11th Month Meeting for Worship for Business Summary Twenty-seven Friends took up the business of London Grove Monthly Meeting on 11/4/2018. Recorder Betsy Walker reported the death of our member Richard Yeatman on 9/30/2018.Treasurer Doug Myers reported the Income & Expense Report for last month was favorable: Total income was $4,952 and total expenses $1,077. Net ordinary income was $3,875. We are 83% through the year and have received 70.1% of the budgeted contributions. Disbursements related to the 10/28/2018 Simple Meal included $200 to POWER and $190 was contributed to UNICEF. There was a $423 grant given a student from the Leadership Fund. Two educational loans repaid a total of $175.Margaret Walton reported on the successful hosting of Western Quarterly Meeting of 10/21/2018. Eighty lunches were served! WQM Clerk Mark Myers described the new committee that will begin visits to unused meetinghouses in the Quarter. He clarified that Homeville meetinghouse is no longer under the Quarter’s care and that Old Kennett is carried by Kennett Monthly Meeting. The next quarterly meeting will be hosted on 1/20/2019 by Centre Meeting. The spring quarterly meeting will be held in conjunction with Concord Quarter at Wilmington Friends School on 4/21/2019.Quarterly business meetings will be held separately.Rick Hearne gave the Annual Report of the Property Committee, which is down two members this year. Rick noted that most of serving members are aged 70 plus, so most of the committee’s work is carried out by contractors, supervised by committee volunteers. The committee is pondering repairs and realignment of rain-damaged gutters and looking at updating the caretaker’s compensation, which has not been done in several years. Exterior painting and roof repairs are also being considered. In the long term, geothermal heating may replace the furnace when it is retired. The most urgent matter is that our tap water exceeds the state standard for nitrates and thus cannot be consumed, on pain of our facility being shut down. Notices to that effect have been posted. Nitrate-removal technology will be installed to remedy this situation.Bottled water will continue to be purchased, even after nitrate levels return to belowthose that are currently being measured.Leona Provinski gave the Annual Report of the Religious Education Committee. She reviewed the committee’s major activities and the active involvement of all committee members in carrying them out. Advertising RE’s activities brings in a few new and returning attenders. So far one Kindergarten child has attended each of the “2nd First Day” classes planned and taught by Claire Brandenburg. InReach Committee is challenged to find enough volunteers to staff the children’s RE program, which serves from two to six children weekly. Adult programs typically draw 30-40 attenders. Leona thanked everyone who helps support each year’s classes, and the special activities and holiday celebrations under the committee’s care.

GENERATOR FOR HAITI

Dear Friends,

Recently, when I became discouraged by the news, divisions among people, and the traumatic events occurring across our nation and around the world, I was reminded of West Grove Meeting's commitment to Dr. Patrick Jeudy's clinic in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Alyce Denver is heading up the Meeting's effort to raise $25,000 to purchase a generator for the surgical unit in the clinic. They have managed to raise more than half of the needed funds so far.

When I first heard about this effort, it seemed like a great way for London Grove to raise a helping hand with a fellow Meeting. I particularly appreciate opportunities to give support to a very concrete, specific need as opposed to a general donation to an organization--which is my usual course of action. I also am in awe of this small neighbor Meeting's energy and dedication to achieving their goal.

Last year, many of our committees and individuals made donations to La Communidad; it has been suggested this year an appeal be made to committees and individuals to make a donation to West

Grove for Dr. Jeudy's generator. I have sent a request to all clerks. Doug Myers is aware of this project and will collect all monies and directives from committees, making a single check from London Grove Meeting to be given to West Grove. Individuals who wish to make donations should make their checks payable to London Grove Monthly Meeting with the memo: Haiti Mission. Doug will combine the contributions.

It seems best to accomplish our fund raising effort by December 15th and get the check to West Grove meeting before Christmas.

Thank you for considering this,Karen-Lee Brofee
