Temple Teachings. Open Series No. 263.My Dear Children:

The glimpse of an isolated truth serves as a good illustration toexplain lhe fact that so many false coneepts are formed in th r mindsof psychic8 from the failure to relate one phenomena to anothE'r ofwhich it ja apar t , and from the fact that to psych'ic vision opeoedat one time a eertain related state or plane, i\nd at another time a differer.t plane, and the psychic is thus unabJe to relate isolatedglimpses of truth, one to the other, for the reason that the eonsei ousnessis no l able to reuch a plane above pereeived phenomena on the astral.

    - On ly the trained psychic who ean contaet the highest mental planein full consdousness can aecept what may be eaught in separatedglimpses, as it. were. and relate one to another in it s proper relation. As an example, the isolated fact perceived of the Blue Star glowingwith a blue aura--simply beeause at that instant of time connectionwas made with this vibration and 'the ~ f m s e i o u s n e E s thereby carried toa higher plane- the "star of blue" was pereeived glowing in it s heauty.

To avoid undue importance being given to this glimpse of a bluestar, I explain to you the reason for that particular point being obBerved by psychie vision. I t gives an opportunity further for you toenlarge your mental concept of the beauty and glory of the star ofwhich each individual furms a glorified ray.Conceive if you ean ()f a vast Star of Light whose synthetie colorcorrespond!! to the Ray of Mercury. Each poi nt in that large star flameswith a Bpecialized ray synthesized in eaeh point to one of the sevencolors. Each point in that star is again synthesized into one of theBeven colors and gives ou t in turn vibrations of the seven, forming amost glorious point of light and color. You ar e individually subdivided into Reven H.ays, bu t your auragives a synthetie color vibration, although continually changing bythought emanatIons, and by regularly recurring synlhetic vibrationsconveying the color waves whieh constitute you apar t of that special ray.

With this Blight explanation I ask you to tr y to conceive of the,Gentral or more interior "Tri pIe Star" as a YeJlow Star, glowing andflashing with synchronouB vibra! ions it s glowing mass of color and light.

Next coneeive of th e great Blue Star, each point scintillating, vibrating and sending ou t into . 'the darkness of the great aby!'s" livingIines of light and beauty.

Darkness, deep darkness covers the earth as a pali; darknessthat e1ings like viscid mud to th e soul struggling Iike a bild in it smeshes. Only when the spiritual beils make a rift in that blackness ca n a ray of light enter into th e souls of men.My Brothers, e1ing e10se together, fo r when th e darkness ispassed hom yo u there will radiate a light that may l ighten th eworld.

When the Centra l Pool becomes so deep that no wind canruffle it s waves, then an d no t until then can true spiritual reflections reach the outer banks of that Pool. You who are the heart of this present attempt of ours to breakthrough these terrible conditions, look to it that yo u do no t thinklightly of any word that comes to yo u from us, for these wordsmean the salvation or destruction of the star on which you dweIl.I will come to you again with my Brother.... Morya.

