INTRODUCING……
NEW STAFF MEMBER:
Bernard O’Baoill
- TAS -
My earliest memory is … my first day at school
… and trying to run away.
At school … when I stopped running away, I
made friends for life.
I wish I’d never … stopped running long cross
country races.
My mother and father always told me … “If a
job is worth doing, it‟s worth doing well”.
I wish I had … a „transporter‟ (Star Trek style) for
quick visits to my family/friends in Ireland.
My happiest moments are … standing back and
looking at students doing their work well.
My last meal would be … seafood risotto.
I’m very bad at … accepting failure.
If I were a car I’d be … a Volvo.
P&C NEWS
At our first P&C meeting for the year, we re-
ceived nearly $30,000 worth of funding requests
for various projects from teachers and staff. We
decided more time was required to consider the
need and priority of all projects, before making
decisions at our next meeting.
These funding requests illustrate the vital role
P&C plays within the Duval community. Input
from all P&C members is encouraged - please
contact the school if you would like to be in-
volved in this process.
The next meeting will commence with our Annual
General Meeting; which includes the election of
office bearers and formation of Committees. It is
scheduled for 6pm on Wednesday 27th April in
the DHS Staff Common Room.
We look forward to seeing you there!

HARMONY DAY
Harmony Day, 21st March, celebrates Australia‟s
cultural diversity. It‟s about inclusiveness, re-
spect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
It is a day for all Australians to embrace cultural
diversity and to share what we have in common.
The central message for Harmony Day is that
„everyone belongs‟, reinforcing the importance
of inclusiveness to all Australians.

SPORT FOR LIFE: LIFESAVING &
AQUATICS EXCURSION
Year 8 Sport For Life students have been working
hard during Term 1 to achieve qualifications in
lifesaving and aquatics. Students have participat-
ed in weeks of swimming and rescue skills to
achieve their Bronze Star award. They have also
passed their Resuscitation practical exam.
During Week 6, students travelled to Coffs Har-
bour to attend a Surf Safety course. Students did
Iron Man challenges, board rescues, CPR and
learned the finer points of surfing. Fun was had at
the Big Banana Water Park and ice skating rink.
Year 8 is to be congratulated on their hard work
during Term 1.

SPORT, LIFESTYLE & RECREATION
Students in Year 11 SLR have a spring in their
step! Students have been honing their technique
in gymnastics over the past term, culminating in
individual performances of floor routines for their
assessment.
On Friday, 18th March, students had to perform a
set routine composed of 11 skills with varying de-
grees of difficulty. This routine is derived from
the National Development Program-Level 1 Prep-
aration Floor. They also had to use a universal
scale to mark other students. The class were for-
tunate to be mentored by talented gymnasts,
Bianca Kiehne and Brooke Burton.
All students performed their routines, demon-
strating maturity and advanced skills and are to
be congratulated on their effort.

LAWN BOWLS
Aaron Kelly (Year 12), the remaining member of
the very successful 2014 and 2015 Triples Lawn
Bowls Team, welcomed Hadi Hussein (Year 9)
and Savo Stankovich (Year 8) to the fold. The
team played Glen Innes High on Friday 18th
March in very windy conditions. The team held
their own until the end; going down 8 to 19. The
boys are to be congratulated on a gallant effort in
difficult conditions. We wish Glen Innes High all
the best in the competition.
