    1. Safety1.1. Safety Alert Symbol and Signal Words

    This safety alert symbol indicates important safety messages in this manual. When you seethis symbol, be alert to the possibility of injury or death, carefully read the message thatfollows, and inform others.

    1.2. General SafetyYOU are responsible for the SAFE assembly and installation of the wheel move kit. YOU must ensure that youand anyone else who is going to assemble/install the wheel move kit understands all procedures and relatedSAFETY information contained in this manual.

    Remember, YOU are the key to safety. Good safety practices not only protect you, but also the people aroundyou. Make these practices a working part of your safety program. All accidents can be avoided.

    • It is the wheel move kit assembler and installation personnel’s responsibility to readand understand ALL safety instructions, safety decals, and manuals and follow themwhen assembling, operating, or maintaining the equipment.

    • Only experienced personnel who are familiar with this type of assembly and installation should perform thiswork. Untrained assemblers/installers expose themselves and bystanders to possible serious injury or death.

    • Do not modify the wheel move kit in any way without written permission from the manufacturer.Unauthorized modification may impair the function and/or safety, and could affect the life of the wheelmove kit. Any unauthorized modification of the wheel move kit will void the warranty.

    1.3. Drives and Lockout SafetyInspect the power source(s) before using and know how to shut down in an emergency.Whenever you service or adjust your equipment, make sure you shut down the powersource and unplug or remove the key (as applicable) to prevent inadvertent start-up andhazardous energy release. Know the procedure(s) that applies to your equipment from thefollowing power source(s). Ensure that all personnel are clear before turning on power toequipment.

    1.3.1 Gas Engine SafetyPower Source

    • Keep guards in place and secure.

    • Properly ventilate surrounding area.

    • Never fill the fuel tank with the engine running, whilesmoking, or near an open flame. Always shut down and allowengine to cool before filling with fuel.

    • Never overfill the tank or spill fuel. If fuel is spilled, clean itup immediately.

    • Be sure to use the correct type and grade of fuel. Ground thefuel funnel or nozzle against the filler neck to prevent sparksthat could ignite fuel vapors.

    • Be sure to replace the fuel fill cap when you are done.

    Lockout

    • For engines with an electric start, remove the ignition key,the spark plug wire, or the spark plug.

    • For engines with a rope or crank start, remove the spark plugwire or the spark plug.

    1.3.2 Hydraulic Power SafetyPower Source

    • Refer to the rules and regulations applicable to the powersource operating your hydraulic drive.

    • Do not connect or disconnect hydraulic lines while system isunder pressure.

    • Keep all hydraulic lines away from moving parts and pinchpoints.

    • Escaping hydraulic fluid under pressure will cause seriousinjury if it penetrates the skin surface (serious infection ortoxic reaction can develop). See a doctor immediately ifinjured.

    • Use metal or wood as a backstop when searching forhydraulic leaks and wear proper hand and eye protection.

    • Check all hydraulic components are tight and in goodcondition. Replace any worn, cut, abraded, flattened, orcrimped hoses.

    • Clean the connections before connecting to equipment.

    • Do not attempt any makeshift repairs to the hydraulic fittingsor hoses with tape, clamps, or adhesive. The hydraulicsystem operates under extremely high pressure; such repairswill fail suddenly and create a hazardous and unsafecondition.

    Lockout

    • Always place all hydraulic controls in neutral and relievesystem pressure before disconnecting or working onhydraulic system.

    1.4. Tire SafetyFailure to follow proper procedures when mounting a tire on awheel or rim can produce an explosion that may result inserious injury or death.

    • DO NOT attempt to mount a tire unless you have the properequipment and experience to do the job.

    • Have a qualified tire dealer or repair service performrequired tire maintenance.

    • When replacing worn tires, make sure they meet the originaltire specifications. Never undersize the replacement tire.

    • DO NOT weld to the tire rim with the tire mounted on therim. This action may cause an explosion which could result inserious injury or death.

    • Inflate tires to the manufacturer’s recommended pressure.

    • Tires should not be operated at speeds higher than theirrated speed.

    • Keep wheel lug nuts tightened to manufacturer’srecommendations.

