Congratulations on an Amazing Musical I would like to congratulate the staff and students for the amazing musical performance last week. We had more than 400 people in attendance and I was so impressed with how brave our students were. I talked before the show about our culture of acceptance, having a go and supporting each other. This is what makes our students feel that they can do what they did last week. When you have great teachers, supportive parents and a learning culture, excellence is the result. Thank you to Kate Battiston for her organisation of the event, it really was a grand effort. We look forward to an even bigger and better musical next year! Our Stage 2 Student’s are having great fun at GABC This week our Stage 2 students are at the Great Aussie Bush Camp and from all reports they are having a ball! Thank you to Sandy Fenning, Ian Kenny, Belinda Bateman and Simone Collins for putting in so much effort to organise the camp and for their efforts looking after our students whilst they are away. No doubt they have missed a lot of sleep! Thank you to Ritchie Donovan and the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet for their support to make sure the camp is a success. They have provided financial support to reduce the costs of the bus and also Ritchie has attended the camp to support our school. Stage 3 off to Canberra Next week our Stage 3 students are off to Canberra, they are all very excited! Again thanks to the teachers for their organisation and Narelle Wilson who has done so much.

School pick ups and drop offs A gentle reminder that the grassed area at the back of the hall is not a designated pick up and drop off zone for our school. Please can parents who are choosing to drive up the hill and onto this area stop doing so as you are

endangering our children. For anyone who has an identified disability you are welcome to park behind the hall in the teacher car park where there is a disabled parking space. Thank you to the parents who I have seen park down on the road and walk up the hill to meet their children. Regards, Phil Maunder Principal

Thank you to Uncle Larry Kelly, Aunty Edrica Jarrett and Aunty Pauline Hooler for coming with us on our excursion to the Peace Park last week and sharing the history of the area. We were lucky to have lots of parents along as well. A special thank you to Giiguy Gamambi Preschool who shared morning tea, games and stories with us. It was a great opportunity for students to have fun together and develop leadership skills and relationships.

Great Team Effort at Tournament of Minds

Earlier this Term, seven very dedicated and hard-working Nambucca Heads Public School students headed down to Port Macquarie on 28th August to compete in Tournament of Minds. For those who are unsure what this is, it’s a competition where a team of seven Stage 2 and 3 students have to answer an open-ended question in the most creative way they can. To be part of this group it is important to work collaboratively and cooperatively. The successful seven were part of the 35 students who tried out for the team this year. They chose the Language Literature

task where they had to create a scenario where a gathering takes place between a group of very different people. They very cleverly decided a high school reunion would be a crafty way to meet the variety of requirements the challenge had. After six very long, busy weeks of sacrificing lunches, computer time, meeting after school and on the weekends it was a welcome relief when the competition day came about. The team worked incredibly well, even with technical difficulties, they were a great example of endurance and cooperation. Well done team.

Great Team Work Connor, Breeanna, Benny, Jemma, Aaliyah, Indigo and Hannah at Tournament of Minds.

Excellence in Stage 3

Students are showing Excellence in Stage 3’s new learning structure. They are working independently and are self-motivated to complete work at a higher standard each and every time.

In Literacy sessions this term, Stage 3 have opened the two 5-6 classrooms to make one giant Stage 3 learning space. We meet at the 'mountaintop' to discuss our learning focus for the session and our 'must-do' tasks. After that students disperse to work on their own spelling, reading and writing tasks. We have a range of independent tasks, peer teaching and reflective activities as well as teacher led workshops. All students have stepped up well to take control of their own learning in a cooperative, collaborative and supportive learning environment.
