrades, measures and
develops the networks.
The experience of Genova Reti Gas
and the use of technologies by the
Saster Pipe division enable Iren Ac-
qua Gas to reduce their mean pipe
maintenance times.
Through its shares of local distribu-
tion companies, Iren Acqua Gas also
manages the gas distribution servi-
ce in other regions of Italy.
In the Genoa district, through the
companies Mediterranea delle Ac-
que, Idrotigullio and Amter, Iren
Acqua Gas manages the entire in-
tegrated water cycle, handling the
capture, conveyance and conditio-
ning of water for drinking, and the
collection, treatment and purifica-
tion of wastewater.
In the areas of Genoa, Parma and

metres of water supply pipes, 8,000
kilometres of sewage pipes and 813

pacity of 600 MW.
Its thermoelectric power plants are
situated in Moncalieri, Turin (Torino
Nord), Turbigo, Genoa (Sampierdare-
na), Parma (via Lazio) and Reggio
Emilia (Polo Energetico): they have
an installed capacity of 2,500 MW of
electrical power and 950 MW of ther-
mal power in cogeneration for use in
district heating.
Through the company AEM Distribu-

a total of about 7,500 kilometres of

The company Iride Servizi supervises
the activities carried out in the field of
technological services for public au-
thorities and facility management.
In Turin, it manages the 96,000 lights
of the public lighting system, the 670
sets of traffic lights and the heating,
electricity and special systems of the
800 buildings belonging to the Town
Council of Turin.
Iride Servizi has acquired a considera-
ble degree of expertise in the field of
monument and artistic lighting.
The company coordinates the mana-
gement of public lighting in Parma.
Iren Energia also operates in the sector
of telecommunications, offering bro-
ad-band connection services in the
Turin area.
On behalf of the Group, Iren Ambiente
coordinates the activities carried out

over 1 billion tons of waste, treated in
integrated engineering systems.

• two waste to energy plants with a
waste disposal capacity of 250,000
tons per year, capable of providing

• two biogas capture systems;
• a landfill with a waste disposal capa-
city of 175,000 tons per year;
• eleven treatment plants (chemico-
physical, preliminary reconditioning
and storage centres) with a total ca-
pacity of 900,000 tons;
• a selection and treatment plant.
The waste to energy plant of Piacenza,
managed by the controlled company
Tecnoborgo, produces about 65 GWh
of electricity per year.
Iren Ambiente has recently constructed
the Integrated Environment Centre of
Parma, the new industrial site for the
treatment and disposal of the waste
produced in the province.
Through the company Iren Rinnovabili,
Iren Ambiente operates in the field
of alternative energy sources, such as
biomass, wind, geothermal, solar and
photovoltaic energy.