    • Never reinflate a tire that has been run flat or seriouslyunder-inflated without removing the tire from the wheel.Have the tire and wheel closely inspected for damage beforeremounting.

    1.5. Personal Protective EquipmentThe following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) should be worn when assembling the equipment.

    Safety Glasses• Wear safety glasses at all times to protect eyes from debris.

    Work Gloves• Wear work gloves to protect your hands from sharp and rough edges.

    Steel-Toe Boots• Wear steel-toe boots to protect feet from falling debris.

    Coveralls• Wear coveralls to protect skin.

    Hard Hat• Wear a hard hat to help protect your head.

    1.6. Safety EquipmentThe following safety equipment should be kept on site:

    Fire Extinguisher• Provide a fire extinguisher for use in case of an accident. Store in a highly visible and

    accessible place.

    First-Aid Kit• Have a properly-stocked first-aid kit available for use should the need arise, and

    know how to use it.

    1.7. Safety Decals• Keep safety decals clean and legible at all times.

    • Replace safety decals that are missing or have become illegible. See decal location figures that follow.

    • Replaced parts must display the same decal(s) as the original part.

    • Replacement safety decals are available free of charge from your distributor, dealer, or factory as applicable.

    1.7.1 Decal Installation/Replacement1. Decal area must be clean and dry, with a temperature above 50°F (10°C).

    2. Decide on the exact position before you remove the backing paper.

    3. Align the decal over the specified area and carefully press the small portion with the exposed sticky backingin place.

    4. Slowly peel back the remaining paper and carefully smooth the remaining portion of the decal in place.

    5. Small air pockets can be pierced with a pin and smoothed out using the sign backing paper.

    1.7.2 Safety Decal Locations and DetailsReplicas of the safety decals that are attached to the wheel move kit and their messages are shown in the figure(s) that follow. Safe operation and use of the wheel move kit requires that you familiarize yourself with the

    2. AssemblyBefore continuing, ensure you have completely read and understood this manual’sSafety section, in addition to the safety information in the section(s) below.

    2.1. Assembly Safety• Do not take chances with safety. The components can be large, heavy, and hard to handle. Always use the

    proper tools, rated lifting equipment, and lifting points for the job.

    • Carry out assembly in a large open area with a level surface.

    • Always have two or more people assembling the wheel move kit.

    • Make sure you have sufficient lighting for the work area.

    • Tighten all fasteners according to their specifications. Do not replace or substitute bolts, nuts, or otherhardware that is of lesser quality than the hardware supplied by the manufacturer.

    • Stay away from overhead power lines and other obstructions during assembly. Contact with power lines cancause electrocution.

    Ensure conveyor is in fully lowered position with hopper end on the ground before proceedingwith the assembly of the wheel move.

    2.2. Check ShipmentUnload the wheel move kit parts at the assembly site and compare the packing slip to the shipment. Ensure thatall items have arrived and that none are damaged.

    Report missing or damaged parts immediately to ensure that proper credit is received from AGI or yourdistributor/dealer, and to ensure that any missing parts can be shipped quickly to avoid holding up the assemblyprocess.

    ImportantDo not assemble or install damaged components.

    2.3. List of Required Tools• blocks, stands, jacks and hoists

    • 1 torque wrench

    • 1 standard 25' [7.62 m] tape measure

    • 2' [0.61 m] level

    • 1 tire gauge

    2.4. Before You BeginBefore you assemble the wheel move kit:

    • Familiarize yourself with all the sub-assemblies, components, and hardware that make up the equipment.

    • Have all parts and components on hand, and arrange them for easy access.

    • Separate the hardware (bolts, nuts, etc.) and lay them out into groups for easier identification duringassembly.

    • Ensure there is adequate space to remove the assembled wheel move kit from the assembly area.

    2.5. Hydraulic Fittings and Bolt TighteningRemember the following basic considerations when tightening hydraulic fittings and bolts:

    • Tighten all fasteners to the torque specified in Section 3.1. – Bolt Torque on page 43. Do not replace orsubstitute bolts, nuts, or other hardware that is of lesser quality than the hardware supplied by themanufacturer.

    All hydraulic fittings should be torqued to the recommended specifications. See Section 3.2. – FittingsTorque Values on page 44.