"M y Children, be not dismayed or discouraged at what m ayseem to o dark to you. Remember that I have never ceased warnin g horn my first entrance into this house of the dark days thatwere coming. They have commenced. They m ay an d willgrow darker and dark er at times, then the light will break throughagain. None of yo u save B. S. ha s realized sufficiently that eachsoul that entered The Temple must do so by fire. There is noother way. Each must be tried in th e furnace before he is ableto perform th e work tha t is asked of him. There is no need fo rdiscouragement, fo r those of you who realize that you are warriorsindeed will feel that there is a victory to be won, an d knowing inyour souls that yo u have truth an d right behind you, yo u will goforth with courage fo r th e hay. Remember that th e success orfai!ure of th e movement does not matter to you. Y ou are eachto do your duty in your own appointed place an d leave the resultsto us an d th e La w . ... . . If we wished, we alone could put an adep t in the presidential chair. It is fo r th e sake of humanity that we offer to le tthem help us, that they may have the right to th e opportunitiesof the Golden Age when it appears. Remember that I have saidbefore, humanity ca n hinder if it will, bu t it cannot always holdback that great day. Humanity is doing all in it s power to hi n de rtoday, an d still I sa y the time is fast coming when what I haveprophesied will take place. I have before told each of yo u thatuntil th e foundation of th e Temple wa s complete we could donothing with the outside world . . . Again are being fought th ebattles of the 16th century, only on a higher plane. Question : "Oid H. P. B. leave an y written or spoken word toan y person now Iiving, which would be accessible to all of us asso-called "external" evidence concerning yo u an d your relation toMaster M.?""She did not leave an y evidence that is accessible to doubters. There is plenty of evidence for those who trust an d believe."Question : "I s there anything more we ca n do to change presentconditions? .."You are doing the best you can under the circumstances. Y oucannot see as we do what yo u ar e fighting against, but that doesno t matter . . .... A ne w movement is on foot in different parts of the countrythe members of which were prepared by myself for this movement. They have misconstrued their directions, an d on e by on ethey will realize ho w useless it is to continue without real directions . . . It is harder work than we anticipated, an d we did no ttake fully into account tbis terrible Karma that has been le t looseat this critical time. Bu t we hoped, with All our work an d al l th easpirations of the hungry souls of the earth, that we would be ableto save ou r ow n horn what must come now. If they would takethe truth we offer. would prepare conditions, we could tide thiscritical period over without much loss, but they ar e rendering thatimpossible . . . There are hundreds of them wh o are going intowhat they call a ne w movement wh o were meant to see the lightthat shines in this . . .. . . Directions to be pure and tTue must come horn th e heart;directions horn th e head alone would always lead one astray. When the heart is filled with love to Cod an d love to man, nohuman soul can go very far astray. They may make mistakes. bu tthey can easily be corrected. It is only when the heart is purethat soul language can be understood . . . Pu t down into yourheart an y question you wish solved, an d th e answer will comehorn him to whom yo u pu t that question . . . I know yo u ar e allcoming to a realization of that very principle. You ar e growingeloser together. You are more able to understand each other. If yo u continue. you will have reason to be very thankful. .. . Thisis what happens whenever a heart in perfect sympathy with us an dwith the Infinite reaches up in aspiration: A ra y of light or forceis sent into that darkness, reaches the heart, destroys the powerof the darkness an d gives the soul a chance to get into the light. That is what all those flashes of light that B. S. is seeing constantlymean. They ar e rays horn th e Creat White Throne sent down inanswer to aspiration. . . . "Question : "Was this 16th century Karma engendered by thecrusades ?""I t wa s first by the action of th e so-called heathen, an d thenby th e so-called Christians. Each tried to outdo th e other incruelty, and the consequence is one of the blackest Karmas that hasever fallen on man."

THE TEMPLE ARTlSAN"Because it wa s a religious aHair?""Yes. . . . Th e crusades lasted ho m th e 12th to the 16thcentury an d were filled with bloody butchery an d crime.""I s this concerned also with the Inquisition?""I t iso That ended it, or rather pu t the cap to All that had gonebefore.""Are most of those people on earth today?""They are all on earth today. or have been within th e lastcentury. Its Karma was held back as long as it could be held.""I s . . . . . . influence to be feared? ,."N o more than that of the other churches. CREEDS

