SPRING 2015 East Liberty Family Health Care Center
A Christian Ministry ofWhole Person Healthcare
IN THE
We serve more than 8,000 patients each year inmore than 33,000 visits as we deliver whole-personcare to our uninsured, underinsured, and underservedneighbors from the East End of Pittsburgh.
Many of our donors and supporters keep asking,“When the Affordable Care Act is fully implemented, will the Center’s services still be needed?”
Our answer is, “More than ever.”
We are constantly adapting to a new health care environment. With God’s helpand yours, we have the ability to fill crucial access gaps that will remain after healthcare reform. Even as some previously uninsured people gain insurance, they stillhave complex medical issues that will require some enabling services before theycan access care.
We are a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and are an integral part ofthe health care network for the East End of Pittsburgh, providing comprehensiveprimary health and supportive services without regard to ability to pay. Our enablingservices include homebound elderly outreach, specialized drug/alcohol/HIV supportservices, health education/prevention services, translation, transportation and muchmore.
We are a “safety net” for patients. FQHCs are vital to our communities and to theimplementation of the Affordable Care Act. Many private providers may not be ableto serve the high numbers of the newly-insured individuals and families. FQHCs willbe willing and are able to serve this increased demand but will need sustained andeven increased financial support for enabling services to do so. East Liberty FamilyHealth Care Center is well positioned to serve since it has many diverse fundingstreams in addition to the 48% of its income it receives from patient revenue.
We are passionate in caring for our patients and look forward to continuing toprovide “healing and hope” to our neighbors. Thank you for supporting us in ourmission.
Sincerely yours,
Dr. Eileen Boyle, CEO

CELEBRATING
YEARS100
Allene is truly a Psalm 1 warrior. Sheis still “bearing fruit” and witnessingto Jesus to all who enter her home. She loves the Lord and lives for him!
100 year-old patientprovides inspirationAll of our patients are special and are a gift from God. But it isn’t
often that we have the pleasure of serving patients who have
reached the age of 100.
Allene celebrated her 100th birthday on October 5, 2014. Our
medical director Dr. David Hall and his wife Suzie were invited
to share this blessed occasion with her. Allene has been visited
by the Center’s Homebound Elderly Program staff since May 2,
2012. She is blind, lives alone in her own apartment and is
sharper than others who are much younger.
The Homebound Elderly staff makes home
visits three times a week with a doctor visit
as needed. Our goal is to keep Allene out
of the hospital and help her to thrive at
home, and thus far we have been able to
do that.
Allene has also been doing a little
fundraising for the health care center.
Instead of receiving gifts for her 100th
birthday party, Allene (with her faithful
friend Barb) asked that money be donated
to the Center instead.
After every visit with Allene we pray with
her. She in return always prays for Dr. Hall
and the finances of the Center and that
Jesus would provide so that more people
could receive the excellent care that she
receives. Allene is truly a Psalm 1 warrior.
She is still “bearing fruit” and witnessing
to Jesus to all who enter her home. She
loves the Lord and lives for him!
When asked what she would tell other
people about the care she receives from
the team, Allene was quick to respond.
“They are kind and so caring and treat me
very special. But the best thing is the
prayer before they leave. I really look
forward to praying.”
Congratulations, Allene!

The youth group from Saints John and Paul Roman
Catholic Parish, located in Sewickley, spent the Martin Luther
King, Jr. holiday weekend painting and cleaning our East
Liberty and Lincoln-Lemington sites. Eastminster Presbyterian
Church and Hebron Presbyterian Church had provided the
funds for these enhancements and these students stepped
forward to providethe labor.
Also painting and serving from the Center were Debbie
Paschall, development associate; Stephen Paschall, emeritus
board member; Heather Lawrence, office manager; and Ellie
Boyle, daughter of CEO
Dr. Eileen Boyle. With the funding we received from these two
partner churches, we were also able to hire two contractors to
help with preparing the walls and laying new floor tile.
Many thanks to our volunteers who donated theirtime to help us enhance the space that God has given us.

The Center Welcomes Two New Providers
With the help of federal funding through the
Health Resources and Services Administration
(HRSA), the Center is pleased to welcome two
new providers to our staff: Mary Ellen Cuccaro,
DMD, and Zylphia Ford, Physician Assistant.
Dr. Cuccaro serves dental patients at our Lincoln-
Lemington site. When she is fully credentialed for
the various insurances, she will serve at the
Hosanna House office. Ms. Ford will be serving
at our East Liberty site and will be rounding in
the hospitals with our doctors.
Please join us in welcoming them both to the
Center. We look forward to serving with them as
we reach out to our uninsured, underinsured and
underserved neighbors.

Each Christmas, the Center receives donations of toys from Toys for Tots to help brighten
the Christmas season for our pediatric patients and their families. This Christmas, due to a
last-minute administrative glitch, Toys for Tots of Pittsburgh was unable to serve.
Our need for toys was publicized by local media and one local law firm felt led to help us.
They donated the funds needed for our staff to go toy shopping. Ruggers
Pub and Green Tree Chiropractic also made generous donations of toys.
Marty Griffin of KDKA-TV publicized our need and we received several
responses. Several patients heard of our plight and also helped. A
Toys for Tots affiliate in Virginia heard of our need and rushed
toys to us.
Many thanks to these organizations for making Christmas special
for the families we serve. We are extremely grateful for their
spontaneous kindness and generosity.
