As outlined below, there are a variety of ways you might consider workingthrough Teaching Personnel. Long-Term Assignments

We generally class any assignment over sixweeks as a long-term booking. Over 70% of ourplacements are for this type of role and oftenexist to provide schools with cover formaternity, long-term staff sickness, unfilledvacancies and ongoing specialist interventions.

Daily Supply Work

Daily supply work will range from one dayrequirements to bookings that can run for anumber of weeks. You might be in one school ora variety of schools and will generally becovering staff sickness, non-contact time anddiffering types of planned staff absence. Whilstwe will always endeavour to give you as muchnotice as possible, there are likely to beoccasions where cover is required for emergencyrequirements resulting in you being contactedfor work on the same morning as you arerequired to attend the school.

The following diagram outlines what isconsidered best practice when working inschools on a temporary basis, especiallywhen visiting a variety of different schools.Some of this information appears obviousand is, but we feel it important to captureas much information as possible based onour experience of where issues cansometimes arise.

An understanding of this information willhelp ensure your time working in schoolsthrough Teaching Personnel is enjoyableand career enhancing. It also means ourclient schools continue to receive the levelof service and professionalism they expectfrom us.

Duringthe school day

If you’re a teacher and there is workprepared, do your best to follow the

plan. If you’re a learning supportassistant, please make every effort toprovide excellent support to the class

teacher and pupils as required. Following the policies and procedures ofthe school are also key to the successful

completion of a supply booking.

End of theschool day

Please leave the classroom tidy, neverleave before the pupils and do your bestto leave feedback for the regular teacher

or teaching assistant you are covering.Before you depart, don’t forget to get your

timesheet signed (unless the school usesour online approval service). Finally,assuming you had a good day – tellyour school contact and us! Schools

love to hear it and we love toshare it!

Keepingin contact

Keep us up to date with youravailability and any changes to your

requirements and we will be in the bestpossible position to promote you for themost up to date roles - as and when we

uncover them at our client schools.

Acceptinga booking

When we offer you supply work, we willprovide details on the school, its location,

the specifics of the booking and the person to contact when you arrive. Once you have

accepted a booking we ask for your commitmentto that booking to ensure we provide schools with the best possible service and avoid any

unnecessary disruption to pupils. If unavoidableand you are unable to attend a school afteraccepting a booking, it is vital you contact

your local branch by telephone as soon as possible so we have the best

chance of providing areplacement.

Preparingfor bookings

It is always best practice (teachers) tobring along a selection of lessons and

activities to every booking, specific to thesubject or year group you will be teaching(if known). Many schools will also ask to

see some ID and a copy of your DBSCertificate so always have them with you.

Also, although obvious, please ensureyou have planned your journey to the

school and arrive promptly for thestart of the day.

Arrivingat school

When you arrive at school on the first day of a booking, please report tothe person whose name you will have

been given by Teaching Personnel.This person will provide the information

you need which might include a timetable,map of the school, behaviour policy, and

instances of SEN. If you want moreinformation, feel free to ask for it!

SafeguardingEveryone who comes intocontact with children and their familieshas a role to play in safeguardingchildren. School and college staff areparticularly important as they are in aposition to identify concerns early andprovide help for children, to preventconcerns from escalating. Teachers andteaching assistants working throughTeaching Personnel should ensure they:

• Protect children from any form ofharm or from maltreatment

• Provide a safe environment wherechildren can learn

• Identify children who may be in needof extra help or who are suffering, orare likely to suffer, significant harmand take appropriate action

• Only use physical restraint andreasonable force in very exceptionalcircumstances and only as a last resort

Pupil Safeguarding Responsibilities When you work through Teaching Personnel you play an integral role in the successful running of thousands of schools across the UK. High standards of behaviour are expected from adults who work with children and young people and it is important to understand andacknowledge the responsibilities inherent in these roles. To ensure we all do everything possible to safeguard and promote the welfare of pupils,please review our expectations and your responsibilities as outlined below.

1 Pre-EmploymentChecksAll Teaching Personnel staff will berequired to go through a detailedrecruitment process including anextensive range of pre-vetting checks in line with DfE guidance. This willinclude:

• Face to face interview

• Identity and address checks

• An Enhanced Disclosure and BarringService check and where relevantcriminal clearance checks fromoverseas authorities

• Checks around qualifications andprofessional bodies

• Legal permission to work in the UKchecks

• References and career history checks

• Fitness to work check

Staff will be required to provide originaldocumentary evidence in all cases andwe reserve the right to terminate anapplication at any time.