DISAPPEAR-IT IS HEARTS TH AT R E MA IN. . . .I also would like to call your attention to another thing thatI have written you personally be fore, an d which I wish pu t ou tvery emphatically. I said distinctly that there would be no displayof occult fireworks. 1 meant it. I repeat it now. Such thingsmay come occasionally to yo u at the center, possibly to othersoutside. It is no t necessary. It would do hurt. It would convince no on e of the truth; an d it i5 the truth that we want tobring horne to the hearts of th e people- the truth that men ar ebrothers instead of wild beasts, the truth that there is such a thingas Infinite Love that watches over the hearts an d destinies of men;the truth that unless man turns to that light he must di e of soulI tarvation. . . . . . . 1 must leave you now, as we al l have other work to dotonight. There will be many sad catastrophes in the next 48hours. We All have much to do . Hold together in rhought, inharmony. 72 73HE TEMPLE ARTISANthem, th e very life of the group would be threatenecl. Espedallywould this be true if th e retention of those treasures wa:> d;;pen-dent upon continuous adherence to th e principles of tmi'lersal bro-therhood and sex purity. The Temple of th e People as a body, or any distinct group ofthat body, would be recreant to th e trust placed in !t if it deliberately chose either one side or th e other of those engnged in th e presentgreat world struggle fo r exploitation or endorsement. Such choos-ing would be outside th e purpose for which it was created. and byso doing it might deprive itself of the guidance of th e Gronp Spiritwhich is so necessary fo r it s growth and expansion. How could it be possible fo r a group composed of members ofmany nationalities and religions to greet as a brother the strangerwithin it s gates who had been forced by an y one of a number ofcontending nations into seeking refuge in such a body, mayhap ashis only chance fo r continuous life, and that group could only offerhim a share in th e same spirit of disruption which had torn his forme r home and heart center apart. In such an instance it is not aquestion of racial, national, or international policy or right. I t isonly a question of the principle of human brotherhood and th e purpose of th e Group Soul to enforce th e action of th e law.Make no mistake in this. I am not suggesting that individualreason or intuition should be stultified by refusal to consider anyquestion of life or policy, or th e individual right to form opinionsor methods of action therefrom. These ar e effects of normal ratiocination and ar e individual processes .I f a body of disciples pledged to action upon th e highest principles known to them have decided to tread a certain clearly definedpath to a desired end and to accept th e guidance of those who havetrodden that path to it s end, that body of disciples as a whole owesallegiance, support, an d obedience to those guides an d owe brotherly love and help to their fellow disciples. Th e more they may differpersonally in opinions or methods of action in other fields of life,th e greater should be their efforts to refrain from jeopardizing th elife and usefulness of the group as a whole, which depend upon adherence to th e principles upon which th e group is formed. I f unableto successfully make such effort, there is bu t one honorable coursefor any unit of that group to pursue, i. e., withdrawal from th egroup, both fo r his individual good and for the best good of th egroup, even if it be bu t a temporary withdrawal until adjustmentmay be made.A door fo r th e entrance of th e Disintegrator is left open ifthere is strong opposition to th e accepted principles of the majorityof a group, however innocent of wrong intent the opposing ones ma ybe, and th e combined opposition of the majority of th e group wouldseriously affect the others. While this is more or less true in th ecase of any organized body, it is fa r more true in an organized bodr

Butthose high entities back of evolutionary la w an d all life respondto man' s prayers according to the power an d attitude of thesender: those prayers go forth into the realms of inner planeswhere they ar e answered in accordance with their inherent power.

In the occult realm, forces of energy ar e interchangeable invarying degrees, an d true prayer is created as a result of the combination of the forms of energy of thought an d words, an d is sentforth to the highest realms of being where the Masters of Love an dCompassion hear an d respond according to the power an d force ofthe supplicant.A heart filled with love an d faith, in renunciation of self, invoking the highest impersonal forces an d praying in the spint of"Not my will bu t Thine be done," leaving the results to the GreatLa w of Divine Wisdom, is answered for the greatest good of aU.A selfish prayer with motive of personal gain does not go veryfar, because "i t meets on an interior plane other forms of the sameenergy, the desires of which are in opposition to it, an d on e neutralizes or destroys the other, an d the consequence is neither desirereaches those who have the power to answer ...

He ha s no need to measure his status, it is a hindrancean d a great one to be constantly thinking of where one stands, whether one is above or below some entity; it is a wrong stand-point. SOCIAL SCIENCETheosophy, Temple Teachings, and New Thought.

There is, at times of a recrudescence of New Thought, Christian Science, an d Mental Healing, a tendency frequently noticeable toconfuse these issues with Theosophy.New Thoughtism and Theosophy are not the same. l\Iary Bake r Glover Eddy and Helena Petrovna Blavatsky are two entities a;:;different as are their philoRophies. And their disciples, apostles.and martyrs are different. Occasionally an Eddyite slips over thcH. P. B. camp, and less frequently a Theosophist who has a sciaticathat she can't ge t rid of, or who has all too easily got rid of her money and wants it back again, will go over to the Mary Baker camp. But, taken by and large, the difference between the two forces per-Brochures or even tomes might be written on this differente'.nu t let UR boil them down 10 crux, a quintessencf'. an epitomrwhat that distinction is ano h,uye it at that. The Divine-:.I.lental-Chrisiian-Sdence, ~ p w Thought, group"u:;c mental anrl spiritual forces fr certain specifie end:;:

THE TEMPLE ARTISAN 1lThe Theosophist groups use mental and spiritual forces forcertain specific end s:' ' ' 'hat are those ends?(1 ) New Thought offers, through a \'ast literat ure, thousandsof churches, innumerable and successful teachers, re ward for workdone on the spiritual plane.(2 ) So does Theosophy.(1) New Thought offers health and wealth,-a successfulbody and a successful environment. From them is supposed to bow .a successful world.(2 ) Theosophy does not.(1 ) The New Thoughter may and is encouraged to utilize anthe spiritual powers he can control or buy fo r the purpose of attaining for hirnself those ends whieh he hirnself thinks that he needsfor hirnself for his own advantage, happiness, and success.(2) To the Theosophist all this is forbidden.Without taking the time and space to quote from the shiploadsof New Thought literature, "Science of Health", "Unity", " N a u t i ~ lus", and all th e rest of them, let us take it as given that this literature preaches every kind of success to be acquired by the student

through psychic and spiritual praeti ce. Anyone who does not realize this may open any page of any New Thought publication, turnto any paragraph, and begin reading. He may continue reading tillhe has read the whole fifty-year literature, and he will still be reading that same paragraph. Any man who has read two distinctive, exegetic paragraphs from one Christian Science or New Thoughtbook has read them an.H was said that Robert Ingersoll spent his life threshing thesame straw. So did Henry George. But they threshed it. So didthe New Thoughters. They said it an on the first page, and thenthey said it over again through forty libraries full of books. The material of Theosophy is inexhaustible, and with the discovery or comprehension of th e Fourth Dimension it s literature maybe said only to have made a good start. A man may read in "TheSecret Doctrine", "Isis Unveiled", in the works of the mystics, occlllti8tS, Rosicrucians, Theosophists, in the Temple Teachings, or inthc New Physics for a wholc life-time and hardly read th e samething twice. 12 THE TEMPLE ARTlSANusing occult powerChrist'::; persecutors, while they watched Him die, summed upthe difference between M. B. E. and H. P. B. in one succinct sentence:"He saved others: Himself He cannot save 1"M. B. E. wore an eight hundred dollar ermine cloak. H. P. B.

died in poverty. She would have died in poverty years sooner hutfor he r friends. New Thought has made thousands of successfulrealtors, salesmen, lawyers, and speculators. Theosophy, Christ, and the service of the Lodge have hrought countless people to thePotter's Field.I t is said that W. Q. Judge ne ver permitted Theosophy, occultism, or religion to be talked in his office nor thought about suchthings in office hours. This means that he never used spiritual power or Lodge forces to help him "get business". New Thought attor-neys practice occult methods in their profession all the time andboast of the business it brings them. The president of the U. of C. Theosophical Club said to the writer: "I am going to be a sehool teacher because that's where I canget over my message".The same day a New Thought lecturer in Berkley said, "By my

method I can make you nationally and internationally famous inyour profession".The last I heard of number one he was still getting over hismessage. The last I heard of number two she had cleared up twenty thousand dollars in Oakland from Bay Cities business men whowanted a better automobile and a bigger house. .New Thought said to Jesus, "Cast Thyself down, and I will giveThee all the kingdoms of the earth". J esus repIied, "Get thee behind me, Satan!""Unity" oifers to sell your real estate at a profit. Jesus hadnot where to lay His head. "Nautilus" will make you rich. TheTemple Teachings won't. The medieval Rosicrucians took the oathof poverty: the Los Angeles mental science men take the oath ofwealth. This is not an argument fo r poverty. Poverty is . unscientific, immoral, and disgusting. Le t us all be rieh. We shall be when theAquarian Age has begun the ordination of a new race, when co-operation and economic fraternity have taken the place of NewThought get-rich-quick sehemes.Another point. There is that old confiict between emironment and .Man. NewThought says that all environment comes from thought and consciousness. Materialism says that Man and his thought and consciousness come from environment. Theosophy says that Man andhis environment are two halves of one contemporaneous and organic'."hole. When the New Thoughter says, "All your environment 1S

