Mr. Baharally Principal Our student registration process for the fall of 2016 is now almost complete; May 4th is the deadline for all student registra- tion forms but there are still a few students that have not handed in their forms. We will be trying our best to make sure that all students receive the courses that they have selected. However, students may not get everything that they have selected. This is usually due to the fact that there is a scheduling conflict between courses that are only offered one time during the year. Also, if students were late with returning their registration forms or if a particular course may have reached maximum enroll- ment. I would like to thank Mrs. Enyedy, Mrs. Lovell and all other staff members involved in our registration process for their time and energy spent in making sure that all of the meticulous details are taken care of. Our school truly appreciates all of your efforts, time and commitment. Please be aware that there will be NO school mail out in August. Student timeta- bles will be available to view and/or print from the Maplewood system in August. There will be no timetable changes in Au- gust. High School students will be given the opportunity to make necessary timeta- ble (class) changes during the first days of the school year. Notifications and remind- ers will be sent out through our Synre- voice message system, Remind, Face- book, Twitter, School Website and Memo as well as our new outdoor sign. School calendar magnets showing important school year events will be available again but will not be mailed out. They will be distributed to students to bring home at the start of the school year as well as available to be picked up at our open house on Tuesday, September 13th. Continuing in September 2016, Clearview School Division will be entering into the tenth year of embedded Professional De- velopment for all of their teaching staff. Embedded Professional Development allows teachers in all Clearview schools, the opportunities to work with the same grade and subject colleagues to plan units, lessons and projects together. It also gives teachers an opportunity to share common assessments, evaluations, teach- ing strategies, best practices and re- sources within their areas of expertise. Also, next year our teachers will again be spending time understanding and imple- menting the Ministerial Order, Curriculum Prototyping and the Inspiring Education document. Our staff will also be continuing their work on Google Apps For Education (GAfE) in our classrooms as well as contin- uing with Project Based Learning, as part of the regular classroom-learning environ- ment. We have also taken on a new initia- tive with Professional Learning Communi- ties (PLC’s) that will be a part of our regular Professional Days. The days of our Divi- sional Collaborative times have changed slightly and now include full Professional Days in most months to allow our teachers more flexibility in how to use the collabora- tive P.D. time. Next year’s school learning calendar is also on-line on the division’s website and on our schools’ website outlin- ing all of the Embedded Professional Days in which the students will not be required to be in school. Also continuing in September 2016, Clearview School Division and Wm. E. Hay Stettler Secondary Campus will be continuing with the refining of the delivery of our courses in a competency (mastery) based fashion as well as student assess- ment, evaluation, grading and reporting to reflect this practice. We have completed one round of the “Tell Them From Me Surveys” and we will be doing another round of surveys towards the middle of May in order to find out what our students think about our current educa- tional model and to listen to their sugges- tions to improve our school and their learn- ing. During round two of the TTFM survey we will be surveying our current grade 7-11 students as well as our Outreach students to get their opinions regarding how we are meeting their current educational needs as a school. Once this data is collected, we will use it to help in determining some of our decisions for next school year as we continue into our second year of our grade reconfiguration as Wm. E. Mental Health Week, celebrated from May 2-8th, 2016, is an

annual event designed for all people across Canada to

celebrate mentally healthy lifestyles and positive attitudes.

What is Mental Health?

Mental Health is “a state of wellbeing that allows us to “feel,

think and act in ways that enhance our ability to enjoy life

and deal with the challenges we face.” (Public Health Agency of Canada)

WEAR GREEN TO GET LOUD Green ribbons were used in the 1800s to label people

“insane.” Let’s turn that on its head by wearing green during

Mental Health Week. Show your support: wear green loud

and proud!

What does it mean to GET LOUD for Mental Health? Think

of “getting loud” as one big public address system – a giant

loud speaker – calling out to end discrimination and stigma

and shame. It means taking action and using our voices to

raise awareness and build support. Some of the ways we’re

suggesting Canadians #GETLOUD include: wearing green to

show their support, getting loud on social media and talking

to a loved one or friend. And there’s more, simply visit

mentalhealthweek.ca for more ideas.

May 23-28 for Grads will be posted on the Wm. E. Hay

website under the “GRAD” heading.

Please check for important dates and times as well as

other Grad 2016 information.

We have spent a couple of hours

over at Superfluity assisting with moving everything from the upper floor to the

lower floor or outside to a trailer. This is due to repairs being done to the roof

of the building. After repairs are complete we will return to help move every-

thing back into the building.

Siobhan from AHS informed us about binge drinking and low-risk consump-

tion of alcohol and the effects of alcohol consumption.

Stephanie continues to share her expertise and knowledge in art and design.

She came to the school and did a session on typography – word art and then we

went to her studio and did a session on glass –fused magnets which everyone

seemed to enjoy and all achieved amazing results.

A big thank you to the students who helped out setting up tables and chairs

for the Women’s Conference at the Community Hall.

Band day at the Stettler Music Festival was filled with many proud

moments. Our adjudicator, Karl Schwonik, was wonderful with all

the young musicians, and some of the "old" ones as well. The

Grade 5 and 6 Bands were very solid and certainly on the right track

for continued success. The Grade 7 and 8 bands were very good as

well, scoring A's. They had to really keep focused throughout Febru-

ary and March as we had to juggle in practices throughout lunches and

FBI times. Thanks to the teachers that let me gather them in throughout

that time. The High School band really peeked at the right time and

achieved Honours in the Recital Category. The afternoon and early even-

ing were filled with solos, duets, trios etc. and ended with Jazz Cats Jr.,

Jazz Cats Sr., and the Jazz Guys. Mr. Schwonik was very pleased with

these groups with scores of A for the Jr.'s and Honours for the last two

groups. Overall, a very successful day and I was very proud to be on stage

with these wonderful young, and old, musicians. On Sunday, May

8th the Stettler Concert Band is off to New Orleans. We are a 77 piece

Concert Band this year and we are very excited to see and perform in this

part of the world. Thanks to all for the support! Eric Rahn, Band Director.

On April 23, the Senior A and both Intermedi-ate School Reach teams went to Provin-cials at Harry Ainlay High School in Edmonton. The Seniors fin-ished 4th in their pool and then advanced to the Consolation final. They lost a very close game to Lacombe in the Consola-tion final. The Intermediates placed 5th and 6th in their pools. They played each other in the first round of Consolation playoffs. The A team advanced to the next round but lost in the final. They were definitely the best dressed teams at the com-petition! So nice to see the kids make the extra effort and make our school proud. (The Intermediates even color co-ordinated their dress clothes!) -see photos next page

The Wm.E. Hay Archery team

forward to next years season and to the growth of our

Also, a huge thank you to all of our

parents for helping us get our equipment

even with complications.

We started our season this past weekend with a pre-season

camp with McNally High School from Edmonton, who traveled

to Stettler to train with us Friday and Saturday (April 22/23).

Camp was a huge success and helped build a lot of team culture.

We played the first ever Stettler rugby game this past Tuesday, April 26, against Rocky Mountain House

and won a thriller, 12-10. We have our first home game of the season this Wednesday at Wm. E. Hay
