Building a
professional learning
community
I would like to acknowledge and say thank you to students,
staff and families for their contributions this term. It has been
a busy term and staff continue to show their dedication and
commitment to making sure every student has the ability to
learn, achieve and succeed by providing interesting and
engaging learning opportunities. Education Week, Bluearth,
Book Week, Life Education Van and Footsteps are some of
the events that have taken place this term. Students
performed in the Market Place for Education Week and at
the Supernova event at the Civic Theatre.
In PDHPE students have been learning more about
protective behaviours with Mr Young and Mrs Nelson. Our
senior students have engaged in numerous in-school work
experience opportunities including making slices and
milkshakes to sell and work placements in the community at
The Smith Family and Bunnings. For sport students in the
High School continue to access Riding for Disabled, Ten Pin
Bowling and various in-school sports. Our Student
Representative Council (SRC) continues to make an
outstanding contribution to our school and wider community
through organising and running various fundraising events.
We have continued to replace and update technology across
the school with the installation of three interactive
whiteboards and desktop computers have been purchased
for all classrooms. The following work has also occurred
during the term: the blinds in the library have been replaced;
a new kitchen has been installed in the senior common area;
all curtains have been replaced in the bathrooms across the
school; and work on the irrigation system across the school,
including the installation of pumps for all the water tanks, has
been completed.
In the last 2 years the school and the P&C have worked
closely to raise funds to upgrade the Primary Playground.
The tender process through the Department of Education
has been opened and will close on the 2 October. We are
hopeful that the construction of the new playground will begin
during the Christmas break. Thank you to the P&C for their
support in making this possible.
Farewell to Pamela Steer who is taking maternity leave
starting next term. On behalf of the students and staff I would
like to wish Pamela and her husband all the best. Thank you
to Pamela for her ongoing delivery of quality learning
experiences for students in our school.
On Friday 20 September the Year 12 Graduation was held at
the RSL Club. This was a wonderful evening for students,
families and staff to come together to celebrate and
acknowledge the graduating students. This is one of the most
important and enjoyable events in our school calendar.
Congratulations and best wishes to the class of 2019 Asha
Daley, Charlie Crouch, Jack Ritchie, Jaiden Martin and
Michael Payne. Thank you to Jessica Murray, Margaret
Maher, and all the other staff who have worked hard to make
this evening possible.
A gentle reminder that staff are on duty from 8.45am in the
morning and that school finishes at 3.00pm. Students must
have approved leave if they are leaving between 9.00am and
3.00pm. Being on time and present at the beginning of the
day is important as it prepares students for their day. When
students are late it disrupts their morning routine and the
learning of other students. We ask that all families drop off
and pick up their children at the appropriate times. If you
require assistance or have any questions please do not
hesitate to contact the school.
I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable holiday and I look forward to catching up in Term 4.

Work experience has provided a valuable opportunity for
students to:
Develop employability skills.
Acquire important generic work skills and develop
positive attitudes to the world of work.
Understand employer expectations.
Increase their self-understanding, maturity,
independence and self-confidence.
Explore or expand their possible career options.
Develop community connections.
Students who have work experience during high school
are twice as likely to have a job and will earn more
money after they graduate. In addition, work experience
increases self-esteem and gives the student more
confidence within the school and wider community.
We need support from our local businesses to continue to develop and extend quality work experience opportunities for our students.
Please contact the school for more information about supporting the work experience program.
