Dear Fellow Wildcats,

It is hard to believe we only have one nine- week grading period left of the 2014-2015 school year. Where has the time gone? With the last quarter of the year upon us, there are many im-portant happenings on the horizon. Soon after spring break, students will be taking the new ACT Aspire Test, PASS, EOCs, and end of the year exams. It is of the utmost importance that each student is present, on time to each class, focused on school, and is displaying only his/her very best behavior in order to end the year on the best note possible! As we all look forward to spring break, please enjoy this time with your family and friends, be safe, and come back ready to end the year being able to say you have done your absolute best!

Waccamaw Middle School Band

Enjoys State Festival Victory On Wednesday, March 25, 2015, the Waccamaw Middle School Band reigned “superior” once again. Select students traveled to Charleston for the South Carolina State Festival, a competition which took place at the Charleston School of The Arts. After a quick warm up, the band took the stage where the main performance occurred.

Their first piece was At Twilight, featuring a saxophone solo performed by Mar-cus Richardson, a percussion solo by Lexi Hill, a timpani solo by Ben Stover, a trumpet solo by Hannah Miller, and a flute duet by Leighton Rapps and Olivia Welsh. Teachers Have the Luck of the Irish “Potato”

on St. Patrick’s Day Thank you very much to the Culture and Climate Committee of WMS for providing a potato bar for all of the staff on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 for lunch. Everyone had an incredible meal and it was a great success. This event was orga-nized by Ms. Judith Buzzell, Ms. Jamie Chara, Ms. Jamie Curry, Mr. Travis Klat-ka, Mrs. Pamela Plexico, and Mrs. Kathie Rasheed. Thanks again to all who par-ticipated in the planning of the potato bar. It was so much fun to enjoy this deli-cious lunch and have time to visit with colleagues!

NAEP Testing Helps with National Comparison A portion of Waccamaw Middle’s eighth grade students were randomly selected to participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress, or NAEP. This test compares WMS students’ scores to other students’ scores across the country. The results of the NAEP will be released to be included in the nation’s report card, which will provide student achievement records to educators, parents, and the public. The NAEP was admin-istered at Waccamaw Middle School on February 24, 2015. The selected students took the test in one of the following subjects: mathematics, reading, or science. In addition, students were also asked questions about their educational experiences, such as the amount of reading they do and what kind of classes they take.

Band Honor—Continued from Page 1

After a round of applause, the band went straight to the sight reading room. This is where they were giv-en a piece of music they had never-seen before. Af-ter viewing it briefly, they were told to play the mu-sic. Finally, the students returned to the buses where they received the news that they had achieved the highest possible ranking, a Superior. Congratula-tions to everyone who performed, attended the trip, and to Mrs. Nancy Randall, the WMS band direc-tor.