2 EqualOpportunitiesTeaching Personnel expects all staff totreat everyone equally irrespective ofsex, sexual orientation, genderreassignment, marital or civilpartnership status, age, disability,colour, race, nationality, ethnic ornational origin, religion or belief,political beliefs or membership or non-membership of a Trade Union.

Temporary staff should also complywith specific equal opportunity anddiversity policies of the schools wherethey are working.

3 Safe WorkingPracticeAll staff working in schools will beexpected to make judgements abouttheir behaviour in order to secure thebest interests and welfare of thechildren in their charge. In doing this,it is important that you understandwhich behaviours constitute safepractice and which behaviours shouldbe avoided. Teaching Personnel staffshould:

• Refrain from giving their personalcontact details to children or youngpeople, including their mobiletelephone number and details of anyblogs, social media profiles orpersonal websites

• Only use equipment e.g. mobilephones, provided by the organisationto communicate with children,making sure that parents have givenpermission for this form ofcommunication to be used

• Ensure that relationships withchildren and young people clearlytake place within the boundaries of arespectful professional relationship

• Avoid any conduct which would leadany reasonable person to questiontheir motivation and intentions

4 Health andSafetyThe Health and Safety Act 1974 imposesa duty on employees to take care ofthemselves and anyone else who may be affected by their actions or failings.As an adult with a duty of care towardschildren, the need to be vigilant andmaintain a responsible attitude towardssafety in schools is paramount. All Teaching Personnel staff shouldensure they:

• Are aware of specific health and safetypolices, fire and accident procedures intheir places of work

• Report any accident or health andsafety incident to a relevant memberof staff

• Ensure they have the right trainingand qualifications required shouldthey wish to administer first aid and/orany agreed medication

While any qualified teacher canundertake general supervision inschools, there are certain subjects wherestaff should ensure that they have therelevant qualifications, experience andtraining before undertaking (e.g.Physical Education, Design Technology,Resistant Materials, Food Technology).

Ensuring you are PAID correctly and ON TIME!We understand how important it is that you are paid correctly and on time. To avoid potential complications in this area, please read through the following guide to helpyou fully understand how our payroll process works.

1 Timesheet

To enable us to process yourpayment, all days worked must have a corresponding timesheetauthorised by a relevant contact atthe school where you are working.

Submitted

Timesheets for days worked mustbe submitted by Monday 5pm atthe latest (following the week thework was completed).

2 Website

Schools can authorise timesheets inpaper form or online via theTeaching Personnel website.

3 Hardcopy

Hardcopy timesheets can be faxed,posted or emailed to our HeadOffice (details on following page).

Responsibility

It is your responsibility to ensurethat a timesheet (paper or online) is submitted on time and isaccurately completed.

Check online

You can check if your timesheets have been received via your secureonline diary through the login pagesof www.teachingpersonnel.com. Ifthere is a padlock on the timesheeticon then the timesheet has beenreceived. If you can click on thetimesheet and open it, then it has notbeen received. Within the ‘Payroll’tab, there is also an ‘OutstandingTimesheets’ link which lists anyoutstanding timesheets, detailing theschool name and dates worked.

Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

7 Processed

Teaching Personnel payroll isprocessed on Wednesday mornings.All payments are made weekly inarrears for days where timesheetshave been received.

8 Paid

All candidates are paid on Friday (thismay differ for My Key Pay candidatesworking for multiple agencies orthrough other Umbrella companies).

Common PayrollPitfalls to Avoid!

2 Leaving it at school

Leaving your timesheet for a school to complete and returnto Teaching Personnel. If the school forgets then your pay isnot processed. Ask the school to complete it and fax it to uswhile you are present (if convenient) or scan and email thetimesheet yourself.

3 Unsigned

Forgetting to get a timesheet signed. Unfortunately we arenot able to process pay without a signed timesheet.

4 Unauthorised

School usually utilises our Online Timesheet Approval Service but forgets to do so. Regularly check your timesheetstatus online at www.teachingpersonnel.com to see if thetimesheets have been authorised. If not then please let us orthe school know. Alternatively ask the school, if convenient, toauthorise the timesheet online before you leave the placement.

5 Unmatched

Timesheet does not match the booking on our system. If a school has agreed any booking changes directly withyou, please make sure you inform the branch as soon aspossible. This will avoid any delays in trying to investigatebooking/timesheet anomalies. All timesheets should only be ticked as full day / half day (and not hours).

6 Illegible

Illegible timesheets that cannot be processed. Please use a scan app on your phone for timesheets as opposed tosending a photograph (Cam Scanner Free and Genius Scan aregood app options). Photographs taken on phones are oftenillegible. Also please write your full name and candidate IDnumber clearly and in capital letters on the form.
