Who does Zoë coach?

Who? Everyone can benefit from coaching Coaching in the work place has tended to be used by senior

managers and directors Businesses now realise there are benefits in coaching all levels

of management I work primarily with business owners, directors and managers

Is coaching just for ‘problems’? No! High achievers benefit from coaching and not only when they

need something ‘fixed’ Everyone wants to move up to the ‘next level’ in some aspect

of their work, or life The people I work with want to…

achieve goals faster and better

What are the benefits of coaching?

My clients report a wide variety of tangible and intangible benefits. In addition to achieving goals faster/better, other common themes include: Increase in motivation and energy Expanded leadership qualities and presence Better relationships and influence with others Clarity, focus and sense of purpose Increased resourcefulness and resilience Deeper self-awareness

Clients often find there is a powerful synergistic effect through coaching. The increased energy and motivation gained, combined with achieving the client’s initial goals generates:

greater effectiveness and impact

The benefits of coaching – Cont’d

The initial coaching goals set by my clients are usually work related, but benefits often spill across a client’s whole life, providing both:

fulfilling professional and personal growth

For an organisation, the range of benefits is equally valuable. Additional organisational benefits include:

Refocus on priorities

Retention and development of key talent

More innovative thinking

What is Zoë's approach to coaching?

Initially I enable individuals to break out of ‘closed loop’ thinking:

Individuals think in circles – high achievers may have large circles, but they are ‘closed loops’

People in the same organisation often think in similar closed loops

These are reinforced by: Assumptions we make, (which we all do to simplify our complex worlds) Self-limiting beliefs, (which we all have)

I use a variety of tools to break out of the thinking circle, but without judging my client:

Challenging and insightful questions Listening beyond and behind the responses Independent and non-judgmental observation, with only the client’s agenda at

heart Models from NLP*, TA** and other disciplines, to process complex situations

*Neuro Linguistic Programming - A communication model of behaviour based on human channels of perceiving, and processing information.**Transactional Analysis – A theory of personality, used for personal growth and change

What happens next? With the clients goals in mind, I support the client to

generate:

new thinking, new options and new behaviours

I continue to work with a client as long as required through implementation

Keeping progress on track Breaking challenges down to bite size chunks Re-evaluating when progress falters

Is coaching cost effective?

Coaching is tailored entirely to an individual’s needs and context and is often judged to be highly cost effective

An International Coach Federation survey (2009) of over 2,000 coaching clients from 64 countries reported that individuals who have worked with a coach experience positive change in the following areas: self esteem/self confidence; relationships; communication skills; interpersonal

skills; work performance; work/life balance; wellness; career opportunities; personal organisation; business management; time management; team effectiveness; corporate culture; financial organisation; and investment planning.

Almost all (96%) clients indicated that they would repeat the coaching experience given the same circumstances

Although not all types of coaching lead to measurable financial gain, the survey suggested: a client who achieves a financial benefit from coaching can typically expect an

ROI in the range of 344% or 3.44 times the amount spent. The median company return is 700% indicating that typically a company can expect a return of 7 times the initial investment.

How much does coaching with Zoë cost?

Given that coaching is tailored entirely to individual circumstances, it is not possible to quote standard rates here.

Contact Zoë to discuss your needs and explore costs (see next page)

When considering costs, it is worth remembering: The cost may be less than you think – there’s no harm in

finding out more information Depending on your goals, a lot can be achieved through a

small amount of coaching, sometimes even in just one hour Consider the value to you of achieving your goals, is that

worth some investment?

What kind of things do people bring to coaching?

People bring a huge variety of topics to coaching. They are often complicated situations, with more than one aspect requiring attention. Here are some of the topics Zoë has worked on recently, but there are many other situations which can also benefit from coaching: Increased leadership responsibilities Growing a business Feeling demotivated or overwhelmed Taking on a new role Restructuring an organisation Handling difficult relationships Work/life balance Time management Increasing the effectiveness of a low performing team Clarifying long term business and life goals and the path to get there Deciding on whether to go for a new job, what job and how to get it Feeling ‘stuck’ on a project

If you are unsure whether a topic can be worked on successfully through coaching, just ask. A free, no obligation, first discussion can always be arranged to consider individual circumstances.

How does coaching differ from training, consultancy, mentoring, counseling?

There are some similarities between these disciplines, they can be considered on a spectrum:

Training Consultancy Mentoring Coaching Counseling Therapy

Differences vs training: Training is best for transfer of knowledge and certain skills, whereas coaching will help the client find

their own solutions Training is rarely tailored to specific individuals, nor does it usually cover implementation

Differences vs consultancy: Consultants are focused on the organisation, with expert advice on business problems Coaching works with an individual’s agenda* through a co-creative process, involving the client 100%,

with both tangible (eg. targets met) and intangible results (eg. self-awareness) Differences vs mentoring:

Mentors are usually more experienced individuals within the same organisation, who combine advice giving with support

An external coach has the independence and training to generate a non-judgmental atmosphere, wholly focused on the client’s interests, to break out of ‘closed loop’ thinking

Differences vs counseling and therapy: These are focused on the past and coming to terms with it, or understanding the root causes of long-

standing problems Coaching may touch on the past, but not dwell on it and will be more forward focused and action

oriented.