    Do not over-tighten fittings! Over-tightening hose fittings can crack the fittings or motor bodyand will void the warranty.

    2.6. Assemble the Wheel Move DriveNoteRepeat this section for the right and left side wheel move drive assemblies. The right and left sides aremirror images.

    Right-hand (RH) and left-hand (LH) sides — these terms apply when facing in the transport direction.

    1. Fasten the hydraulic motor assembly (1) to the wheel move axle tab (4) at point A using a 1/2" x 2" bolt (5),three 1/2" flat washers (6), and two 1/2" flange nuts (3); and at point B using a 1/2" x 2" bolt (5) and 1/2"locknut (2). See Figure 2.

    2. Attach the wheel (8) and ring gear (7) to the axle with wheel bolts (9).

    3. Installation of cushion block is covered in Section 2.11. – Install the Cushion Block on page 31.

    2.7. Assemble the CasterNoteRepeat this section for each caster assembly.

    1. Insert tire (2) into the fork (1). Place a long spacer (3) on the deep side of the rim and a short spacer (5) onthe shallow side of the rim. Secure using a 3/4" X 10" bolt (6) and a 3/4" nylock (4). Tighten the bolt. SeeFigure 3.

    2. Remove any burrs or rust from the shaft of the fork.

    2.8. Assemble the Slider1. Attach the fittings (2, 3) to the hydraulic cylinder (1) as shown in Figure 4.

    2. Attach the hydraulic hose (4) to the fitting close to the rod end. This hose is item M in Section 2.12. –Assemble the Hydraulic Hose on page 32.

    3. Install the hose (5) onto the fitting close to the cylinder end. This hose is item L in Section 2.12. – Assemblethe Hydraulic Hose on page 32.

    NoteKeep fittings and hoses free of dirt while assembling.

    4. Insert the wear plates (8) into the holes along the channel of the slider top weldment (7) as shown in Figure4.

    5. Position the hydraulic cylinder inside the slider top weldment. Slide the hydraulic rod through the pipe onthe top connector of the weldment.

    6. Secure the hydraulic cylinder to the slider as shown in Figure 5.

    a. Secure the hydraulic rod to the top of the slider with a 3/8" x 2" bolt (9) and a 3/8" locknut (10).

    b. Secure the hydraulic cylinder barrel to the bottom of the slider with a 1/2" x 2" bolt (11) and a 1/2"locknut (12).

    c. Tighten the bolts.

    2.9. Assemble the Wheel MoveFigure 6. Wheel Move

    1. Mount the axle weldment (7) to a holding device to prevent movement during assembly. Grease the axleand slide the walking beams (2) in as shown in Figure 7. Ensure the flanges where the walking beams andaxle meet are all aligned toward the intake end of the conveyor.

    2. Tap the bearings (1) into place on the ends of the walking beams.

    3. Insert the caster wheel through the bearings at each end of walking beam. Tap the top bearing to make surethat it is secure after installing the caster.

    Orient the caster wheel so that the side with bolt head is facing outward and the side withprotruding bolt end is toward the inside of the assembly to prevent operator injury.

    4. Secure each caster with the caster steering tab (3) using a 3/8" x 2-1/2" bolt (4) and a 3/8" locknut (5).Ensure that each caster steering tab is oriented inward as shown in Figure 7.

    5. Insert the pivot springs (6) into the spring pockets on the main axle body. Move the walking beams in so thesprings are held in place.

    6. Secure the walking beams to the axle ends (7) with a 1/2" x 1-1/2" bolt (8), 1/2" lock washer (9), and axleend cap (10) on each side. See Figure 8.

    NoteThis joint must pivot – do not over-tighten.

    7. Mount the hydraulic double cylinder (11) on the axle weldment using 3/8" x 2" bolts (12) and 3/8" locknuts(13) as shown in Figure 10.

    8. Fasten the tie rods (11a) into the ends of the cylinder (11) until 2 to 3 threads remain.

    9. On each walking beam, attach a piece of angle iron and clamp it onto the wheel forks to ensure all wheelsare straight and parallel. See Figure 9.

