1st Day in London By Ainara Berbel

●We went to the airport at 6 am. So we all were a little bit tired.

On the plane, some people (like me) were sleeping, another

people were talking or singing.

●When we arrived at the London Gatwick airport, a coach was

waiting for us. Then the driver took us on a guided tour around

all London. On the bus, we saw the Big Ben and the tower of

London.

14

Page 15: What's up 3rd issue

● When time for lunch was approaching we got off the bus near

Trafalgar square. First of all, we went to eat something at

McDonalds.

15

Page 16: What's up 3rd issue

After that, we went to Trafalgar square and we visited the National Gallery.

Later we walked to Convent Garden and we visited this nice

area.

Finally, at 5:30 we got on the coach

again and headed for Wallington

where our host families picked us

To get to the British Museum we took the underground.

The British Museum is enormous. The students had to fill in a file

with questions about the museum. Inside there were pieces from

Egypt, Japan like samurai armour, from Greece, from African, and

from many more countries.

eTwinning project

Time Capsule

by Xènia, Laia, Saida and Marta

50

Page 51: What's up 3rd issue

What is eTwinning? Etwinning is a community where teachers and students of schools all over Europe exchange opinions, give ideas and carry out projects.

What did the students of 3rd of ESO group 2 did?

The project that we have carried out is called “The time capsule” and it consists of deciding what objects of our century we must put in a box and bury so that the people of the next century can know how we live now.

First we have writtenletters about ourselves, then we have exchanged ideas with all the members of “the time capsule” project from the other countries. Also we have made Christmas cards and we have given our ideas about what we can put in the capsule time through the etwinning twinspace. Then we have taking some photos.

51

Page 52: What's up 3rd issue

Interview: (Saida Payan)

• Did you like this experience?

Yes, I think this project is interesting. I’d like to know how people lived in the past.

• What do you like put in the capsule of time?

I would like to put one CD that collects the best singles of the moment.

• Did you like exchange opinions whit different people of Europe?

Yes, because it’s a way of knowing about the cultures of the other countries in the world.

• Would you like to repeat this project?

Yes, but I’ll prefer to carry out another project.

‘‘EXPORECERCA JOVE’’

• From the 26th to 28th March the the sixteenth edition of the Young Exporesearch (Exporecerca Jove) was held in the URL-La Sallecampus. The INS Thalassa took part in it for the first time with three projects, with students of 1st and 2nd ESO.

• Ona Aldea, Álvaro Ares, Paula Hernández and Júlia Martín from 2nd ESO won the award of "Science in Society": consisting of a set of books. They made a 3D book thinking of diversity. The name of their project was “design and creation of a book for 3D primary and/or visually impaired”.

54

Page 55: What's up 3rd issue

INTERVIEW TO ONA ALDEA, ONE OF THE WINNERS OF

THE SCIENCE AND SOCIETY AWARD. • What’s the '‘Exporecerca Jove''?

• It’s an international competition. First of all, apart from doing experimental work, you have to present a report to be accepted in the contest. If so, there are three days when you go to La Salle University, where it takes place. There each group has its stall where the project is exhibited. During the three days people come and ask you about your project, but also the judges come to assess your work.

• How did you have the idea of a digital book?

• My technology teacher, instead of following the normal syllabus of the book, decided that we could make a three-dimensional book for of 5th and 6th primary pupils. Each group had to find the information they believe was necessary to put it in the book. As we had to put some material in relief, we thought that the book could also be aimed at people that are visually impaired.

55

Page 56: What's up 3rd issue

• How does it feel knowing that you’re helping people and you have won an award for that?

• I feel very good knowing that I have been able to help many people who needed some help, and above all it was a surprise to have won. The whole group did an excellent work.

The course

0 Two months ago Thalassa’s AMPA organised a public presentation course for students that are shy or want to enhance their public presentations. The course lasted six hours.

0 The teacher, Marta, gave the students many tips not to get nervous or not to be without words. She explained us how to control the voice level and speed, too.

61

Page 62: What's up 3rd issue

Interview to Marc Ramos 0 Interviewer : Why did you enrol the course?

0 Marc: because I wanted to improve my speaking skills when talking on my you tube channel and for our presentations at school, too.

0 Interviewer: Which was the trick that helps you more?

0 Marc: The trick that helps me more was the trick 4 . It says that when you get without words, you can ask to the listeners to give you time to remember. That was a good trick!

0 Interviewer: Do you think that the teacher explains well and make the classes funny and short?

0 Marc: I think that Marta is nice and explains very well, we do a lot of practices and oral exercises, so the classes seem shorter . I really enjoy them.

62

Page 63: What's up 3rd issue

0 Interviewer: Was the course helpful to you?

0 Marc: Yes, now when I’m making a video I remember all the tricks and I speak more fluently and I am less ashamed when I have to speak.

0 Interviewer: Do you recommend it?

0 Marc RM: Yes, especially to shy people or people that have stage fright.

RUSCULTURA by Aina Lobera

67

Page 68: What's up 3rd issue

1st ESO students and teachers have participated in the project: Open systems. Experimental artistic and scientific creativity

of MAGBA.

They've done a project on bees, and they've called it “Ruscultura”. The students have made a honeycomb and they've drawn a giant bee, they didn't have much budget, so they've done everything

with cardboard and wood brought from home. But the honeycomb looks very well!

It's a very good project because it's a multidisciplinary work. In technology they've made the drawing of the honeycomb, in art they've learned how to do a hexagon, in mathematics

they've worked with bubbles, in music they've done percussion With hexagonal instruments, etc... They also have spoken with a specialist about the bee venom and he has explained them

many interesting things, and the 25th of march they made the presentation and a excursion to MAGBA .

INTERVIEW TO JUDIT PADRÓS (student of 1st ESO)

- What is the thing you've liked most of the project about the bees? The most I've liked of the project is working in team and working with my friends.

- Do you think this project is useful for you?

Yes, because I've learned a lot of new things like to organize myself.

- What did you learn while you were doing this project? I've learned the bees are very important for our life, and we are destroying

them.

- What is the thing you like most of the excursion to the MAGBA? I didn't go to the MAGBA, but the person who went told me that it was great!

- Did you like the project? Do you recommend it to other courses?

Of course! It was very funny. I recommend it to the other courses, because thus they know what is happening in the world and they collaborate in a cause (taking care

of the bees).

• Thalassa Suma helps many associations and in this case it helped the sport in the BH 2015 Montgat race. It is not the first time they help this race. It helped to control the road, to check the clocks and that no racer was thirsty.

• This race took place on March 29th and there were two different distances: the first one that consisted of 5km and the second one 10km. The person who organized the race this year was Sergio del Rio.

74

Page 75: What's up 3rd issue

Interview to Sergio del Rio

• What was the experience of being the coach of this race like?

So great!! I’m proud to be one of them, an opportunity that I like sharing with the people from Montgat. This race is not for us but for the people who need it so the slogan of this race is "if you run, they win “. • What did the Thalassa Suma volunteers had

to do to help you? They had to control the road, check that the clocks didn’t stop, or that no one remained dehydrated. • Are you proud of this race? Honestly, this is one of the many races that I organize and I'm very happy to do what I do and how I do it for those who need it.