* sometimes an organisation/line manager will also be a key stakeholder

Page 14: What Can Coaching Do For You

What is the coaching process like with Zoë?

I coach primarily on a one-to-one basis, starting face-to-face Subsequent sessions can be face-to-face, or via phone or Skype

Often begins with a short ‘chemistry’ meeting to: Agree the outline objectives for coaching (other stake-holders will also

be consulted if required, eg. HR, line manager) Ensure a natural rapport and trust can build

At it’s simplest I will follow a three stage process:1. Raise awareness through powerful questioning and other coaching

techniques to clarify goals, challenge assumptions and spot self-limiting beliefs

2. Based on the understanding created in stage 1, define an action plan 3. Support implementation and build on the learnings

How often, how long? The process is tailored entirely to the individual, but typically:

First main session is 1½-3 hours Subsequent sessions 45 mins-2 hours, every 2-4 weeks Either a program of 2-8 sessions is agreed in advance, or an ongoing

relationship

How do I choose the right coach for me?

The single most important thing about choosing a coach is finding someone you are comfortable to be completely open and honest with. In an initial ‘chemistry meeting’ with a prospective coach you can ask yourself these questions:

Do I trust him/her, do I feel safe? Can I tell him/her anything without feeling judged?

Do I feel we’re connecting and does he/she seem to have an excitement and energy around my goals?

Can she/he capture and summarise accurately what I’m trying to say?

Do I respect this person and feel interested in spending more time with them?

Will they be able to challenge me to think differently?

How do I choose the right coach for me – Cont’d?

It is worth checking the following details with your prospective coach: (Zoë’s credentials in brackets) Have they trained on an accredited coaching course (yes, with Coaching

Development, accredited by the International Coach Federation (ICF)) Are they a member of a professional body and do they follow a strict

professional code of conduct (yes, member of ICF, the largest professional coaching body in the world, and follow their full code of ethics)

Do they receive coaching themselves and do they have a Coach Supervisor, to ensure their coaching remains at the forefront of best practice (yes, I use coaching myself monthly and regularly work with a coach supervisor)

Depending on what area you wish to be coached on, it may be important for you to check your coaches’ background and experience, although a good coach does not necessarily need knowledge of your business, or particular issues to be able to coach effectively (for more information about Zoë’s background and experience, see the next two pages)

What do people say about coaching with Zoë?

“Zoë is excellent to work with. I had no idea how helpful [coaching] would be. One issue my management team has been putting off for months was planned out and put well on the road to a solution within one session. After each session I always come out feeling more positive about life and not necessarily just about the issue we were working through. Zoë was also very good at pushing me to confront and make difficult decisions and finding a way of approaching them that made them feel far less difficult. I would recommend Zoë as a coach.” Owen Lee, Creative Director, Farm (Advertising)

“I found Zoë thoughtful, intelligent and empathetic. I quickly felt comfortable and able to open up to her. [Working with Zoë] has really helped focus what had being going round and round in my head for a long time. [She added] a massive amount of value to help clarify my thoughts. I would definitely recommend Zoë as a coach.” Emma Brock, Head of Client Services, Coley Porter Bell (Branding)

“I have definitely benefited from being coached by Zoë. I have gained a greater self-awareness

and understanding of my attitudes and behaviours, which has enhanced my communication skills and made for better relationships. I now feel I have an inner self-confidence and a more positive approach to life. She listened intently, asking thought provoking questions and summarizing the key points of the conversation, to allow me to create a clear way forward. At the end of end of each session goals and targets were agreed with the use of email feedback to drive outcomes. Top Qualities: Great Results, Personable, High Integrity. I would recommend Zoë without doubt.” M J Fice, Former Chemist with GlaxoSmithKline (20 years), (Pharmaceuticals)

Other FAQ’s

What will Zoë expect from me, as a client? To get the most out of coaching you need to:

Be willing to accept responsibility for your life and the decisions you make Ready to invest time and effort in yourself and the work required Communicate honestly Be open to challenges and non-judgmental feedback Be willing to try new things Be open about anything that is of concern at any time, including the

coaching

Why is coaching better than reading a self help book? Books can go a long way to helping us make the most of our lives

As a coach I can do more than a book because I am trained to find and ask the key questions you’re not asking yourself, spot the assumptions you’re not aware you’re making and identify and challenge your self-limiting beliefs.

I can actively engage you to clarify your goals and work with you to ensure you have the confidence, plans and skills to achieve them. As you work towards them I can continue to support you, give you honest feedback and work with you to find ways round setbacks and to renew your energy.