    10. Grease the steering pivot (14).

    11. Attach and orient the steering pivot on each walking beam as shown in Figure 10.

    12. Thread the steering link end (15) onto the steering link arm (16). See Figure 11.

    13. Attach steering link arm assembly to the caster steering tab shown in Figure 12. Insert two flat washers (18)in between the tabs and secure using a 1/2" x 1-1/2" bolt (17) and a 1/2" locknut (19). Use the steering linkend to adjust linkage length to get them all to fit.

    NoteThis joint must pivot – do not over-tighten.

    14. Attach the lower tab of the steering pivot to the steering link arm using 1/2" x 2" bolt (20), 1/2" flat washers(18), and 1/2" locknut (19).

    15. Connect the cylinder tie rod to the steering pivot using a steering link (21). To ensure proper clearancebetween steering linkage components, follow the bolt orientation as shown in Figure 12 and Figure 13.

    a. Attach one end to the upper tab of the steering pivot. Secure with a 1/2" x 1-1/2" bolt (17), 1/2" flatwasher (18), and 1/2" nut (19).

    b. Attach the other end of the steering link to the cylinder tie rod. Ensure the cylinder rod length is thesame on each side. Adjust the tie rod to get them all to fit. Secure with a 1/2" x 2" bolt (20), two 1/2"flat washers (18), and a 1/2" nut (19).

    NoteThis joint must pivot – do not over-tighten.

    2.10. Attach the Wheel Move to the Conveyor1. Lower the conveyor completely.

    2. Maneuver the wheel move into position.

    3. Attach the lower connector of the slider (1) to the axle body using two 1/2" x 1-1/2" bolts (2) and locknuts(3).

    NoteThis joint must pivot - do not over-tighten.

    4. Attach the slider upper connector to the tube bracket using two 1/2" x 1-1/2" bolts (2) and 1/2" locknuts(3). Ensure slider orientation is correct (see Figure 19).

    NoteThis joint must pivot - do not over-tighten.

    5. Attach the right-angle flanged ends of the transport frame pipes (4) to the tabs on the conveyor axle frameusing two 1/2" x 1-1/2" bolts (2) and 1/2" locknuts (3) per side as shown in Figure 20.

    6. Fasten cross braces (5) to the tabs on the transport frame pipes using 7/16" x 1-1/2" bolts (6) and 7/16"nuts (7). Secure the cross braces together using a 7/16" x 1-1/2" bolt (6), two 7/16" flat washers (8), and a7/16" nut (7). Leave the bolts loose at this point.

    7. Attach the tabbed ends of the transport pipes to tabs on both ends of the rear axle body (9) using a1/2" x 1-1/2" bolt (2) and 1/2" locknut (3) per side (see Figure 21).

    8. Tighten the bolts that secure the cross braces.

    9. Ensure that all wheels are engaged and the linkage functions smoothly. Check for clearance between thetires and transport frame pipes in all steering positions.

    1. Attach hoses A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2 to the cushion block. See Figure 24.

    2. Attach hydraulic hoses A1, A2, B1, and B2 to the hydraulic motors. See Figure 25.

    3. Secure hoses B1 and B2 to main axle with a plastic hydraulic clamp, one 1/4" x 3" tek screw, and two 1/4"flat washers.

    4. Connect the hoses D, E, G, H, and I to the hydraulic winch, pump, and oil tank as shown in Figure 26 orFigure 27. Route the hoses along the tube through the oil tank brackets.

    5. Continue routing the hoses (D, E, H and I) through the suspension bracket.

    6. Attach the rings, denoted by “R”, to the axle arm and transport pipe using 1/4" x 1" tek screws. Refer toFigure 28 and Figure 29.

    8. At the bottom of the lower frame, route hoses D, E, H, I and the adjoining hoses C1 and C2 through the rings(R) attached on the transport pipe towards the control arm weldment. See Figure 29.

    11. Route hoses C1, C2, D, E, H, I, K, J, L, and M through the control arm and up to the spool valve as shown inFigure 32.

    3.2. Fittings Torque ValuesThese specifications are for carbon steel. With Zinc plating always lubricate threads and seals. For stainlesssteel, use the high value of the torque range of steel. For brass, use 70% of the torque value of steel. For mixedmetals, use the torque of the lower of the two metals. Torque range is normally calculated +/- 10%.
