GroveSchool–ReturntoLearn–InformationforFamiliesGroveSchool,incollaborationwiththeStateDepartmentofEducation,theStateDepartmentofHealth,localhealthcareproviders,andotherstakeholders,hasdevelopedthefollowingprotocolsforreturningtoschoolthisAugust.Districtleadershipwillcontinuetocollaboratewiththeabove-mentionedgroups,andprotocolsmaybeadjustedbeforetheschoolyearbeginsandthroughouttheschoolyearduetochangesinCOVID-19data,localmandates,statemandates,orothercircumstancessurroundingCOVID-19.Anychangesinprotocolswillbecommunicatedwithparentsassoonaspossible,andGroveSchoolappreciatesyourflexibility.HealthScreeningParentsareaskedtomonitortheirchildforsymptomsofCOVID-19andtochecktheirchild’stemperatureeachmorningbeforeschool.Symptomsincludecough,shortnessofbreathordifficultybreathing,chillsorrepeatedshakingwithchills,lossoftasteorsmell,fevergreaterthanorequalto100degreesFahrenheit,musclesorenessandfatigue,andknowncontactwithapersonwhoislabconfirmedtohaveCOVID-19ifexposuretotheactiveconfirmedcaseoccurredwithinthelast14days.Studentsshowingsymptomsorrecentcontactwithaknowncasearetobekepthome.Studentswhohavehadknowncontactwithapositivecaseshouldremainhomefor14days,inclusiveofweekends,andmonitorsymptoms.Bysendingastudenttoschool,parentsareverifyingthatthestudentdoesnotshowsymptomsandhasnothadknowncontactwithapositivecase.Visitorstothebuildingmustsubmittoahealthscreeningandtemperaturecheckbeforeentering.Parentsareencouragedtoconductbusinesswiththeschoolviaphoneoremailasmuchaspossible.HygienePracticesTeachersandstaffwillpromoteandreinforcehandwashing,useofhandsanitizer,propercoughing/sneezingetiquette,nottouchingyourface,andstayingoutofthefaceofothers.Studentswillbegivenadditionaltimeforhandwashinganduseofhandsanitizer.Intheclassroom,studentswillusetheirownsupplies(labeled)asmuchasfeasible,whileshareditemswillbesanitizedasmuchasfeasible.Traditionalwaterfountainswillbedisconnected.Waterbottlefillingstationswillremainconnectedandavailabletostudentsandstaff.Studentsareencouragedtobringafilledwaterbottletoschoolwiththem.Therewillbenoself-servesaladbaratlunch.FaceCoveringsClothfacecoverings(masks–coveringthenoseandmouth)arerequiredforstudents,staff,andvisitors.Areaswheremasksmayberequiredinclude,butarenotlimitedto,arrival/dismissallines,buses,classrooms,andhallways/restrooms.Somemedicalconditionsmayrequireaccommodations.Attimes,studentsmaybeallowedtoremovetheirmasksforcertainactivitiessuchaslunch/snack,resttime

recess,orotherphysicalactivities.TheDistrictwillhavesomewashableclothmasksavailableforstudentsthatdonothavetheirown.SchoolCleaningSchoolbuildingandbuseswillbethoroughlycleanedeachnightwithspecialattentiongiventohightouchsurfaces.Commonareassuchashallways,restrooms,andlunchareaswillbecleanedthroughoutthedayasmuchasfeasible.SocialDistancingStudents,staff,andvisitorswillphysicallydistancewhenfeasible.Classroomseating,cafeteriaseating,etc.willbearrangedtocreateasmuchdistancebetweenstudentsasfeasible.Cohortgroups(lowerelementaryclassesoruppergradelevels)willbeseparatedwhenfeasibletolimitexposuretoothergroupsofstudents.Largegatheringswillbelimitedandwilloccuroutdoorswhenfeasible.Visitorstothebuildingwillbelimitedandwillbeprohibitedfromattendinglunch,classparties,orotherclassactivities.ArrivalStudentsmaybedroppedoffbetween7:45amand8:05am(studentsmaynotbedroppedoffpriorto7:45am).Studentsmayhavetheirtemperaturescheckedwithatouchlessthermometer.Studentswillreportdirectlytotheirclassroomstoavoidlargegatherings.Parentswillnotbeallowedtowalktheirchildintothebuilding.DismissalStudentswillwaitintheirlastperiodclassroomuntiltheyaredismissedtoavoidlargegatherings.Weanticipatethatfewerstudentswillridethebusthisyear,whichmaymakethecarlinemorecongested.Therefore,dismissaltimesmaybestaggeredtoalleviatetraffic.Parentswillbenotifiedoftheirchild’sdismissaltime.ExtracurricularActivitiesParentswillbegiveninformationpertainingtoextracurricularactivitiesaseachactivitybegins.Somemitigationpracticesthatareutilizedduringtheschooldaymaynotbefeasibleinallextracurricularactivities.ResponsetoaPositiveorSuspectedCaseIfschoolstaffsuspectsthatastudentmayhaveCOVID-19symptoms,thatstudentwillbeisolatedfromotherstudents.Parentswillbecontactedimmediatelytopickuptheirchildandseekamedicalopinion.StudentsandstaffthathavetestedpositiveforCOVID-19willbesenthomeandmaynotreturnuntil“returntoschool”criteriaaremet.Areaswherethestudent/staffmemberhadspent30minutesormorewillbeclosedanddisinfectedpriortoreopening.Schoolleadershipwillworkwiththelocalhealthdepartmenttodeterminewhichstudents/staffmemberswereexposed.Thoseindividualswillbesenthomeuntil“returntoschool”criteriaaremet,andparentswillbenotified.

ReturntoSchoolAstudent/staffmemberwhohastestedpositiveforCOVID-19mayreturntoschoolwhenthefollowingconditionsaremet:

• Withsymptoms–respiratorysymptomshaveimproved,ANDithasbeen10dayssincesymptomsfirstappeared,ANDithasbeen24hourssincehavingafever(withoutusingfeverreducingmedication)

• Withoutsymptoms–ithasbeen10dayssincethepositivetestAstudent/staffmemberwhoissymptomaticbuthasnotbeenconfirmedpositivemayreturntoschoolwhenthefollowingconditionsaremet:

• Adoctor’snotestatingthatthestudent/staffmemberisbeingtreatedforanothercauseofthesymptomsandthatthestudent/staffmembermayreturntoschoolsafely,OR

• Respiratorysymptomshaveimproved,ANDithasbeen10dayssincesymptomsfirstappeared,ANDithasbeen24hourssincehavingafever(withoutusingfeverreducingmedication)

Astudent/staffmemberthathasbeenexposedtoaknownpositivecaseofCOVID-19muststayhomefor14daysandmonitorsymptoms.DistanceLearningTheremaybetimesthroughouttheschoolyearwheregroupsofstudents,orevenentireclasses,muststayhomeforextendedperiods.Undersuchcircumstances,GroveSchoolwilltransitionto“distancelearning”(learningfromhome).Assignmentswillprimarilybedistributedviaelectronicmeans(SeesawforgradesPK-3,GoogleClassroomforgrades4-8),andsomeprintedmaterialmaybedistributed.ParentsthatdonothaveadevicethroughwhicheachstudentmayaccesstheInternetmaycontacttheofficeforassistance.