1:)THE TEI\lI'LE r \ R T I S A ~ the result ()f your thought." and when the radical determinist ~ a y s , "All your thoughts and con"ciousness are thc real result of your environment," both are \yrong.Theosophy says: "Your though ts rcact in environment; yourenvironment reacts in thought. Neither had a beginning; neitherwill ever end."Let us take two instances of en\'ironment acting on eonsciousness. Henry Ford found his workmen spitting tobacco juice intothe corners of his factory rooms. Did he preach to them or try tochange their consciousness? No. He paint ed every corner in hisfactory a pearly white. Men don't spit on a pearly white fioor. That e n d ~ d it . A change in the men's environment changed them.In the Ghetto of Prague the Jewis h men wore long braids. The orthodox Russian J ewish women in the Ghettos of the Ukraine wore wigs. The Chinaman wore a pigtail. In New York these baards, wigs, and pigtails are discarded, and rou have young Jewish and Chinese Americans who ehew gum, dance tangos, and take Ph. D's at the University of New York. These beards, wigs, and pigtails had persisted for thousands of years. I f environment had not changed they would have been worn forever. Instances like these could fill all the shelves of the Halcyon library. Enough to say this: Thought will change environment up toa certain point. Environment will change consciousness up to a certain point. Theosophy and the Temple Teachings teach us tochange our thoughts and to change, if possible, all the untowardcircumstances under which we and our brothers live. About thecruel condition under which millions of our brothers have to spendtheir lives New Thought and Christian Science say nothing, nor how

to change such conditions. The Temple does. The :Master who organized the Temple placed it upon two bases:The Teachings and the Land. I f either fails, so does the other. Hesays so. Let us quote Him:Lesson 16: "Unless the Temple can be made the refuge of thethc resting place of the weary, the home of the homeless, itmust fall in it s mission . . . . . . . . "Lesson 32: "He, the chela, must have learned how to reach ou ta brimming cup of compassion to all others in need, but he m'Jstdeny himself a draught from the same cup and remain c o m f o r t l e ~ s , unless some other traveler on the same path intuitively feels andsupplies his need."Lesson 12: "Some of you are frequently asked why mental healing is not openly advocated by Temple members. As weIl might theyask a 8choolboy why he does not perform a difficult (surgical) operation or take upon himself the care of a case of typhoid fever."LesBon 3: " It seldom occurs to the advocates of modern mental~ c i e n c e that the exercise of the affirmative power . . . . . . may resultdlsastrously to themselyes as weIl 80S to such ignorant and innocent

Before hirn humanity wa::; hermaphrodite. While Seth is th e first result (physiologically) after th e 'Fall', he 1So.lso th e first man; henee his son Enos is referred t( 1 ss th c 'Son of':Han'."

"Cain --is he son of the 'Lord' not of Adam." "Seth, on thcother hand. is the leader and progenitor of th e Races of thc Earth;fo r he is th e son of Adam, exoterically, bu t esoterically he i3 ih eprogeny of Cain and Abe!. since Abel or Hebel is a female, th e counterpart and female half of the male Cain, and Adam is the eolleetivename fo r man and woman. 'Male and female created He t h em - amI called their name Adam'.'"

"Verse 26 of Chapter IV. of Genesis, when read correctly, wouldalone give them such a right. for it calls the new Race of mensprung from Seth and Enos-Jehovah, something quite differentfrom the translation adopted in the Eible."

"The verses in Genesis from Chapters 1. to V. are purposely mixed up for Kabalistic reasons. After the 'Man' of Genesis 1:26, and Enos. th e Son of Man, of IV:26 after Adam, the first Androgyne; after Adam Kadmon-the sexless (the first) Logos-Adam and Eve onee separated, come finally Jerhovah-Eve and Cain-Jehovah. These represent distinct Root-Races, fo r millions of years elapsed between them."

The above are excerpts from "The Secret Doctrine"! VoL lI.,pages 132 to 135 inclusive. They are rieh in symbolie meaning, asthe reader's intuition must diseern. .Take, fo r instance, th e symbolie significanee of th e feminineand masculine eomposition of Abel and Cain-Abel as th e femalohalf of th e male Cain. From this standpoint what would be th emeaning of th e murder of Abel by Cain. Regarding this entity asarace, it could only mean th e killing out of suppression of th e feminine or intuitive instincts in that raee by th e masculine powers eoming into dominating existenee as intellection or reason. And is notthc "mark of Cain" whieh th e Lord pu t on his forehead simply th esign of development of th e front part of th e brain, which is thereasoning or intellectual part, and which exeessive development ha skilled out or stifted the intuitive or finer feminine impulses, whichknow without th e elaborate processes of intellectual reasoning?I t will be noted that Adam and his progeny stand as symbo1sfo r races. Up to the latter part of the Third Root Race, these wereall androgynous. Beginning with the race designated by the termEnos th e two sexes came into manifestation, and the processes ofgeneration accordingly ehanged. There is apar t of th e human organism that represents, and is,th e Third Root Race. The first necessity for obtaining self-knowledge is to become profoundly conscious of ignorance; to feel with every fibre of the heartthat one is self-deceived.

