The Three Waves of the BoomersFirst–Wave Boomers
Second–Wave Boomers
Third–Wave Boomers
Born 1946-1952 Born 1953-1958 1959-1964Were high school seniors when President Kennedy was assassinated and college seniors when Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert Kennedy were assassinated.
Were children when Kennedy was assassinated and in middle school when Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert Kennedy were assassinated.
They have little or no memory of President Kennedy’s assassination and were children in 1968.
Were divided between those who embraced the counterculture and those who held on to the values of their parents. This divide is still seen in the political battles between the right and the left, which leaves little room for middle ground.
Raised on reruns of The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, and Star Trek, many in this group became the leaders of the digital age and created the first personal computers and software that now fuel the economy.
This group had to adapt to the changing patterns of childhood,as a large percentage of their parents went through divorce. The cultural norms of the 1950s were replaced by the uncertainty of a 60s culture that was in disarray.
7. Boomers are greatly concerned about the future for their children and grandchildren
