DTI 2014 GIP kicks off The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) welcomed this year’s participants to the Government Internship Program (GIP) during the GIP Orientation Session held at the Board of Investments (BOI) Penthouse, Makati City on 1 April 2014. The Human Resource Development and Personnel Service (HRDPS) facilitated the said orientation which aimed to establish the participants’ awareness on and knowledge in working in a government setting and allow them to gain a macro view of the Department’s roles and functions. On behalf of Management Services Group (MSG) Undersecretary Nora K. Terrado, HRDPS Director-in-Charge Joel R. Cruz gave the welcome remarks, where he encouraged the trainees to take advantage of the program to learn about DTI, work in a corporate environment, and enjoy the GIP experience.

HRDPS Director-in-Charge Joel R. Cruz welcomes this year’s GIP trainees with words of encouragement during the GIP Session Orientation held at the Board of Investments (BOI) Penthouse on 1 April 2014. The GIP was established through Executive Order (E.O.) No. 395 issued in February 1990 as a component of the President’s Summer Youth Program (PSYP). The Civil Service Commission (CSC) also recognized it through Memorandum Circular 07, Series of 1990 where it acknowledged the youth’s vital role in nation-building as provided for in the Constitution.

GIP has been implemented to initiate the youth to public service thus serving as a recruitment mechanism for potential public employees and providing financial assistance to the trainees. E.O. No. 139 issued on 28 November 1993 also encouraged students and the youth to engage in constructive and productive activities through Kabataan 2000: The President’s Youth Work Program (PYWP). Aside from the financial assistance, GIP also provides participants training for their professional and personal development, which the Department wishes to impart to its trainees. Trainees shall receive a certificate of completion provided they complete at least one and a half months of training service. GIP participants will render their internship in various offices in DTI Main and its attached agency, the Construction Industry Authority of the Philippines (CIAP). The program will run for two months, with a Graduation Ceremony on 31 May 2014. (a) Office of Operational Planning-Plans Formulation and Monitoring (OOP-PFM) Division Chief Irish G.