The second requisite ia the still deeper conviction that such knowledge -such intuitive and certain knowledge-can be obtained byeffort.

The third and most irnportant is an indomitable determination toobtain and face that knowledge.

Self knowledge of this kind is unattainable by what mencall "self-analysis". I t is no t reached by re9.soning or any brain process, for it is th e awakening to consciousness of the divine nature inman.

Soif we want to help Echo we must always find the beautiful ourselves."Narcissus and Echo are like two children going to school.

Some days they work nicely, play nicely together, and when theygo to bed at night they think of all the happy things that happenedthat day. They talk about them as they go to sleep, and next morning they wonder what kind of a day they will have together. I fthey have had a good day the day before and have tried to makethings go right, studied their lessons and worked weIl, they may besure the next day will be happy too, for one day calls to the nextday and is answered by the other, just like Narcissus and Echo calland answer . When you are busy and do your work well at schoolyou receive a gold star. It is 'put on to your paper, and you bringi t horne. When you are late or do not behave as you should yourname is written on the board. Wheneve r you look at the gold staryou are happy and you echo a song. Whe n you look at your nameon the board you are sad, and you echo unhappiness.

You see; Narcissus and Echo both live within ourselves. Theyar e ourselves, the way we work and live. Narcissus is a beautifulfairY within us, and Echo the voice that speaks to us night andmorning when we ar e alone and teIls us what kind of a day we havespent. You know that voice. You often call 'Good girl, Mama rafter you have gone to bed.EverYthing we think or do is written down somewhere, on paper, on the board, in th e sky, inthe air, in a flower, in a little girl'sface, in the grass, some way, and some time we will have to read ita11, think about it . Every child has a Guardian Angel who writesdown everything that happens to the child in a Book of Life. So if

The trained Theosophists are breakingup into little groups, so they are not prepared to meet the organizedbodies of the orthodox churches, who ar e opposed to Theosophy inany form. You see a11 these first mentioned organizations have taken theteachings of the Master in the "Secret Doctrine" and "lais Unveiled" fo r their philosophical basis; bu t instead of bearing on the dangers of psychic methods, they are increasing the desire in their stu-dents fo r the use of such methods by advertising the sale of magiemirrors, Ouija boards, crystal balls and other things and showing. how to use them. They claim the free distribution of their teachings bu t ask fo rfree will offerings to pay for printing them. THE TEMPLE ARTISANtheir grievances, real or personal, and combine to fight a11 this psychic and spiritualistic ro t now being taught a1l over the world, therewould be some hope. But the more I see of the spread of such literature as is that of the books and teachings before mentioned, andthe more I hear of the groups forming for the practice of what isactually black magie, the more alarmed I am .Perhaps you will remember that Master once warned us of thedanger of an era of witcheraft in the present age; and certain unprogressed orthodox bodies might easily be grouped together byfanatic urge to inhibit religious Iiberty and independent thinking, and would not hesitate to burn and torture anyone classed as aTheosophist, if publie antipathy were awakened against those indulging in the before mentioned praetiees. Sinee Master has warned us of the danger of bringing on such aperiod of witehcraft ashas existed in former ages it is easy to see just how it is being done. The Orthodox Chureh that is behind all the repressive lawsnow being made against the liberties of the people, such as freespeech, Prohibition, Sunday observanees, etc., is preparing to eomba t psyehism; and the first thing we know even Theosophis ts willbe thrown into prison and tortured for their beliefs in and practicesof black magie as is being taught by a lot of those self advertisedteaehers. or state of matter is just beyond the solid, liquid and ,gaseousthc !hysical plane. It is much rarer :md more subtle than anyof the last name states of matter. Thc etheric double is attached to thegrosser forms of matter, atom by atom, molccule by molecule, but the attachment is so slight that it is easily broken and the etheric double may bewithdrawn and, under certain circumstances, appear at some distance fromthe physical body. Much of the phenomena produced at spiritualistic seancesis brought about by the etheric double of the medium, when the phenomcnais genuine. Its substance is very fluidic and can be elongated and expanded atthe will of the medium. It will reflect the image of any picture in the mindof the medium, when it has been withdrawn at the instance of a highly developed will, even while the senses of the physical body are stilled as insleep or in trance. A trained psychic can reflect the images of each one in aroom fuH of people, on his own etheric double and so deceive them into beIieving they have seen some deceased relative Or f riend.Th e Etheric Double has no will nor mind apart from the will and mindof the physical man. It forms a medium of cornrnunication bctween the souland body of man similar to that of the etheric waves set in motion betweenwireless telegraph stations. It is this etheric double that is sometimes seenhovering over the grave of a body recently buried. It cannot entirely leavethe place until all the gross matter of the body has disintegrated and returnedto the elements, and it is primarilr for this reason that many Occultists insiston cremation. However, this belief does not universally obtain for the reasonthat the process of disintegration, however accomplished, is the work of thefiery elementals and, if undisturbed, they will do it in nature's own way;otherwise through cremation there may be an interference with karmic action. The etheric body has a certain life of its own and the average man is not wiseenough to know whether he has a right to take that life any more than he hasthe right to take the life of the physical body. He does not know just whatpart the etheric double may play in the regeneration of the soul. It was thepersistence of the etheric double after the death of the physical form that ledthe ancient Egyptians to preserve the latter.(End of Part One)

SELECTIONS FROM A PRIVATE MESSAGEGIVEN BY MASTER H.Divine Justice and Compassion are thwarte d and killed in the he art thatharbors a sense of injury. Tbat heart cannot render justice when it is filled

with thoughts of injustice toward others.Man cannot be tme to God if he is not tme to the White Lodge, whichis God in manifestation, nor tme to his solemn obligations to the same. It isa travesty on the world Law for one to demand that the Law shall mle whenthe fundamental action of that Law, which is centralization, i5 ignored :mdset aside. If one party to a controversy persist in ignoring any means which mightprove his adversary in the right, and so persists because he desires to carrysome personal desire or opinion into effect, he not only wrongs his adversarybut he build5 up a wall between hirnself and his God.Nothing will excuse the repudiation of an established Lodge Center bya disciple. Tbe edicts of Law are built up by centralization. If you believe in the fulfillrnent of Divine Law you know that the Lodge

I f you are great cnough in soul to acknowledge whatever wwng you mayhaye committed, whether intentional or unintentional, make an honest selfexamin:ltion; prove your boasted desire for justice by being just to each other;prove your love and compassion for humanity by being loving and compassionate to each other. Prove your willingness to serve God by serving theGod in each other. Prove your ability for discipleship by obeying the lawsof discipleship. Turn to and help U5 prepare for the Coming of the BlessedOne, instead of making it impossible for Hirn to come among you.If you will do these things rou will be swept on in the Rood tide of theWhite Lodge force to final success. If you will not do these things you will go down and out of incarnation, the world no better for YOUf having been in it, your opportunities wasted, disaster following in your wake.It is yours to choose. THE IMPROBABILITY OF FL YING SAUCERSThe ideas presented in this paper are possibly controversial, but theirpresentation is basecl on material summarized by one point of view. Tbispoint of view is offered with no authority or sanction either from TbeTemple Te1chers or the entities who may be arriving he re from outer space.Interpretation and logic are very apt to be wrong as right. There is muchmore emphasis on the printed Teachings than on the popular conception ofan idc:l summarized by the words "Rying saucers."The Prophet Ezekiel, "looking toward the north beheld four wheels likeunto the color of beryl, and they four had one Iikeness, and their appearance:lnd their work W:lS as it were a wheel in the middle of a wheeI." Precedingand subsequent descriptions of these wheeIs make it quite dear that all was a\"ision, carrying with it, nevertheless, an immense impact of conviction andreality on the thoughts of men who Iived aftcr Ezekiel. The wheels that h:lve been reported in the skies since the time of Ezekiel(and his were not the first ) have probably also been visions, sincere, for themost part, strictly realistic to the observer, and frequently corroborated at thetime of visibility by other obseryers. Time will tell as to whether there is anyvalid prophecy or influence, spiritual or material of these viewings. To date there has been no evidence except hope, belief, and faith, ofmlterial visitations of other self-conscious, self-controlled entities, arrivingon this planet earth by way of physicaI sense perception for any purpose, however arbitrary Of exalted. Volumes have been documented and an arm}'of witnesses, recruited from all walks of life, to verifr the idea that otherentities are arriving on this planet. Tbeir physical size, color and anatomyare as va ried as their reasons for here. Total destruction, curiosity:lnd total salvation are the objectives.
